Any People With Gastric Sleeve Leaks?
HansiH replied to Driver63's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pulmonologist should have been the one to tell me but she didn't. I just finally let it go because I am better. The doctors were very worried about me and were there for me at any given moment that I needed them. I know you must be worried. I was just like you. I was just hitting 39 bmi and had nothing else except for sleep apnea. I never thought that a problem could happen to me. My husband had his done about two months before me and he NEVER had a problem. I feel that the surgery is well worth everything I went through. I feel wonderful now and have so much energy. -

I wore my CPap way too soon after surgery. The forced air causd the rupture. CPap's should not be used for atleast 4 weeks after surgery from what I am told. -

Now that time has finally passed, I WOULD DO IT AGAIN. Please do not get me wrong, this was a life or death situation and I made it through. I am down 70 + lbs. was 232 at surgery and now I am 156. I went from a size 22 to an 8 currently. I feel wonderful and have more energy than I have had since I was a teenager. I would be happy to answer any questions you might have or for anyone else. Just call me 678-274-7280. Hansi -

Any People With Gastric Sleeve Leaks?
HansiH replied to Driver63's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you so much! I am a little better today. I went to the doctor earlier this afternoon and he took my drain out! That is a big step in the right direction I hope. I go tomorrow morning for another upper GI to see where we stand. I am praying that I have been on the fast track and may be healed. I will let you know when I get back. The other good news is that I drove myself to my appointment today, first time I have got to drive since July 14th. I am so happy. It felt good to be free. Hansi -
Any People With Gastric Sleeve Leaks?

I am glad to hear that those who have had leaks are doing well. I had VS on July 8th, stomach ruptured on July 15th, and stayed in the hospital until Aug. 6th. I am home with a JP drain and a J tube for feeding. The doctor wanted to put a stint in but I was too afraid. I told him I was ok with the feeding tube because I just did not want to take a chance of the stint weakening any other tissue around it. I am on Clear liquids and go to the doctor of a check up tomorrow. Not sure when I will go back in for an upper GI to check to see if the leak has healed. I would guess one day in the next week or so. I have been so depressed because I can't take care of my family. It is hard to just sit here on a feeding tube and watch life go by. At this point this surgery was the worst mistake I have ever made in my life. I pray that I feel different when I am all well and back to "normal." I am hanging in there but would love to talk to others who have been through the same thing. Thank you all, Hansi -
Sweetdreams, I am sending prayers that there is not a bleeder and that you are up walking and drinking very soon. However, it is better to catch it now! I hope you enjoy your rest at the hospital as much as I did. The dozing in and out was great. LOL It really helped me catch up on all the sleep I had missed needlessly worrying. If you need anything let us know. Hansi

I am so sorry! I am sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. I know the doctor is only trying to do what is best for you but yes the timing does suck. Please hang in there and don't give up. I walked down a tough road that took me more than a year to get to surgery, with an insurance that should have only taken 3 months.

I hope you did well with surgery yesterday!

Kim, You will do wonderful! I was so worried going in but I am a worrier anyway. It was a walk in the park. The hardest part of recovery was waking up. I had worried myself so much that I was tired and wanted to sleep. LOL I sooner I stayed awake the sooner I got to go to my room. I wanted to be with family so I forced myself to stay awake, then fell asleep on my family. HAHAHA After that getting up and walking as much as possible helped to move the gas (used to pump the belly cavity open) and made me much more comfortable. I got to spend time with other sleevers who were also walking the halls. Once home I just took it nice and easy. I do recommend sleeping at and angle for a few days. I am still doing so. I have just propped up in a corner of the sofa with pillows behind me and down the sides of me and I sleep like a baby at night. Even better than I did before surgery. To top things off... I am noticing a change in my wrists, ankles and the rewave on my arms! It is really strange but so wonderful. I am so excited for you and CAN'T wait to hear how you are recovering. Please keep me posted. Hansi

Hard to believe over 30 of us have already had surgery this month. I hope each and every one is recovering nicely and getting back to life as normal. I am 4 days out and doing great! I am so thankful for the decision I have made and am not having hardly any discomfort at all. I am thankful for the friends I am making and the ones that have helped me along the way. For those of you who are still waiting... You will do GREAT!!! Congratulations to all of you to come. Cant wait to hear how you have done. Hansi

Thank you MLD, I am recovering nicely. It is a little hard to swallow but not unbearable. As far as getting up and walking around it is very easy. I am just staying a little tired from the pain meds but so excited with the future. Not even hungry, well just a tad.

CutiePie, I hope you do great. I will have to say this was a whole lot easier that I ever thought it would be. I am recovering nicely but still having a little pain. If I had a choice I would have stayed one more night in the hospital but I am doing great here at home. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. If you want to talk my number is 678-274-7280 Hugs, Hansi

I completely agree! I made it back home today but wish I had stayed one more night for the extra pain meds. I am not at an unbearable pain but would have liked to have a little more time for relief. I hope you are doing great and feeling better!!! I am finding it a little hard to get my liquids down right now. I am sure it will get easier. Let me know if you need anything. Hansi

Thinking of everyone who has been ahead of me and going in behind me today. Tomorrow is my surgery and today has been Clear liquids ans Dulcalax. Hummm, so much fun! It really is not bad but the "head hunger" is getting to me. Not to mention having half of the family here for me and watching them eat fried chicken and some awfully darn good looking biscuits, LOL. I will be under at 10:30 tomorrow morning. Please send out a prayer or two if you are able. Hugs to ALL, Hansi

My husband had his done on May4th. He stayed 2 nights also. He also had a hernia fixed and was sore. He is already down over 30lbs. I am so proud of him. I go in on June 10th if all goes right with insurance. I am waiting on final approval! Praying they do not let me down again. They denied me back in Jan. Congratulations and hope your two weeks goes great! -
Congratulations Nraeh. You will be in our prayers for a speedy recovery.
