It's so weird how different all of the doctors are. I only did 1 week preop liquids, but I see lots of people having to do 2 weeks. But e friend of mine only had to do 1 day. And everyones post op diets are different. That's what makes me wonder if I couldn't just have a couple of bites of a creamy soup. But I don't want to regret it, ya know? Were you able to tolerate purees without incident right after surgery?

I was banded yesterday. I am totally looking forward to adding in mushy stuff. What does your post op diet look like? I can't have Jello or creamy Soups until tomorrow. Then in likw 5 days I can add in oatmeal or cream of wheat or mashed potatoes. I want some creamy Soup right now so bad just to have something on my stomach. I see that some people are allowed to have that stuff right off the bat. Why did your friend have to have the band removed?

So I'm on my 7 day pre-op diet (day 6) and over the nearly 6 days I've had 2 tbsp of peanut butter tha tI wasn't allowed to have, one egg white, and 2 bites of a (little) Totino's pizza. IN SIX DAYS. I know it was naughty, but I confessed to someone (who doesn't struggle with weight and knows nothing about the lap band), and she is totally reaming me as if I'm going to die on the operating table. I shouldn't be paranoid, should I? I'm down 7 lbs in 6 days and feel like I can do ANYTHING in the world after the will power it has taken to stick to this horrible liquid diet.

LapBand recovery with a toddler

I'm having my surgery tomorrow and I'm a stay at home mom to two 2 year olds and an 8 month old so I will let you know my experience. My husbad is taking a week off, but after that I'm on my own! -
I've been SO excited to have this done. I've got all my plans in place for the kids, snacks and clothes packed for the babysitter. INstructions left, husband is off work for a week, and I've lost 8 lbs on my preop diet (7 days). All of a sudden I kind of feel like I'm in panic mode. Someone talk me off the ledge!

Surgery date is set....4 days into preop diet
missjoli replied to Chelle RN's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I just finished day 2 of my preop diet and I don't get ANY meals and only 2 shakes a day. I'm STARVING STARVING STARVING. How am I going to make it another 5 days???? Ugh. Anyway, my surgery is Wednesday and I am SO excited. Good luck! -
I can have 2 protein-ish drinks a day (atkins, slimfast, etc). I've already had one so I'm trying to wait on the other one. I can also have 2 c. raw beggies and 1 small fruit. I had the fruit at breakfast so I'm trying to space things out a little. I wonder why all of the surgeons do things differently? They had a group of 6 of us doing the preop bloodwork and testing and told us all the same thing (regardless of current weight). So I guess that has nothing to do with it? I don't know, but it's torture already. And knowing that some only have to do 1 day (or none at all) makes it worse! Although I see that some have 2 whole weeks of it. Yikes. I'm excited to see the scale go down so I need to keep reminding myself of that. Oh well, off to meet with the surgeon for the last time before surgery next week! Thanks for the reply.

I am a stay at home mom with 3 kids under 3. I have 7 days of torture...I mean liquid pre-op diet and today is only day 1. I'm allowed to have as many sugar free popsicles and jello as I want, but I can't eat it infront of the kids or they will beg and whine for some and eat my whole stash! Making them breakfast was no big deal this morning because I wasn't starving yet. I just made them a snack and I wanted to eat SO bad so I sent them in the other room to sit at their table so I could sneak a cup of jello. How do you guys do this? I want to eat popsicles and jellow like once an hour to keep my stomach from eating itself (well that's what it feels like anyway), but I can't!!!

Long term success and insurance question
missjoli posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've read and heard a lot of stories of people having to have the band removed after 4-6 years. I'm so concerned about getting the band, having great success, and then having to have it taken out. Is there any research out there? Where can I read more about this? Or is there anyone here that can offer any info? Thanks! Part 2: I have United Healthcare. I called them and they said if you have a BMI 40 or over then it's covered, and you just have to be sure and do some step prior to surgery (alert them?), but that there did not need to be any comorbidities or any other stipulations. They also informed me of my out of pocket max, where we stood with that, and so on. But the Surgeons office sent some sort of request for coverage and it came back that my insurance would need me to do 6 months of dieting under the care of a physician and have a psych (which I'm fine with). But if I'm being honest I was hoping to bypass the 6 month nonsense when I've been losing and gaining for 13 years. They said if I didn't have any documenation of diets over the last 2 years then I would need to do the 6 month thing. Well I've been pregnant and breastfeeding for nearly 4 years so I've really only seen my OBGYN. Anyway, the girl at the surgeons office said sometimes they can resubmit everythning once I've met with the surgeon (tomorrow), and they will approve it without all of the other nonsense. Has this happened to anyone? -
Hello all! I'm just starting my research into the lap band procedure and am attending a seminar at the end of the month. I will be 33 in July and have 3 children under 3. I have struggled with weight all of my life and am at my highest weight now (I'm guessing 260 but haven't been on a scale in 5 months since I gave birth to my daughter). Anyway, our insurance says "Not Applicable" under bariatric surgery. But there are some things listed as "Not covered." Does anyone have any experience with this or know if it's possible to get it covered when the insurance says "N/A" under coverage? I'm afraid to get my hopes up.

Thanks for your replies. I know the bariatric place where I'm going will handle insurance stuff, but maybe I'll do a little more digging before I go to the seminar. i'm just now learning that some companies make you see a dietician for 6 months and/or have other stipulations. Now I'm afraid this could get complicated. The research is overwhelming. Especially when I have next to no downtime (stay at home mom to 3 under 3). This forum looks very informative!
