    Caffeine

NO carbonation what so ever!!! It stretches the pouch area!! I was told caffeine after a month out, but not to over do it. Moderation is the key. Please read up on carbonation !!
  3. I have to agree w/ some points. I've been waiting for 5 years and this is the closest I have gotten. My anxiety is through the roof as this is the closest I have gotten. I have doubt my life will change for the better, or that I will have no regrets. I think my fear comes from being denied....it might be my breaking point and then what?? I have several friends who have had this surgery and NOT one has ever regretted it! They are all 3-5 years out. You have to find the weight and balance that is best for you. I have read more than I ever have about any other subject. It has helped ease my mind, helped me choose which surgery was best for me, etc. Keep the faith, take note of all the positives that will come from it, and turn to those who are supportive of your decisions. We are all here for you!!

    No Complications

I'm having surgery this Oct. but I have had 4 friends have surgery in the past 4 years...not one of them had a single complication! I think that is why I don't really have any worries. One of them is a nurse and said she's never felt better!

Sex drive before and after surgery?

Often time medications do hinder sex drive....from anti-depressants to even some bc pills. Everyone's body reacts differently. Talk to your GNY or to your primary and see. I have a HIGH sex drive, but I do remeber when in the past I was on something that it was decreased greatly. Maybe try something more intimate (like massages, quiet nights alone talking, moonligh walking, etc ) and maybe that will help trigger the mood...sometimes it's the 'before' that can really set the mood. We are all very stressed, busy, etc and forget to slow down and 'feel' for ourselves.

    Spicy Food + No Water?

Yes, dairy is very helpful. I was thinking the same thing such as adding light sour cream or plain greek yougurt w/ a few spices in it to add flavor- but don't make it spciy. I'm Italian and eat VERY SPICY foods often so this will be a trick I will need to remember as well. The point of no liquids is so we don't 'overeat' as it ;flushes' our foods down and we are able to over eat. Maybe if you portion out your foods and take a few sips of milk it would help and then not eat anymore than your allotted portion. Also, as your NUT for suggestions as well.

    I'm afraid!

I have been researching both for 5 years...every MD's opinion is different. It depends sometimes on what they find in your upper GI scope. Some MD's prefer to not do the sleeve b/c you often needs more meds for reflux etc. Both surgeries are equal in evasiveness and come w/ own risks. I too, am/was planning the sleeve for this Oct and really didn't want to do the RNY, but when I looked at long term data, success rates, etc there just isn't enough on the sleeve for longer term life maintenance just yet. Yes, I will say it's my preference, but I am going the RNY route. I have read so much and see other benefits I think I would have longer term w/ the RNY as well. If the sleeve is what you really want, then maybe getting another opinion would be best?

    What was the deciding factor?

I have been reseaching for 5 years and I can tell you (as my MD office will too) that the sleeve can stretch just as far, if not further, than the RNY and is no longer considered less ivasive. The surgery actually takes longer than the RNY and there is a higher risk of complication vs RNY. But, in regards to GERD or reflux, it goes both ways. It can make it worse if you already have it. It's unlikely you will come off meds for that reason w/ the sleeve although it does happen. I too, have bad GERD and an eroded esphogus and wanted the sleeve. After more reseach and such I have decided on the RNY. The sleeve can put more pressure on your esophugus because the sleeve sits up higher in your abdomen.

    What did your breast's do?

Good lord!!! if I get 'tube socks' I will need to raise $$ for a boob job!! Hahah!!
  18. My surgeon suggests at least 90g of protien a day. If you get unfalvored Protein powder you can add it to smoothies and other foods to bulk it up. Maybe 600 cal is too low? I've been doing a lot of research as I have the fear of not losing as well after my surgery. Let us know how you do!!

    Eating out, your way.

My mom is EXTREMELY health conscious and I am often emabarassed at how she orders everywhere she goes- she designs her own plate no matter where she goes and it's never been an issue. From the smallest diner to the 5star restuarnats. Now I see why she does it!! She has mantianed her weight for 50 years w/out surgery. The most dedicated health nut I know!

    Losing my support system

Sadly, so much changes for people after WLS. Friends, family, supports, etc. Some for the better and often times the worst.I suggest using this site for daily check in, supports, etc. Do a lot of research reading, find new hobbies where you might find connections. Bariatric support groups? Book clubs? Think outside the box and focus on yourself and becoming the best you can. Your r-ship w/ your husband appears strong so take those positives and kick it up a notch with him Embrace this new life!!
  22. Way to go!! Keep up that good work!!! This is the journey you meant to be on!

  24. I am supposed to take a extended weekend trip to Louisville KY w/ my best friend to see her daughter who I am also very close to. I have been hesitant b/c I don't want to go on vacation feeling 'fat' but I think this is something I need to do...try southern foods and fine whiskey (which I am a huge fan of)!! This is supposed to be the week before my surgery so it's a prime time. I also plan to make a bucket list for each 10 pounds I lose of things I have stopped doing for myself- manucures, a massage, a day trip, etc. I am so ready for this journey!!
