  1. Lisa, We're going to call you the incredible shrinking woman after they get your meds straightened out! Lynda
  2. Yeah, I love good bread too. So much so that at first, before I could tolerate the soft part, I would eat the crust only. You just have to find the strategy that works for you. For me, I do not bring good bread into the house unless it's a special occasion and I think there will be enough people there to finish it at the meal. I eat it at restaurants but now that I can also drink I usually am busy having a cocktail before dinner then one slice of bread then dinner. Lynda
  3. I am more than two years out and my capacity slowly increased over the first year. Also my ability to tolerate certain foods increased over the first year and half. I strongly recommend weighing and measuring your food as capacity increases. I would not eat more than 3-4 oz.s of Protein per meal, even if I could fit it in. I generally eat two ounces of protein at Breakfast and lunch and three ounces of protein at dinner. Combined with the protein I get from dairy and other foods that meets my protein requirements for the day. And eating that amount of protein, combined with non starchy veggies and whole grains, keeps me filling full. Lynda

    Kaiser question

I'm guessing you have Kaiser SoCal because Kaiser NorCal doesn't have Options classes. If you don't get an answer, search for Kaiser So Cal or Kaiser in whatever city you are using. LIke Kaiser Harbor City. Lynda

When you first got to maintenance

Everyone is different. I am small chested and small boned. In my early twenties, my top weight was 124, but in my 30s weight crept up and up till in my 40s I could not get under 200. Highest weight was 260 something. One of the keys if you want to continue losing is to find the low calorie, nutritious foods that are satisfying to you. For me, that includes lean meats, non starchy veggies, and non-fat dairy. For instance, tonight dinner was about 1/2 Tbs. olive oil, summer squash, eggplant, onion, and red bell pepper sauteed with 3 oz. lean ground beef. I threw in a little basil right at the end. Very filling and satisfying. I want something sweet tonight so I will have some very low calorie fruit drink before bed. I have to hit the need for crunchy, savory, and sweet. Also, I walk at least an hour at least 4 days per week in maintenance. During the losing phase, I walked and did strength training exercise classes 2-3 days per week or worked with a trainer. Lynda

    What's for lunch?

Lazy and quick lunch: 2 slices low fat ham around a low fat cheese stick and about 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes and red pepper spears. No whole grain with lunch because about an hour before I had an ounce of pop chips. Lynda

When you first got to maintenance

I added calories slowly till it balanced out. I also weigh myself every day and if I'm over my bounce range, I cut back on extras till I'm in the zone again. I've been at a goal for 19 months. I'm 57 years old, 5'6" and weigh between 135 and 137. Goal is 135. I have only dipped under goal a couple of times. Lynda
  9. Great looking muscle definition on that bicep! Can't wait to see the after pics. You already look great! Lynda

    Has the sweating stopped?

maybe not because for me the cold started right after surgery. It is better now, but I am still colder than most. Lynda

    Has the sweating stopped?

I'm 2.5 years out. I have a lot of cute sweatshirts, sweaters, gloves, scarves, hats and coats. I warm my blanket in the heater a few minutes if I'm really chilled. And I layer shirts. Without my 100+pundits natural warm suit I almost never sweat. Lynda

  13. Just want to chine in. I'm about 2.5 years out and 19 months at goal. I was scared too. When I woke up, I told the nurse, "it was successful, I'm still here!" It makes sense to be afraid, there are risks. But those have to be weighed against the risks if you don't get surgery. For me, not getting the surgery was riskier to my health. In the weeks before surgery, whenever it felt worried, I did things to help prepare for surgery and recovery like pre-paying bills, cleaning house, moving things so I didn't have to bend over to reach them, washing some smaller clothes I had saved, and stocking up on household staples like TP, laundry soap, etc. I also recorded movies and got books to read while recovering. 15. I posted Kaiser Fremont's plan on my blog a few months ago. I basically follow the preop diet with extra treats in maintenance mode. If my weight is to high to suit me, I cut out the treats. It's working for me so far. But I do walk at least an hour a say at least 4 days per week too.

    Tummy tuck today!

Hello six pack! You already look great and I can't wait to see the pics in a few weeks when you can stand up straight and the swelling is down. Lynda
  17. My doctor mentioned that in some cases, they do have to do the bypass if the GERD can't be controlled. And in some studies I have read, the issue doesn't crop up till later. Keeping my fingers crossed the increased meds work for you. I agree some part might be psych, but it's likely some physical issues as well. If the scope shows a stricture, I think it can be stretched. Or maybe a hiatial hernia has showed up and can be fixed. lynda

    Its almost winter!

This will be my third winter post-op. Some of my warm favs: sugar free hot cider mix Soy Latte (mix Starbucks instant decaf with hot soy milk) I still eat yogurt, but in the winter, I mix in pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice Soups, chili, and Beans Apple slices cooked down with a little splenda and spices (I put them in a fry pan with a little water) costco Roast chicken Laura, if you also eat meat with Breakfast does the hot Cereal stay with you better? I have to have some Protein at breakfast.
