Congratulations....you look wonderful in your little picture....it sounds like you are getting plenty of exercise with your sons....I miss those days of the sport practices...maybe just park further away at the store or work...instead of thinking of a half hours...break it down into 3 segments of walking....when at practice don't watch but walk around...you are doing beautifully. All the best to you.

Should I go through with it?
Bklyn Lady replied to Sarah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Okay...it seems like you are on the right path and when you are ready to make the decision you won't be second guessing yourself. I'm 57 so I did it for health reasons too but considering I'm 3 days out from surgery I can't complain too much. It seems that people who have had diabetes end up completely without it or on a very low dose of medicine. I get your self deprecating humor but I have a daughter a little older than you and I always try to stop her from putting down herself. It must be some old lady mother thing that I do. Have a good weekend. Stella -
Should I go through with it?
Bklyn Lady replied to Sarah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Big Thighs: First I would like you to change your moniker. You are way more than a young girl with big thighs. Before you think of surgery you have to get your head straight. I was just sleeved on Tuesday and it is a tough experience once you get home. Having uncontrolled diabetes is really bad. What does you diabetes doctor say about the surgery? I am sure you will get answers from people who really are vets of the sleeve that can help you more. I can tell from what you wrote you are a smart, thoughtful girl who should have and deserves a healthy. Let's see what information comes in. I had a brother who would periodically control diabetes 2 and he ended up blind in one eye when he was still in his 40's. We don't want anything like that happening to you. Stella -
Swany I'm sorry for not responding sooner but I'm just seeing your message today June 10th. I'm getting sleeved at Lenox Hill by Dr. Roslin who I think also does surgeries in White Plains. I'm getting sleeved on June 15th. I'm pretty nervous and he doesn't require anything other than all liquids the day before. I see a lot of people doing liquids only for weeks before surgery. I hope my liver will be acceptable LOL. I wil check back at CP which I went today just for the heck of it and there was your message. Best of luck.

Two Weeks Since Surgery
Bklyn Lady replied to txrdnk903's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Phat Curves glad to hear from you. I was getting a little worried. Take it easy on yourself. You are doing good. Your stomach is still healing so take it east. I get sleeved next week and my doctor's orders are liquids for 3 weeks after surgery. I know every dr. is different but I'm just trying to make the point of don't overburden you new stomach. Keep posting and feel better and stronger. Stella -
The stomach of a squirrel... or maybe a groundhog
Bklyn Lady replied to steve-o's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Steve O --- I was looking for you in members than saw your post. Hope you are feeling a little bit better everyday. Just think of all the people who say they are practically back to normal in a week. You'll be one of them. Feel better little squirrel guts. (really, post when you can, good luck.) Bklyn -
Yes, I have the same insurance....my doctor did write a letter but the insurance company had already approved me before they received his letter....I had co morbidites, i.e, hypertension, documented sleep apnea, BMI 41...it's not that I went for a physical every year but they would weigh me even if I went in for a sinus infection, so they did have enough years of weights....you might too. Best of luck.

SteveO: Thank you for the compliment. I see you are due to get sleeved on the third. Good luck and keep the faith. I have no words of wisdom to offer as I don't get sleeved until June 15th. Let us know how you are doing. Wishing you all the best. Stella -
I'm in Freaking hell
Bklyn Lady replied to Phatcurves's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Phat Curves.....most of your posts have been about your boyfriend being a jerk....why are you still with him.....why in good God's name did you book a getaway so soon....you know what he is like. You're going to have to grow a pair of ovaries, woman up and dump him. This has been toxic for so long and you are as much a part of it as he is. I think if you could get some support from your mom and get on your own for the next six months or something you'll have a chance. I feel you are sabotaging yourself with this guy. I don't mean to be a bitch here, but you are are a young, beautiful girl, who needs to start going in the right direction. Time stands still for no man. Good luck. YOU CAN DO THIS FOR REAL. Stella -

What to tell people?
Bklyn Lady replied to SParkle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
oh, be a little delicate flower, "my tummy is acting up, I don't why....just a little soup for me".....one thing I've said on these boards is that it's not up to us to educate the public about WLS.....I personally think it's best to live under the radar with this as long as you can.....I think we all would have liked it if the first time we gained 12 or 20 pounds we took it off on a diet but that didn't happen for reasons too complex to go into here.....why do we have to tell the world about something so personal that we are doing for ourselves......way down the road you want to tell the cooks, friends go ahead, but right now protect yourself. You[re not lying....you're just not blabbering. Good luck. -

Hi Mary: I started the process March 26...you know all the steps i.e. psyche eval, consult, upper endo....letter from GP (which took weeks for his office to do)....I know what you mean about feeling like you can pop with anticipation...I feel like my life has been on hold from March 26 until today(which really isn't that long in reality)....I hope things go well for you....it will be nice to get this done and on the road to good health....take care. -

don't worry...the weekends are crazy..I was afraid I seemed like a fat cry baby...I have Oxford United Healthcare which is very good about the VSG...Mary did finally call and said she submitted the papers without the letter from my GP stating the weights...so we'll see what happens....I said I would wait to hear from her but I'll call her this Friday...give her a week to hear back from insurance... you are doing good with only being sleeved in March...how are you feeling? -

Hi Angie: What a good mom you are. I bet the hardest part for you will be having left the kids. In no time you will be back home and in a few weeks you'll be doing stuff with them that you hadn't thought possible. I can't wait for you to post again. Best to your Mom too. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY. You are doing this for your family. I hope you can eat something good today too lol....God Bless. Bklyn Lady -

Hi: thanks for responding. Dr. Roslin is my surgeon and if on the day of surgery they tell me it has to be Yatco or Shah I would be fine. My problem is the coordinator....she's really nice but I've called everyday this week trying to make sure they received everything...she finally spoke to me today, promised she would call me right back so I said I'll wait here for your call ...I won't leave the house...needless to say she never called back. I don't want to be a pain but I need to know that they are all set to present to my insurance which is one of the good insurance co. they cover the sleeve....who was you surgical coordinator....I hate to be complaining but I jumped through hoops to get everything done right away....now I can't get even an answer. How long ago did you get sleeved or rny? How are you feeling? I must say when I had the upper endo and when I'm at their office everyone is really nice. Thank you for responding and hope you are doing well. Do you go to the support group meetings? -

Hi all: I haven't gotten my surgery date yet but I plan on telling no one about it except my kids and husband. When I am thin I will tell friends how I did it: by eating very little and exercising which will be the truth. If there was someone that I think would benefit I would tell them about the WLS but too many people just want to give their uneducated two cents and are often upset of people who move along in their lives. Let the medical profession educate the public. We just have to take care of ourselves and not get stressed. I think if we had the support we dream of maybe we wouldn't have gotten so fat to begin with. Now it's up to us to get rid of the "haters" and enjoy life for us. With the hells we have all been through we don't owe any explainations.
