  3. The band is perfect for someone wanting a baby in the future. You will have to wait a year or two after getting banded to have a baby. They will leave the band in place, and unfill it while your preg. then after you have the baby they can start to refill it so you can loose your baby wt. I'm not sure about the nutrician visits. I only had one via phone, but I was private pay. Each insurance seems to be slightly different in what they require. The doctor like you to have the nutrician consults too, but the insurance will have a set number or visits or months on a diet. The phone consult helped me alot. She didn't try to talk me out if it which I am grateful! She did however give me good advice and tips for making it through the 2 week pre-op diet, as well as the diet for after the lapband! The doctor explained to me that it is a tool you will have the rest of your life, but it is easily removed if ever needed. I'm 72 hours post-op so I can't help you much with the amount of food that you'll be able to eat in the long run.
  4. It looks like you are doing great on wt loss! I am impressed with your numbers! I am only 2 days post-op and I'm still on clear liquids. I haven't really felt full, but I'm not hungry either. So I figure the band is doing something becouse before I wouldn;t have lasted a day on clear liquids! Good luck
  5. I am 2 days post-op. I've only slowed down becouse I don't want to mess up the band! The only pain I've had is gas pain. It just takes time for it to pass, but it will. I'm sore a little but not bad. I haven't even taken any pain medication. It's not that bad. Please keep in mind that the average wt. loss with the band according to the doctors in 4-8 pounds a month. It's not real quick, but in the long run each and every pound counts, and adds up! I will tell you that if you do research you will see that the band has a longer lasting sucess rate than the bypass does. If you get a bypass and overeat then overtime you will stretch the stomach back out, and it will be almost as if you never had it to begin with. The lapband is a tool you will have perm. if you mess up too much you can have a second chance by getting a fill! Please don't let a little pain scare you away from this surgery! Being overweight will cause you a lot of pain in the future that will last until you loose weight. The pain (which isn't much more than just soreness) will end soon after surgery then you can resume a normal life with less food, less weight, and more energy and better health!

    What to Tell'em

I didn't tell anyone but my husband and my two children ages 14, and 4. The four year old doesn't really understand, but of course my 14 year old does. They are so happy for me, and very supportive. I chose not to tell anyone else becouse they wouldn't be supportive or helpful if they knew what I was having done. I've told my co-workers, and friends that I had a hernia repair. I have to have help from my co-workers when I return to work (I am a nurse) I won't be able to do any lifting, and can't afford 6 weeks off work. I could be wrong and they may be supportive, but I dout it and don't want to take the chance! My friends and family the same thing. I needed them to help get my kids to school the day of surgery since my huspand was driving me we needed someone to help with them that morning. Again I could be wrong and they may would've supported me, but if they didn't support me and refused to help out what would I have done?!! I wasn't willing to take the chance! I may tell them later after I've lost a lot of weight! Plus my mom several years ago had gastric bypass, and within a couple of years gained most of her wt. back. She refuses to realize that the lapband is different than what she had done. She made several bad choices with foods , and amounts that resulted in stretching her stomach back out. If she would've went with the lapband she could've gotten a fill to get her back on track! Anyways not only did I need support, but also didn't feel like hearing neg. comments, or having to explain my decision to everyone who would've tried to talk me out of it!

    unhappy hubby

I agree he's probably just nervous about the procedure! I hope he comes around soon!
  9. I'm having the same problem. I was just banded yesterday am. I couldn't hardly sleep last night for the gas pains. I finally got up and sat on the couch to sleep. I can't seem to get it to move down at all. Any suggestions

    3 months post op...

I can understand the frustration you guys have! But looking at your ticker it looks like you've lost a lot already! I think it may be just your body catching up with the weight loss! Keep up the good work I am so impressed with your progress!

  12. I just had mine this morning. Make sure you take slip on shoes, leave your jewelry at home! I feel great a little sore, but no real pain. I haven't needed any pain medicine yet. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
  13. You are going to be so drousy after surgery, you are not going to car about a bra! Just leave it at home. You will only have socks on with your gown going to surgery. I took a pj set. I made sure the top was a button up one and then the matching pants with slip on shoes! The stretchy, loose button up top will come in handy! Sometimes they may let you go ahead and get dressed, but you will still have an Iv so it's easier with a button up top. They had me to get dressed then took me to radiology for a quick swallow study b4 I left the hospital. Not every doctor does this, but you may want to be prepared in case! Good luck. By the way I just had my lapband done today! I feel great other than the gas they blow you up with so they can see better! I'm sore, but not any real pain.
  14. I get banded at 7:30 this morning! I am so excited and at the same time full of worries! The main one being did I do enough on my pre-op diet? I need this to work out. I couldn't ever afford to pay for this again!

    why hide lapband?

I'm not telling anyone except my husband and my two children. The reasons are simple. I don't want to hear the negative talk, and I've years ago I mentioned I would love to have a lapband and I remember all too well how everyone went on and on about the risk, or they know someone who did it and gained their wt back a year or two later and so on. People confuse the lapband with gastric bypass, and won't try to understand that it's not a huge surgery with a scar from one end to the other with drains etc. But with that being said my main reason for not telling anyone I work with is that I work with several overweight pple, and they would love to have a lapband but can't afford it and insurance won't cover it. After surgery I am going to need help at work ( I am a nurse) and I know they would not be as helpful if they knew I had an elective surgery versus a surgery I had to have. Of course I think the lapband is medically ness. but they will not, and I need their support and help until I heal from this! I can't afford to be off work 6 weeks!!
  20. Thanks so much everyone!
  21. I ordered my unjury yesterday, and I'm wondering how long it will take to get it in? I ordered it from their website. Also what can I buy to use in the meantime that is good? I've been using whey supreme vanilla. I would rather have chocolate. Any suggestions?

Cast your vote today for Henrikka! It just takes a few seconds!
  23. My surgery is on the 25th, so I haven't had a lapband yet, but I have had other surgeries. You will do just fine! I do have a suggestion for you to think about. I bought some liquid tylenol. I'm not sure what your post-op orders will be, but mine says three days of Clear Liquids then 5 weeks of full liquids. I'm assuming I may need some tylenol in those first three days! Otherwise, I would say just have plenty of whatever your doctor wants you to drink/ eat those first few days, and comfortable clothes. Good luck
