  1. The end of another busy day. Just finished fixing lamb chops and meatloaf for my meals this week. Did some cleaning & laundry. Limping around since my calves are still tight, but I've been stretching them occasionally this afternoon and I think it's helping. I look like I'm trying to push the wall down when I do the stretching, but it's helping.

  2. Dang my calves are super tight right now. I hope this is a temporary thing....

  3. Man my muscles are sore from yesterday. But, I'm still planning to get to the healthplex today.

  4. Looks like I'll have to file yet another formal complaint on Monday about the upstairs neighbor. I have my headphones on - full blast and can STILL hear the music from the upstairs neighbor. It typically starts around 1:30am and will wake me up out of sound sleep. I can't believe there are no other complaints about this noise during the "quiet hours". :(

  5. Busy crazy day. I walked 1 mile, did 20 minutes (1500 steps) on a nu-step machine and then had a 1/2 hour workout with Anthony Reed. That is how my day started. All of that was done before 10am. And I've just been going and going ever since. I even got the new shoes that Anthony recommended for working out in. I was "pooped" after the workout, but tonight I'm feeling really, really good!

  6. Gonna be a long day...

  7. The "Getting Started with Mac" class tonight was rather interesting. I learned many things. :) Still have a LOT to learn though.

  8. At the Apple Store again in Kenwood Towne Center. Tonight a class on the MacBook Air. Maybe I can finally figure out how to do some things with this toy. :)

  9. Just finished The Law of Nines by Terry Goodkind. It was better than I thought it would be.if you have read the Sword of Truth series but not this book, I encourage you to read it. It parrallels Richard and Kahlan, but is it's own story.

I Don't Know What to Eat?

I've discovered that I can eat just about anything - although lettuce does not sit well with me. Keep it high Protein - and get the protein in first, then veggies, then fruit, then other stuff if there is room. I had a craving last weekend for cheese bread from a local pizza joint. I wasn't sure how well it would sit, but I had some and it was wonderful. It actually scared me a bit at how easy it was to eat and didn't give me problems. I won't be doing that very often (it will be a good long while before I do that again though as I know it wasn't the best choice to make - too many fat grams, carbs and calories). I could only eat about 10% of what I used to, but it was still enough to satisfy my craving. I know it was mostly the head hunger for the craving, but I had been doing so good that I figured the one time eating of it wouldn't do too much harm.

    Bariatric Fusion Protein Shakes

Hi Jenni, Yeah, I've tried them all except the unflavored. Frankly, the mint chocolate chip ice cream, cinnamon bun and the chocolate mousse are my favorites, but I do like the strawberry and the vanilla ones too. I really did not like the cappuccino - but I don't like coffee anyway. Their vitamins are so much better than the Bariatric Advantage vitamins since they are not chalky.
  12. I closed the Apple Store - well not quite, but almost. The one hour class turned into a 2 hour class and it wasn't the advanced class but it was the basic class. I did pick up another tip or two though.

How long do we drink protein for?

I've been using Nectar and Bariatric Fusion protein drinks - they taste really good to me. I only use them as I need to - most of my protein actually comes from food now - chicken, turkey, buffalo meat, fish, etc. My dietician recommends at least 60 g of protein a day and I've been doing that from food alone for the last 4 weeks.
  14. I haven't been around much lately as I've become rather busy again with work. But, it's now 2 months since my surgery. I totally missed my Labor Day goal - I had hoped to lose 30 pounds post surgery by Labor Day. I lost just 24 pounds post-surgery. A big part of why I did not meet goal was the fact that I hit not 1 but 2 stalls during that time. The first stall I had actually gained 4 pounds and held that for a solid week then it dropped. Then for the last 3.5 weeks I have been in another stall. Being stuck at 255 for so long was getting depressing. Well, last Thursday, I decided to try to "shock" my body back into dropping the weight again and went back to the basics. For 2 days I just did 2 or 3 Protein shakes and a sensible high protein dinner (grilled chicken, Mexican Beans, tomato salsa). Prior to that I had been getting 100% of my protein from food. The last 2 days I went back to getting 100% of my protein from food. Well, it seems to have worked. This morning I am at 250.0! Still 1 pound from my Labor Day goal, but I'm finally making progress toward it again. I have lost a total of 33.5 inches and have dropped 2 clothing sizes. I am moving around better than I have in years. My back doesn't hurt as much, nor do my knees. I am now able to walk a good 1/2 mile before breathing heavier and am able to take 15 to 20 stairs before breathing heavier. Prior to surgery, I could not take more than 3 stairs or walk more than a few steps before breathing heavier. My blood sugars are routinely below 120 (and starting to have more under 100), so I am completely off of my diabetes medications and have been since my surgery. At the end of October I'll go in for another A1C and it should be a good drop from the 8.8 it was at the end of May. I will be starting this week at the health plex - working out at least 3 or 4 days per week in addition to the walking that I have been doing. I hope that I can keep up with the schedule I'm setting up for myself.
  15. I did something this morning that I have not been able to do in about 2 years. I actually stood up while teaching my class this morning! I had been sitting because I just could not stand for long periods of time. This morning though, I stood for my 1 hour lecture! Woo Hoo I love having lost this weight!

  17. Just discovered the Revolutionary War pension file for a Josiah Wellington that totally destroys my theory of who my ancestor's parents might have been. So, I'm back to the drawing board as far as trying to figure out where my 5th great-grandfather Josiah Wellington came from. It also proves that any family tree on the Internet that claims to know his parents were Josiah and Susannah is WRONG.

  18. Next week, I will start working out at Mercy Healthplex Fairfield. I toured the facility today and it's a nice one. Looking forward to this.

  20. Started the withdrawal process for Western Governors. The term passed by and I couldn't get things done for the 2nd time - so that's a sign that I need to withdraw and try again in the future when I can get time.

  21. Support group was great tonight. I met someone who I originally met on verticalsleevetalk.com - Jennifer. It was nice to put a face with the online friend. :)

  22. Cooking class tonight was great! We had Grilled Chicken with Tomato, Lime & Cilantro Salsa (this was AWESOME!!!), Mexican Tomato Beans (it was ok), Shaved Summer Squash Salad with Prosciutto Crisps (Really Really good!), and Perfect Lemon Bites (a slice of heaven!). All recipies are bariatric surgery patient appropriate. I am stuffed and have some leftovers for tomorrows meals.

  23. Lee, you have overstayed your welcome. Please leave. (No offense meant to my friends Lee R. Yancer or Lee Hillier - I'm referring to the tropical storm.)

  24. Here's hoping that I get many more registrations today for my classes that start next week in Cincinnati. Last chance to register!

  25. Attention GE Cincinnati friends - I need more people to sign up for the classes that start next week. Please let your friends know.
