I'm new to the forums. I'll be having my lap band surgery in August! However, I just had surgery to repair an umbilical hernia (2 weeks post op).
I remember being extremely scared since this was my first surgery and I heard a lot about the post op pain. I was given a valium before surgery. I was wheeled in and put on the operating table. The last thing I remember is showing the staff how much I was shaking (from nerves and the cold temperature in the or). Then i heard a voice say "Start the drugs...". Then I was out like a light.
I cant recall if it was a dream or an actual experience, but I remember looking at the staff doing my surgery (from my normal viewpoint...I wasnt floating away or anything). I remember someone looking at me and then that was it. There was no pain, no anxiety, it was just me looking at the surgeon team.
Then I woke up and immediately asked the nurse for a bedpan because I thought I had to go to the bathroom. I didnt ask the staff about me waking until I had my post op follow up with my surgeon. He said that he couldn't recall if I woke up but said that it was possible that I could have opened my eyes and had some level of consciousness during the procedure. Thankfully, the experience was not a bad one.
Since I had a great recovery period and the surgery wasnt as bad as I thought, I am looking forward to my august date.
