    The fittest city

OK, you two are bad (Laura-Ven and zenandnow) and now I'm gonna jump in. I saw a woman this morning whose lips looked like she kissed a blowfish. Went great with that elfin eye look you get from pulling the skin too tight behind the ears. Butter: We also have great farmers markets. There is one almost every day somewhere in the valley during the summer. The one in Mt. View is the best I've been to. Lynda

We're all rooting for you! Lynda
  5. No. It's not common. Are you taking an acid reducer, such as Prilosec? Call you Dr. And discuss. Have a food log ready since they probably will ask what you've bee eating. Lynda

    Outpatient VS Inpatient?

Yes, sorry about that! Your post said "and a few hours going home" so I thought you lived a few hours away. I get it now. You will go home a few hours after the surgery. 20 minutes is good. Lynda

    Lesson learned!

Agree with Fiddleman. I had to skip stone fruit season the first year I was sleeved. But by the next time the season rolled around, I could indulge without getting sick. Lynda

    Bread

I have to admit - tortillas are one thing I still don't eat much of at over two years out. I can eat tortilla chips, but the flour tortilla - I swear I can feel it swelling as soon as a take a couple of bites. I can eat 1 small corn tortilla. Lynda

What did you eat today :) ?

Maintenance mode. Weight: 133.6 (think that was a fluke; it was 136.5 yesterday) B: 2 oz. 98% FF ham, then about an hour later 1/4 c. oats with 1/2 peach and 1/2 c. soy milk, drank another 1/2 c. soy milk before eating oats. L: 3 oz. lean ground beef, 2 hawaiian rolls, 1.5 T. mayonnaise (I cut the rolls into thirds and make three sliders), salad of 1/3 c. lettuce, 1/4 avocado, 5 cherry tomatoes, 1/4 c. cucumber, green onion, and 2 T. light ranch dressing D: Turkey pot pie (1/8 of a pie crust, 2 oz. turkey, 1/3 c. corn, carrots, peas, and onions, 1/6 can cream of chicken soup, 2 T. milk S: 1/4 mango, 30 grams Special K chocolate cereal
  11. Better get the bribe ready or look for a long handled poop scoop. Everyone heals differently but it was at least a week before I could pick something up from the ground. Lynda

    Is anyone else cold?

Boy at over two years out I still remember how cold I was. I was sleeved on mid-may and I ran the heater, bundled up and used the gas fireplace. No one would stay in a room with me long because they started roasting! One good trick is to put your blanket in the dryer for a few minutes then quickly bundle up. I drank a lot of calorie free Hot drinks too. It does go away eventually. Lynda

    Weather and hunger

Oh, Protein bars - those are the devil's food! I won't even bring them in the house after reading how many people have problems stopping at just one! That's the same reason I don't bother making low cal Cookies, etc. Who cares if they are low cal if I eat the whole batch! Glad the sun is shining on you. And yes, you do look good in that blue shirt! Lynda

Sorry for the stall. It will pass! Lynda

    Frustrated

What kind of Protein are using? You may have lactose intolerance (very common post-op and usually goes away in a few months). Try the unjury chicken protein powder. It was the only thing I could tolerate at first. Lynda
  16. I second what everyone else has told you. I used a clock and took super tiny sips all the time, with the goal of drinking 1 oz. every 15 minutes while I was awake. I drank from a shot glass and used a 1 cup liquid measuring cup like a pitcher. I drank everything room temp at first, but everyone is different. Another thing I liked very early out is Sleepy Time Tea. Lynda

    Need Ideas! :)

You could give her an Auntie cup as one of her birthday presents. Then share the sonogram with your folks and whoever. Love Laura's idea too if you want to tell your parents first. Lynda

    Fiber one cereal

If you can tolerate it, and it doesn't cause cravings, I say yes. I eat cereal now. Generally oatmeal (1/4 cup raw mixed with 1/2 cup Water and a little soy milk), and sometimes other Breakfast cereals such as Cheerios, Kashi Puffs, or Shredded Wheat. I just bought some Special K chocolate to try for when I want something sweet in the evening. Try a small serving (maybe 1/2 a regular serving) and see how it sits. Lynda
  19. You might get more replies in the PRE-Operation Gastric Sleeve Surgery (VSG) Questions & Answers or food & Nutrition forums. Your question was posted in Gastric Sleeve Surgery (VSG) Success Stories. At four weeks, the surgery is still healing. Eating foods or quantities not on your program increases the risk of surgical failure, such as a leak. Each Dr. sets a program based on their experience, how they cut the sleeve, the aftercare program they are using (which, in my opinion, is why many Dr.s in Mexico have a more stringent plan following surgery - you probably aren't going back for after care). In addition, most people can't eat much in the first months post-op. Choosing nutritionally void foods doesn't leave room for the important nutrients provided by food on the post-op plan. I would consider counseling to help learn to deal with cravings. At some point, the sleeve can only take us so far. Best wishes on your journey, Lynda

    Bread

My program guide mentioned that a lot of people had a problem with bread for the first months post op. At two months out, I couldn't eat bread. It made me feel terrible. Later, I was able to eat a few bites of crust and now I can easily eat bread and it might be a slider (haven't eaten enough to find out). Other than the fact it might not set well, it's not a good nutrition source at 8 weeks. You should be concentrating on Protein and if you are eating protein at each meal, you probably won't have room for any bread. Just my two cents: YMMV. Lynda

    The fittest city

BTW, These cities were selected based on personal health habits, community resources and access to health care. Residents in cities with the highest rankings tended to have higher levels of physical activity and low rates of heart disease and diabetes. They also had more parks per capita as well as advanced state requirements for physical education classes. So we may have a lot of fatties, but we are healthier fatties! Here's the original article, where I found the details above: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/05/30/fittest-u-s-cities-of-2013/#ixzz2ax7JE8IC Lynda

    saved by the pickle

Hmh. I wonder if this is why pregnant women crave dill pickles? <off topic> Personally, I craved watermelon. My poor ex had to try and find some for me in the middle of winter. And that was back in the days when you couldn't find a watermelon in the winter </off topic> Lynda

    Warning gross poo question

My doctor said that runny poo was normal, but going 6 times per day was not. They had me back my diet down to herbal tea, Water, and unjury chicken Protein and I got it down to a max of 4 per day, with an average of 2. The lactose in other foods was bothering me. Lynda
