Welcome to the forums. Congratulations on making the decision to have the sleeve done. I'm sorry about your friend. That's rough.

Over 200lbs to loose
Nancy Rivers replied to lml32937's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome to the forums. Yeah, there are a few people who have lost over 150 pounds on here. I want to lose about 140 to 150 pounds myself - so far I've lost 19 since my surgery 3 weeks ago. -
Sugar is a very quick source of energy. If you are eating a relatively large amount of sugar after your surgery, your body will simply use that for energy instead of the "harder" process of burning fat for energy. If you are not burning fat for energy, then you won't be loosing the weight like you should be. Also, if you take in too much sugar in one sitting, you could experience dumping syndrome even with the sleeve. Essentially, the sleeve says "I want Protein - not sugar" and expels the sugar back the way it came from. It doesn't happen to everyone, but there is a chance of it.

unflavored protein
Nancy Rivers replied to lovemyboys's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people say that the unflavored protein still has a flavor to it. However, I have had the unflavored protein from Optimum Nutrition and didn't think it changed the flavor of things at all. Many others like the unjury unflavored (or the chicken broth flavored). -
Diabetes...Sleeve or RNY??
Nancy Rivers replied to OilSooner's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been diabetic since 2003. I had the surgery 3 weeks ago. I am currently off all of my diabetes medication. There are several others on the boards who are in similar situations - or at least greatly reduced medications. -
if you are having problems posting today -
Nancy Rivers replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I thought it was just me, so I've been doing a bunch of maintenance on my computer - and the buttons have changed back to what they were before. -
For Christmas, a good friend of mine gave me as a present a pair of pants (which frankly I needed). Unfortunately, while they did fit, they didn't fit right if you get my meaning. Well, today I put them on without really thinking about it, and they fit right! The waist band is a little loose, but the rest fit right and they are comfortable. Yay me!

I tried 2 of the small bottles of alpine punch and I couldn't stand the taste so I didn't drink the rest of what I had bought.

Should I be concerned?
Nancy Rivers replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had been leaving them all open to the air and not putting anything on them. I only did it because it bled a bit and I wanted to make sure it didn't get infected. I plan to take it off in the morning. Thanks. -
A friend of mine always "de-strings" her celery. I'm not sure how she does it, but I know she does. I would think that if it was small and you chew it really well, then it shouldn't be an issue.

Reminder to SIP and not gulp!
Nancy Rivers replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Still unpacking and still need to get a couple of things, but I'm not going to "push myself" to hard. My muscles ache today, so I'm resting more than unpacking. I know it's because I'm not used to being active, but I don't want to injure myself either by doing too much too quickly. -
I was thirsty after a long day of moving furniture into my new place (thankfully, the delivery people did most of the work, but I had some "fine tuning" to do - sliding furniture so I'm not lifting. Anyway, I was rather thirsty, so I get out my trusty bottle of water and take a drink - like I would have a month ago - just chugging away. Suddenly, my sleeve said "whoa - wait a minute!" Nice tight feeling in the chest, breaking out into another sweat, I stop chugging and wait for the feeling to go away. It doesn't until I go to the bathroom and throw up. It was just water that came back up, but still. Now I feel much better of course. Although I'm sure my sleeve is still upset with me. Lesson learned - I MUST SIP no matter how thirsty I am.

Reminder to SIP and not gulp!
Nancy Rivers replied to Nancy Rivers's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's the first time since surgery I have thrown up. Hopefully it won't happen again. -
Welcome to the forums. There are a lot of people on here who have revised from the band to the sleeve and have had success. There's actually a separate board for those that have that type of surgery. On the main page, scroll down and you'll see it. You'll have success with the sleeve. Just follow what your surgeon and dietician tell you, and you will be successful!

Why do I think I can eat more than I can???
Nancy Rivers replied to RedShoesinDallas's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I got baby spoons to help me eat more slowly and smaller bites. So far it's been working well. I also measure my food and eat only that amount. -
Time to Stop Dragging my Feet and Introduce Myself
Nancy Rivers replied to Bakomom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the forums. Good luck with getting your surgery scheduled quickly. -
Got most of my furniture (there was a mixup and I didn't get the correct dining table/chairs. They will re-deliver that Monday morning. Cincinnati Bell came early to hook up my tv/internet. The guy wouldn't even help me get the TV out of the box. Thankfully, I was able to - although I'm not sure how advisable it was.

People carry weight differently?
Nancy Rivers replied to a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yup, people do carry weight differently. Most people think I weigh somewhere around 200 to 220. In reality I was 288. Mine is concentrated in my torso and upper legs. I had in January bought myself size 28W for the first time ever. Right now, if you were to look at me without clothing, it almost looks like I am pregnant in my torso, but still have big thighs.
