Pills vs Chewables
Gaylebco replied to Bryn Dawson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc prescribed pills in the hospital then I got an infection and he prescribed bactrim DS. Its HUGE. As bit as my index finger tip. Breaking it in half still made me cringe but they went down. The only funny part...the pharmacist said to take them with a little food..like crackers...lol on day one of the pills, I started day one of pureed foods...NO crackers. I thinks all docs are different and its your choice but I'm surviving just fine. -

Is post op different for low bmi's compared to higher?
Gaylebco replied to Eyemallrt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a BMI of 40 going into the operation. I heaved and did so for 5 hours until i vomited after surgery, thus swelling the entire insides, making it very painful just to sip water. 4 days after surgery i have an infection in one of my incision sites and am taking by mouth HUGE antibiotic pills. I have very little energy and hope the lump above my infection incision is not a big deal. Every person is different and you will never know what will happen untill you have the surgery. BTW dispite all, I'm glad i had it and do not reqret it. -
so glad your on the losers bench with us! I gained a few iv fluid pounds in the hospital also. Sorry your having so much paina nd i hapy you feel better soon!

less then one weekout and infection!
Gaylebco posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok so saturday night (4 days after surgery) my largest incision site (near my belly button) was warm and red. Lucky my surgeon take pics on his blackberry and looked it over the phone...said wait 24 hours and resend a pic. Sunday night it was late and i sent him the pics and by monday i am now on the BIGGEST antibiotic i have ever seen! Breaking it in half it's still huge . (to all those who say when can i take a pill...your body can physically take one now i guess) I have to put antiboitic cream and gauze on the site. The good news is my nut let me progress to pureed food to up my bodies ability to fight this mess. I have also found a lump above the site about 2 fingertips across and the doc said, just let me know if it gets bigger....any one have a clue what it might be. I'm a nurse and i have visions of all sorts of bad things..but wanted to know if anyone had this happen before? thanks for any help! -

Feel Dumb for Not Having 'Food Funeral'
Gaylebco replied to loribug's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
don't feel bad about not haveing a food funeral. We all should not have any (my nut said..start today with healthy eating)..but i ended up having some yummies the night before pre-op. As the saying goes...nothing tastes as good as thin feels! Your doing the right thing making good choices now. We all have some sort of worry or buyers remorse during the initial phases and i rarely hear anything negative when they say I have lost 100 pounds! Your tastes will change and your desire for food decreases or is all together gone so your desire for your old favorites might just go away. I'm in the 1 week post op liquid phase and am looking forward to applesauce....silly but can't wait! Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress! -
my nut said no baby food, since they can add sugers and such to the foods. I would perfer to ahve real food blended..but ti's my opinion

Surgery on 9 Aug! Yikes!!!
Gaylebco replied to curvygirl68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello and good luck on your surgery. I am also lactose intolerant and if you use a100% whey protein isolate, it's lactose free. there are a lot of them out there, just look up "whey protein isolate and lactose free" on google and i found a lot. Good luck on your search and on the surgery! -

Gaylebco replied to Kristy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Anyone have any tips for preop liquid diet?
Gaylebco replied to FishingNurse's topic in Food and Nutrition
nurselisa, I"m on the post diet of clears only but lots of suggestions for strained soup..like veggie with the veggies strained out and the broth is so much better, or egg drop soup (again strained). Of course there is popcycles also ( sugar free) I know you can do this..it's so hard but so worth the suffering before! -
ok so i didn't get my ideal hospitalization of feeling no pain and all is good. First day took the lortab and spent the entire afternoonand evening dry heaving till finally it all came out at 10pm. Felt better at 1am. by morning i had found out he also repaired a small hernia and only meds i get is plain tylenol. My tymmy was pretty sore and tylenol was only helping a smal bit. Every tiny sip causes a lot of pain in my chest ( mind you this is only water) Taking a lot of the gas-ex and it helps at times. I'm walking a bit around the house and hoping that's helping also. Anyone else having this type of pain and any solutions besides keep sipping and using gas-ex and walking...I am able to do that...but hurts to just take sips. Gayle

home from the hospital
Gaylebco replied to Gaylebco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a call back formt he nut at my doc's office. She said that since I had such a hard day in the hospital and with the throwing up, I probably caused a lot more swelling than normal so it might be a few extra days for the more normal feeling i am waiting for. She said try cooler or warmer temp liquids. Thanks for the positive wishes for me -

Ok to all who have started and all who will start it soon...what was your Final meal? As I sit here with the grill warming up for some boneless ribs and have a martini on the patio table.....i wonder who had what types of food the last time before their pre op diet started? Were you all good people and ate something nutritious or did you go nuts and eat everything you thought you'd miss forever? Gayle

last 2 days before my sleeve and what am i doing
Gaylebco posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm cooking! Like crazy, i'm cooking. Making guloush, chilli, cauliflower and such, to puree for meals after i'm home and allowed pureed foods. am i nuts..well probably! but thinking it was a good idea to make stuff up ahead of time. Made Chilli for me then boiled the pasta part and added it for the family for dinner tonight. Pureed the cauliflower for me, so far it looks ok. Nothing like making up a bunch of hot meals on a 100 degree day. Sad part is, i'm hungry now..moreso than the last few days...got to keep my eye on the prize! Good luck to all us August people in the next few weeks...we can do this! -

Pre-Op and gaining weight
Gaylebco replied to CowgirlJane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm getting sleeved on tuesday and from what i read and know it's an Adkins type diet we all follow after surgery. High in Protein, low in cards. If you need structure, follow the adtkins exactly for a while..the first phase is very strict and then it gets a bit more lienient as the stages progress. You can still have high quality foods, just limit them to whats on their list of foods. You can eliminate carbs slowly is you can't tolerate going all the way. Carbs are easily processed by the body so your metabolism doens't have to kick up when you eat them. If you eat a little protein every 3-4 hours, your body's metabolism has to kick up to process the protein. Making meals and Snacks with high protein will hellp with weight loss. Good luck with your journey! Gayle
