    Body image changes after WLS

I see that you have some an amazing job getting to goal and below. I am 32 years old, 5'6" and at 244 right now with a goal of 125lbs so I am curious how long it took you to get to goal and below? What you eating and exercise regime was like for you to get down that low. I am hoping to have my surgery on January 17, 2010 so anything you can tell me to help me get to my goal I would greatly appreciate. Jennifer
  3. OMG. That is awesome to lose 30 pounds in 6 weeks. You should be super proud of yourself. Please don't let anyone tell u that have not done an amazing job. I haven't had my surgery yet but if I lose 30 pounds in 8 weeks then I will be over the moon happy. I think that every body loses that different rate because of starting weight, age and exercise levels. Just keep doing what u are doing and u will be great. Please stay positive. Jenn
  4. Yeah!! Yeah!! Yeah!! I got the call today with my date to see the surgeon for Thursday December 30th at 11:30am. I am having my surgery done with Kaiser in Bakersfield at San Joaquin Hospital with Dr. Irani. I will be getting my surgery day at this meeting so I am hoping to January 17th. I am doing the happy dance. Wish me luck. Thanks, Jenn
  5. Smiling from ear to ear... finally got a date to see the surgeon. Looks like I am going to be sleeved in January.

  6. I thought I was the only one who did that. Since my Kaiser Options classes ended on October 26 I have had similar dreams. In my dreams, I am eating less due to the sugery and exercising regularly. I am proud of all of my weight loss and I am actually happy on the inside because I am finally losing the weight and I know that if I continue to stick to the program that I will get to my goal of 145 or possible lower. It feels so real that when I wake up it hard to believe that it was just a dream. I know that it is more than a dream, I know its a real glimps of what my near reality will be with the help of the sleeve surgery and my determination to make it come true. I wish you all the best and I know we will have meet our goals with this sleeve as our foundation.
  7. I am in the same boat as you and I am afraid that my husband will be the same way after I have surgery as well. My husband is also over weight and thinks that I can lose the weight on my own. Our entire relationship has revolved around food and he thinks that we will not have any fun together and I will become a totally different person after surgery. I am trying to reassure him that we can still go out to dinner and hang out with friends and have a great time together. I am going to stay postive about my up coming changes and I pray that our relationship will be able to with stand and continue to grow after this surgery. I think your husband just needs time to adjust to you having the surgery and realize that you are still the same person that he loves and married. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Option Class Question

Congrats on getting into the Options program. No one in my track brought their spouse but I don't see why it would be a problem. Our classes were 90 minutes for 12 weeks and you had to come to every class but if you had to miss a class you could make it up later. They will not give you your authorization for the surgery until you have completed all 12 classes and turned in all of your logs and completed all of your labs and testing. I have learned that each location is different so it may not be the same as what I went through
  10. Congradulations. I'm so jealous because I am waiting for my authorization from Kaiser to go down to Pacific Bariatric for my 1 day appointment. I finish my Options classes on October 26th so I am hoping to have my surgery before the end of January.
  11. Welcome to the forum. 1. Classes ended last Tuesday October 26th in Bakersfield 2. Yes, we had to have all of our labs done before the classes ended. We had a schedule of when labs and tests needed to be completed. 3. We could choose any location but they told us since San Joaquin Hospital will be getting approved to take Kasier patients in the next few weeks. We would not get reimbursement for travel or lodging if we decided to pick another location. I picked Bakersfield first since its where I live but selected Pacific bariatric as my back up location. Since I just finish my classes last week, I am sure that I will not have my surgery until February or March. I am hoping sooner but I as long as I get it then I will be happy. Hopefully this info is helpful. Jen
  12. So tonight was the last of our Kaiser Options class and I am super happy. All I have to do it wait about a week or so to get the authorzation to meet the surgeon. I was hoping to get the sleeve done at Pacific Bariatric in San Diego but I was told the wait list is now 6 months. The instructor told our class that San Joaquin Hospital contract in Bakersfield should be approved soon so it looks like that's the hospital that I will be getting it done. Hopefully in the 2 months I should be having the surgery done. I will cross my fingers and hope for a January date.
  13. I had my class in Bakersfield and we got all of our labs and test done before the class ended. They told us we could pick but since San Joaquin Hospital is about to open soon in Bakersfield tha Kaiser will not reimburse you for travel or lodging if u choose a different hospital.
  14. I did my classes in Bakersfield. You should find out if you can have your surgery done here since the wait time should be less than Pacific Barriatric.
  15. Hello. Congradultions on the surgery and the weight loss. I am from Bakersfield also. I didn't know there were other posters from Bakersfield. I just finish my 12 Kaiser Options class so hopefully I will be having my surgery at San Joaquin Hospital in January. What insurance did u go throught?
  16. How long after the surgery can you start to eating cold cereal like Cheerios or Special K?
  17. I need some opinions and suggestions. I am currently in the options class and I have 4 classes left. When I started the class 8 weeks ago my BMI was only 37. I don't have any co-morbities and I am afraid that once I finish the classes I will not get the authorization to get the surgery. The nurse who teaches our class says that if I got into the options class and if I complete all of the requirements then I should get the authorization once the class is over. I am very worried and I have not lost any weight because I do not want my BMI to drop any lower. So I would like some opinions and answers about the following questions. Do you think I will get the authorization once the class is over? Should I be worried? Should I try to lose weight? All comments welcome.
  18. I heard that after the surgery you are not allowed to drink from a straw. Is it true? Please say it aint so.:biggrin0: I am a faithful straw drinker and I dont know how I am going to be able to break that habit.
