Failing in the protein department
wondering1 replied to wondering1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys! I appreciate all of your responses. I think I will just concentrate on the fluids for a while. -
The tomato soup was especially yummy but I've moved on to better things now. Currently I'm eating greek yogurt, applesauce and drinking protein drinks. I have tried pureed chicken but it's not one of my favorites. I only had to be on liquids after surgery for 48 hours. Sooooo happy to be eating!

This is the first time I've tried some "food". So here's what I'm eating right now: 1/3 cup tomato Soup pureed with 2 tbsp medium salsa, then heated. On top I added 1/2 once finely shredded cheese (which is melting in the soup) and 1 tsp sour cream. Also added some ground pepper. I never thought I'd be so freaking happy to eat some generic condensed tomato soup but this is actually pretty good. Oh, and the soup is warm, not hot. Not sure I could do an extreme hot or cold yet. Just thought I'd share

Scared to start Soft Foods
wondering1 replied to CaliforniaJenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This might be a dumb question but are you eating yogurt? I find that it tastes good, is high in Protein and goes down pretty smoothly. If you are not already eating greek yogurt, I would try Yoplait Greek or Chobani. I like them both. Good luck! -
I can totally sympathize with your pain. I was in horrible pain for the first several days. I think it's the trauma that you've put your body through that's making you hurt so bad. We have to remember that this was major surgery and it will take your body 4-6 weeks to recover, de-swell, and calm down. Of course if you're worried, you should still talk to your surgeon. I feel for you though. Sending quick recovery prayers your way

Feeling a little better this evening. I've been walking on my treadmill for about 30 minutes a day and it does help. And those 30 minutes are split into three 10- minute sessions. I'm walking at a pace of 1.5. Tragic huh? Then I do walk outside to get some air and stuff but haven't been to the mall or anything. I'm eating every 3-4 hours too. I know I need to increase my fluids but I'm so sick of water. I bought some lemonade/tea mixers to add to the water but I'm not using them because I don't think they're caffeine free.

Yes the pain is ridiculous. Post op day 4 for me. Days 1-2 I was sure I was dying or having serious heart problems. Kept up with my pain meds like a champ. I've had 2 previous surgeries but wasn't prepared for this. I had a 7 day pre-op of full liquids only. I am 39. Hope this helps.

Day 2 after surgery
wondering1 replied to Forensikchic's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Tammi, Glad to hear you are doing well. I had a horrible first day post op. Pain and nausea got a little better yesterday so I was able to come home. I've been walking and sipping but my recovery seems to be going really SLOWLY. On the pain scale I'm at about a 6 with meds. Where are you on that scale? -
BIG secret... good or bad?
wondering1 replied to indy sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi. It's a big decision. I didn't tell my parents or my other family members. I didn't tell my pastor or anyone at chuch either. The only people that I told about my sleeve are my hubby and daughter. They are both very supportive. I just had my surgery Monday and told everyone else we were going on vacation for a few days. Good luck in whatever you decide. -
Food and Exercise Journals Required By Insurance
wondering1 replied to Bakomom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's really difficult to guess what they want. I suggest you contact your insurance company directly and ask them these specific questions. I used a food log typical of something you would find at a Weight Watchers meeting but yours might be totally different. Good luck -
9 Hours until I arrive at the hospital

Ok, I know you see this all the time but please someone talk me down from my ledge. I've really been great and calm all day. Now I'm going through all the scary feelings. Please, please, send prayers and positive thoughts my way. I promise to update when I'm out of surgery. -

9 Hours until I arrive at the hospital
wondering1 replied to wondering1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just got home a few hours ago. My chest pain was so unreal yesterday that the did 3 EKG's and labs every few hours. My heart rate would not stay above 50. Then I was sent for a lung scan which wasn't fun. They never found anything wrong though and the pain is much less today. I am home now living on Propels and SF popscicles. Still hurting. I guess even after all the information I had, I was still not prepared for how bad I was going to feel. Thanks again everyone! You guys are the best! -

Today is the last day of my pre-op diet and I'm a little concerned. The first few days I lost 7 lbs. Since Day 4, I haven't lost one bit! Not even 1/2 a pound. I haven't been eating, I've been following the Optifast program getting almost 800 calories per day. Why am I not losing weight? Believe me I am hungry but not giving in to any temptations because I want my liver to shrink and I don't want my surgery cancelled. Why haven't I lost any weight in the past few days? Thanks.

I'm an 11w and hope to get to a regular 10. Shoes would be so much easier to find at that size!!!!

Water and Food - Fighting for space?
wondering1 replied to Sotiredofit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre-op but I can tell you it's a LIFE TIME commitment. Since deciding to have the surgery it's been a commitment and it's not likely to change. Taking vitamins daily, monitoring your protein intake and fluids, restricting bad carbs, and exercising (I'm not talking about being a gym rat but at least doing more walking and being less sedintary than we are now). This will be every day for the rest of our lives if we want to work this sleeve to it's fullest. There are some people on this forum that have had their sleeves 2-3 years now and can eat pretty normally but the amount they report eating is far less than they ever used to. There are also some who have gained back 50lbs because they were not following their commitent. Please be sure you are ready for a life time commitment before going through with it. I waited two years to make sure me and my family were ready for all the changes. I mean, let's face it, this doesn't just involve me. Good luck -
I'm so excited that my surgery was moved up to Monday. It's only one day sooner but at least that means one more day of recovery before school starts Happy, happy, joy, joy. So today is day 5 of my Optifast and Saturday and Sunday will be Clear liquids only. Ugh. I would love to lick the hot sauce off some chicken wings right now... but I have to keep my eye on the prize (a thinner me!)
