  1. Hey Loser, Happy Birthday!! And, Good luck on your surgery on Monday. I have til May to get prepared. Working hard on the mental aspect already. Not sure how limited you are really, today, I mean. But I hope that you can celebrate your birthday with a little taste of something you like. Good luck!

  2. Good Luck Loser. Hope all goes well with your surgery and recovery. I am also someone with a bit of a love for food, but ever since I found out I was having the surgery, I have lost my appetite LOL! I dunno if that is normal, but I do know it has helped keep the weight off. I eat small and frequent instead of large and not so frequent. Liquids will be tough too, but if we get the ok to chew gum shortly after surgery, I will A-OK Rob
  3. Thanks, Linda for your words. I am pretty consumed by this. Thoughts, dreams, internet. Sheesh!! This place has calmed me down, and being to read soooo much here is really settling. Thanks again!!

  4. Thanks for your cookbook suggestion. I am going to look it up and probably order it. Since I am Norway, I can order it and have it shipped to my mom's. It will be there waiting for me when we go there on vacation in April. I look forward to trying it out. Those are the kind of resources I am looking for, thanks again! =)

    No more diabetic medication !!

Oh you do not know how glad I was to come across this thread. I have type II diabetes. I have had it for 16 years - medication controlled. I take minidiab, actos, and metaformin. I sure hope this surgery has the same effect on me. WTG and good luck in all you do...thanks for sharing. Rob
  6. Is there a strange feeling changing your diet like you and Linda did? I mean that literally, feeling as in headaches, nausea, etc.?
  7. Hey there. I will not be there, but I will be praying for you. I am excited to track your surgery with you. I see you have been through so much with your Band, and I know you are excited to get Sleeved. Good luck and as they say in Norway...Lykke Til (Good Luck) Rob
  8. DeeDee thanks for your comment on my blog. I will keep you all posted. Right now the big thing is getting my head in gear with what is to come. I know it isn't until May, but it means I have a chance to lose weight and get used to some pro-shakes, bars and other beginning foods. I thought about even making a few puree foods to see what I would like. Do you have any suggestions on what you liked?

  9. Hey Linda. I was just reading your entry here for the 10th of January...happy belated birthday btw. I see you now include some "real" foods even snacks in your diet. I guess I was afraid to even think I could have that even a year after surgery. So many things consume my mind right now though. I guess that is normal.

  10. Hey there friend =) How is everything going on your end?

  11. So sorry - Posted this in the wrong thread. Should have been posted in beginners. Hello everyone, I am an American living in Norway and it will be here that I get my surgery. They told me that I will be doing a special diet before my surgery. It is to prepare my brain for the changes to come. The diet will be based on some Norwegian food...but my my question is this: Did you guys get a special diet to prepare for your surgery? If so, what was it? They told me I should try to lose some weight before. I am making a good effort and exercise nearly daily and eat small meals - often. I have not yet started this diet of 990 calories. Please, let me know. Thanks for reading and your input would be appreciated. Rob

  15. Hey everyone! I am new here and have been reading for 2 hours already at various stories of people getting the VSG, those who have had it, and those who are waiting to get it or considering it. I want to say, first of all, that I think this site is awesome and I look forward to communicating with as many of you as possible about your journey and share mine. So, here is mine is short. I an an American living in Norway. I married my Norwegian wife in the USA 5 years ago and we have 3 kids. I never thougth I would ever have kids this late in life and certainly never planned on being this heavy. I have had Type II Diabetes for the past 16 years - it kicked in when I became 310lbs. At 5'6, now at 270 that sets my BMI to about 43.5. I do not look all that big, but my knees tell me that I am. I feel like I constantly battling my weight. As many of you, it has been for the majority of my life. My doctor here recommended it last year and told me that because of my diabetes he recommended WLS. I was, of course, very skeptical. I had NEVER considered myself to be a candidate, but then he explained everything to me and it was like...WOW, I AM a candidate. Soooo, he put in my application. Because this is socialized medicine here in Norway, I am going to get my surgery paid for, which was one major stress relief. Well, anyway, that was last year, and on the 16th this month I got my letter to report to the hospital for my pre-ed and pre-op examination. Been there and did that. I am now just kind of trying to put it all together in my head, and it is all I can think about. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I will keep you updated.

I believe this is the right thing to do.

Tiffykins, Your words are inspiring. I feel like I am in the same boat with Andreanoelle. Up and down with emotions, this decision has consumed me (no pun intended =)) I hope that I feel the same as you after I go throught the surgery. I feel more confident already since I signed onto this forum. Thanks, Rob

Andreanoelle, Hey there, I know exactly what you are talking about. My biggest problem is control. I am able to lose the weight with the right exercises and diet, problem is, it is way too easy for me to put it back on with a lil extra. I think that is the reason I am ok with the surgery. I have had and still have the same thoughts as you. I am making an effort to lose weight before surgery though. They tell me to go on a certain diet before I do the surgery too. I will keep everyone posted. Peace and good luck! Rob

Hey Thinoneday! Ya, it is strange about the name thing. Didn't realize how much of a self slam it was til just recent. I have not received the actual date date just yet, but I know it will happen after I get back from my vacation to the USA. Going to CO to visit family in April, so they said they could postpone my surgery til May. Funny thing is, I had just booked the tickets a week prior. They wanted to do the surgery in March. Thanks so much for your support and ear. Rob
