mandy J. replied to Hydun2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely understand! I'm on day 7 with 7 more to go! The Protein drinks are my lifesaver! When times start getting tough for me It's usually time for a shake, so it fills me up! I was off work yesterday, so I really had to be careful I did extra cleaning to occupy my time and mind! Good luck! -
The nutrtionist co-pays are gettin' expensive..
mandy J. replied to 14isabella's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say mine once. She is part of the package when I paid for the surgery. She works closely with the doctor that does the surgery, and only talks to me about food and preparation for the surgery, and life afterward! That's has to be diffucult dealing with her! Support for your decision would be nice!! -
Good luck! Can't wait to hear from you these next few days, and follow your weight loss!

Psychologist Insurance Coverage
mandy J. replied to Robert L.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on your insurance. Some companies do, and some do not require it. I don't think any physicians require psycology sessions. I think it is just an insurance thing. -
Yes. I had to get an EKG, and a chest x-ray.

I voted for you again today. Please keep us reminded everyday by posting this forum! I am a wife and a mother of two, so I can relate with your weight problem. I am 31 years old with two kids, I never struggled with weight until my son was born 14 years ago! I've been a nurse for 10 years and it's getting harder and harder for me at work! I got blessed with some money so now after years of waiting I am finally scheduled for May 25th! I never thought the day would come. I am so happy to do my 2 week pre-op diet I'm not complaining at all! I know you would feel blessed to. I am praying for this for you! -
Cost of Lap Band out of pocket
mandy J. replied to wannawearabikini's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes that is a good price! I'm paying almost 10,000 for mine in Dallas, TX. There are a lot of doctors in Dallas that do lapbands for 8,500 to 10,000. But I don't hear those low prices very often! -
26 Day Pre-OP?!?!?!
mandy J. replied to pinknsassyemt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't worry about losing too much weight. They have dropped the min. requirements for a lapband drastically! I've seen pple who only needed to loose 50lbs getting lapband. I read a different forum where one girl said her doctor told her not to even weigh he wasn't worried about the weight just shrinking the liver! As far as the amount of time I think it sounds crazy! Two weeks is plenty. I am 4'11 weight 160 and am only on a two week diet. I drink whey supreme shakes. They are a little bland so I add fruit like banannas or strawberries to mine. I am allowed healthy request soup, fruit, and veggies as long as I don't add sugar, butter, or oil to them. The Whey supreme is only 14 dollars at walmart for a huge jug of powder to mix with water. Of course it sounds like you may not have the option to get what you want! If you do I suggest the whey supreme the jug is 2 lbs. it has 27 shakes worth in it. Good luck! -
I totally understand how you feel! I chose not to tell anyone but my hubby and our two children! They are so excited that's all we talk about! I didn't feel like anyone else would understand or even worse they would be jelous! I have been a nurse for 10 years, and I can tell you the complications of being overweight for a long period of time for exceeds the possible complications of the lapband! I work in the Cardiac ICU! Nearly all the patients I take care of with major heart problems are obese! I've seen first hand what it can do to pple to be overweight! Most pple don't think about that they just want to dwell on the neg. of the surgery! You are making the right decision. Stay strong! It's your health and your future not theirs! The lapband is an opportunity of a lifetime. There are alot of pple who want it, and will never get it due to crappy insurance, not enought money etc. Those of us who are getting this chance are so lucky! I am excited for you!

Only on day 1 of pre-op diet and already hungry/bored...HELP!!
mandy J. replied to lee_nyc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use the vanilla whey protein shakes, and I put a bananna in mine. I'm not allowed any meals other than healthy request soup, and there are only 3 kinds to pick from. I was getting burned out, so I tried some different spices that the doctor said I could use, and it really helped. I've added a few drops of tabasco to my soup it changed the flavor, and really tasted good. My doctor said I could use it in moderation becouse it does have salt in it, but he said a few drops would be ok. Good luck! -

I have not tried the unjury yet, but I am using the whey supreme. I have the vanilla. I actually add a bannana to my shakes to help give them flavor. If you are buying shakes in a store be careful to compare the calories, sugars, etc. There were several whey supremes to choose from, but the others had double the calories, sugar, etc than the one I got. I've also had the strawberry it was good, but a little bland, so I cut up a couple of strawberries in it! I'm not sure what will be allowed on your pre-op diet. I am allowed unlimited fruit and veggies. There are several other things I can have like healthy request soup, sugar free popsicles, fat free yogurt, and fat free cottage cheese. As long as I don't add any sugar, oil, butter, or salt. Good luck!

My surgery is scheduled for May 25th. I am on a two week liquid diet too. My doctor's diet isn't as strict. I can have steamed veg. as long as there isn't any salt or butter on them. I can have oatmeal (without sugar or butter), and campbells healthy choice soup. I can also have sugar free popsicles, yogurt, and fruit.
