    Public Smoking Bans

LMAO... All i know..is that when i moved to a state where its banned, i was finally able to quit, and my life got better. Oh...and god bless those losenges (commit) LOVE Those and i accredit them COMPLETELY with being able to have finally quit. I found myself addicted to them after cigarettes, then little birthday cakes after those (every thursday...if i made it another thursday, id go get another. did that for a few months). I hated the gum, welbutrin just put me to sleep. I will always vote in favor of banning it in any way (cigarrettes and smoking). Im sorry if it offends, you guys know i love yer smokey stinkin bottoms. You'll just have to extinguish your smokes at the border, and i'll even wash your clothes.... :scales: we can still be friends.

    My Doctors Philosophy on Fill

Bjlang, nope you are right...a ten cm band holds four ccs. I ran into the same thing. For the first month i thought i had a ten cc band, because i misheard, and only when i was having a conversation with my surgeon during this last fill did he correct me. I found im actually half way full when i thought we had lots and lots of ways to go.

    Public Smoking Bans

I think smoking cigarettes should be illegal. i think possession should carry the same penalty as possessing other illegal drugs. and yep i think you should spank those d@mn unruly kids too.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Suzanne, Hi. I have noticed mood SWINGS and my cycles have increased to two a month. I was going to say though, that sometimes when we go through a high energy or something that takes 100 percent, like WLS or for me as well, an art exhibition for an artist...there is at first a HIGH...then a leveling out...then a low...I go through this every time i show. I went through it a bit on this too, the lapband surgery process. When i got home i definitely fell into a funky low. Maybe its that? I dont know.

    Public Smoking Bans

i was pulling you a bit at the end there, and i hope its taken in fun. (even tho your hit to my mom was uncalled for) but im a great example how ex smokers are the loudest preachers. Im just grateful i have the wind to preach it and im glad to. IM VERY GLAD there is a ban in the entire state of maine from smoking in public. Its made the place a much better place to live.

    Public Smoking Bans

well.... I dont subscribe to your logic here was, and we usually see eye to eye about most things... but on this one i will agree to disagree with your logic here. I do agree with you that fingerwagging doesnt help a smoker quit. I dont care if smokers quit or not, i really dont..i addressed that...but if they think they are only hurting themselves, they are WRONG. as i was WRONG for 23 years. DEAD wrong, and my middle son paid the price. IF you smoke and your a NURSE....thats tragic. stop it.

    Public Smoking Bans

I smoked three packs a day for 19 years, and just a pack a day before that leading back to 23 years. In February 2006 i finally quit. My middle son had a stroke. He was 15. His stroke was in December of 2005 and it STILL took me till Feb to put out the last one. I live in Maine. Smoking IS banned everywhere in the state now and i say GOOD RIDDANCE! I dont care if smokers quit or not, but you CAN affect your household and all those in it with your smoke. DONT kid yourself that you arent. My middle son had NO other risk factors for his stroke other than my smoking around him all the time. ITS A MYTH that you have to hit "rock bottom' before you quit. You can just decide to, get as MUCH help as you can from any source (psych, patch, losenges, fake inhalers etc) and do whatever it takes to do it . (like we all did with the band to quit our eating habits) The first thing i noticed was my sense of smell came back within three months. I was sitting on the couch with my youngest son and smelled his hair, and it instantly reminded me of my brother when we were kids. The next thing that came back was my sense of taste, and i got to tell you, Grape juice and Peanut Butter on crackers is an AMAZING combination. The next thing that came back was my ability to finish a sentence without feeling winded...which allows me to preach about how horrible cigarettes are for you and how you are robbing yourself of some god given pleasures by continuing. Ill preach about this as long as i have clear crisp air to breathe to preach with, and in Maine, its all crisp air...hallelujah!

How Many Miles Can You Do?

Prior to surgery, i had not ridden a bike in twelve years. a week after surgery, i hopped on one and rode about a mile and a half...eventually i got to where i was waking up just before sunrise and riding the bike eight miles along the seawall to greet the sun. Now that im home i ride my bike back and forth to work, then in the evenings i sometimes take the long way home to just ride. I have a gym membership, and when im not "TOM"ing im there in the early mornings with thirty min on treadmill, thirty recumbent bike (diff than riding leasuirely outside) then thirty on the strength training machines three times a week. I could live w/out the gym membership, but i cant tell you how much i enjoy bike riding. Not competitive, not as a sport, but just to enjoy the outside.

    Food Crazies!

im right there with Lapdancer..my surgeon put me on a two week liquid diet to shrink my liver prior to surgery. I had heard and was concerned that if i couldnt get the liver down they would stop and not do the surgery. I wanted this so desperately badly. Heres the thing though....before this, i NEVER in a million years thought someone could survive for two weeks on a liquid diet...or even one week or even a few days. I was weak and didnt have alot of energy, but i did stuff anyway, and was absolutely suprised by how easy it was once i got my protien levels up. I go Back on liquids when my eating patterns get out of control. It feels good to know i can do it.

    confused about restriction

Okay..im hopeful. Its so GREAT to hear from other banded people that there is a 'sweet spot'. Ive wondered if it was going to be like this for the duration, but your responses sound like what my dr says, and im on the wagon of "hopeful" now. Im going to just keep on keepin on, and that next fill will come and im CERTAIN it will make a significant difference. so..okay. im not going to worry about it. im going to do what i can to keep from gaining. in three days i hit the gym again as part of a morning routine and im just going to keep on keepin on.

    February 2007 bandsters!

BabyGirl!, Thank you for looking and trying to help! it really does feel like you know where im coming from on this, and i totally feel that you are trying to help! i cant tell you how much i appreciate it. I cant say thank you enough for writing and trying. I have an artificial ankle, i take flax seed oil to keep it moving well, and surprisingly it works. (it also does amazing things for hair and nails too) While its very high in caloric content, its worth every bit of it. I never thought about dividing the shakes in half. days where i do the shakes are better all the way around calorie and carb wise than when i start out with a solid food Breakfast. I dont know why other than the head thing...If i tell myself "liquids only" i can stick to that...but if i dont it seems to be a free for all. (all or nothing) I will try cutting the shakes in half though, it sounds like a good idea...a GREAT idea really. the portions..i KNOW...thats what gets me. The Snacks are brought into my house by my sweet but enabling husband...and we are already in discussion about this. the portions are what im most concerned about though. I can eat a LOT of food at one time, BUT ...i do hear you.. My surgeon said the same thing, that Im "close" but not at the "sweet spot" yet. He does say that it exists. Im hopeful, and im back on liquids today to try to get my stomach back in control...and i will try cutting the lunch shake in half and see if that makes a difference. Prepackaged foods help too. I used to never buy them because i thought it was a waste of money instead of making it yourself...but its weighed out and measured and in the right portions. When i go back on solids, ill start out here first. I dig south beach diet meals, and lunchables. Thanks for writing to this babygirl. It feels like a friend who knows exactly what this is like, came and talked to me about it. I appreciate it very much.

    Sincere question for super sizers

well theres different levels. Regardless of where you perceive yourself, there are technical qualifications on the scale as to what a "super" obese vs a "morbid" obese level, and its simply a weight to height ratio. For me it was a suprise to find out id joined a club i didnt want to belong to in the first place. I havent ever had a problem asking for a seat extention while sitting in an airline seat, and only scraped the surface of facing purchasing two tickets to fly when i got banded. I can tell you THAT part was embarrassing and id wish it on no one i know. My father died at est 575 in 2005. His life was very difficult in the last bit and his decisions became desperate. Ive also known a woman who was around 400 who was active and led a very social and event filled life (to the point where i really envied her) I think it does vary a great deal from individual to individual.

    Low Iron Levels

ahem..! man...here here! since starting this...my cycles have increased to twice a month on average. My iron levels have dropped significantly (but mine have in the past too when ive ran into heavier cycles) so i take a ferrous sulphate (iron) supplement and roll with it. Ive heard that as you lose wieght, you have hormone deposits in your fat, as you lose it releases these hormones making it easier for you to become pregnant, and increasing your fertile cycles. i dont know if its hogwash or not, just what ive heard...and it makes sense.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Hi! thanks for the encouragement babyg, but its so strange...I had a 12 oz steak last night and four donuts this morning. I have a fifteen thousand dollar investment installed and im wondering why im able to eat this much when im half way filled? i know its a tool, i know head hunger...and yeah ill probably go on liquid diet tomorrow for a few days to try to get control of it again...but ! I shouldnt be able to eat this much eh?

    February 2007 bandsters!

i ate too much last night. i shouldnt be able to eat all this. i just had a second fill and im more than half way through. last night i ate a hotdog (just the frank) a FULL BOX of Dots at the theater (five servings) a sb chicken box thing a big full salad! and this was AFTER a full day of regular food, isopure shake for breakfast awith a cup of frozen strawberries, a cup of sausage and two eggs later for lunch... good lord.

    confused about restriction

im RIGHT HERE too. I JUST got my second fill and im carrying 2.5cc total in a band that only holds 4cc's. I feel NO real restriction and if i chew well i can eat about two cups of food at a sitting. Not sure what to make of it. I have been dieting, and keeping track of my food on fitday.com religiously until i went for second fill and im supposed to again...but i just thought it would be different. I KNOW excercise makes a huge difference with weight loss but when i read jachuts results i get a little jealous. Her journey has appeared very smooth, while others have been working out a bit, limiting intake and find they can still GAIN with the band. Its different for different people, and i understand that...but man sometimes its tough. I go back for next fill in seven weeks.

    I've gained 15 pounds

did ya try rebooting with a liquid diet? then plan your meals throw out all candy and start over? id try that, and if that didnt work, then yeah id call a therapist. They arent so bad. I had one for years before the band. Your insurance will likely pay a large portion of it. Good Luck!

    LB is pissing me off

Wheet!!! omg thats terrible!!! I come from a women who threw public fits and have turned it into an art. Its too tempting for me to do it. i try not to but this would have gotten me back in that store too, with full out single minded purpose: give me the discount or give me my money back and LOUDLY would i parade through the store as well as the mall what happened. False advertising and YOU DONT HAVE TO SHOP THERE. i like some of their styles too, but you really dont sister, and thats the candle i have to light your darkness. Ive used these guys and they are good. I buy a lot online, usually just before a show: www.ullapopkin.com www.laredoute.com (a favorite parisian shop) www.roamans.com (another favorite i use alot) check these guys out. I think you will find the quality and cost much much better than stinky old lane b's. and with them a sale is a sale.

    February 2007 bandsters!

Tres, are you sure? Thats what i THOUGHT i had, only to find that NO..i had a 10 CM band and that it only held 4cc's ... He said the 10cc band is the largest band they make, holding eleven cc's functionally. Im looking for open dialog about this, since it changes things dramaticly. I THOUGHT i had several more fills to go, turns out im more than halfway filled at 2.5cc's! Anyone else?

    February 2007 bandsters!

kelsy! ive done it too (went back to liquids for four days on my own) when my grazing got out of control. my Nutritionalist said it 'wasnt necessary' but was fine with it as long as like dooney said, keep up your vitamins, suppliments and protien levels. TO ME...i had to do it because i could no longer trust myself in a kitchen..as stupid as that sounds. I can handle something if there is a "start, middle and beginning" but open ended scares me a bit.

    February 2007 bandsters!

TRACY!!!! your BANDED!!! WOOOOO! its good to see you! i didnt know ours only held four cc. I have a total of 2.5 in mine. I notice restriction but its not like it was in the beginning, it doesnt hurt, or anything. I havent thrown up yet. ...at all. Doctor says thats a good thing initially restriction to me felt almost like pain, like thanksgiving day kind of full pain. theres none of that now. So Tracy... HOW R U DOING??? tell us all about it! Your all freshly banded and aglow....
