The Dreaded Stalls...
FatToPhat replied to Can'tweight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"Poo" !!! I love it! That's exactly how I feel about MY stalls! Don't worry, they'll break and you'll lose a pound a day for several days and THEN go into another stall! At least that's what I do....Poo! -
Cholesterol of 700??? Wow...but, no worries, you're on the right path!! I definitely know what you mean about emotional eating. I kind of miss being able to reach out for that same comfort now, but I'm glad I can't!
-
Yeah, I've noticed the same thing about volume. Weird...
-
No, unfortunately I've been losing pretty slowly. I lost 18 lbs preop (5 lbs previously, then 13 lbs in one week of the preop diet), so have only lost another 13 lbs since my surgery. I was on a stall for 3 whole weeks which really slowed things down a bit. I think I've been struggling with keeping the carbs down. When I eat too many carbs, my weight loss slows down. I wish you great luck and smooth sailing with your surgery next week! You'll do fine. Even though my weight loss is slow, I definitely think the surgery has helped me to rethink what I eat and how MUCH I can eat!! But you still have to do the work and make the right decisions about what goes into your mouth. That's been a learning process for me since the surgery. But, hey, 13 lbs in not quite 7 weeks is still almost 2 lbs a week which would be 104 lbs in a year! I'll take that!

Interesting...I didn't think about the mustard. Might be!! Thanks.

Great present for a Happy Birthday!

Hey there! It sounds like you are doing GREAT!! AND you're doing better than I am on the weight loss. I have been in a stall for 3 weeks now. I might be just now coming out of it, but not sure, yet. We'll see as the week progresses. I'm SO glad you're doing so well.
-
Yahoo! You're going to do great!! Good luck with your preop diet! I told my doctor the only reason I went through with the surgery was so I could have some soup!! (After a week on the preop)
-
I'm glad to hear it might ease up eventually! Yeah, I have noticed I don't get it as frequently if I heat a high protien, more filling meal. sugar free Jello doesn't do a thing for it!
-
Thanks! I'll give that a try, also. I've tried a week of Pepcid, which helped, but not enough, so I'm switching to Prilosec and will see how that works. I'll grab some Gaviscon, though, too. Anything to stop these frustrating sensations!

I left my stomach in Mexicali

LOVE this!!! You're hilarious! So glad you're back home and did so well with the surgery. -
Thanks for this post. I have completely stalled now that I'm on mushies and it scares me a bit. I need to tweak my intake a little bit as I've been "grazing" somewhat and need to start exercising which I've been avoiding for some reason and I think I'll break the stall. I appreciate hearing your experience, though!
-
Thanks for the link and the info! I just bought some Prilosec, so I'll see how it works for me. I sure hope it works as these sensations are driving me crazy!
-
Hi Dawn, That is a good point that you bring up about not being exactly sure what the sensations are or mean. I know it was hard the first couple of weeks to figure out what each "pain" was. So, no, I'm not totally sure it's hunger pangs, but I do know it feels like the way I felt before the surgery when I went a LONG time without eating (didn't happen often) and I would get so hungry I would feel sick. Only it's much worse. However, I don't get shaky or headachy like my blood sugar is low, but it feels like I HAVE to eat right now! And I have noticed that the symptoms don't always go away when I eat, but most of the time they do. Thanks for your input.
-
Karen, Thanks so much for posting! It did actually make me feel better to know that I'm not alone in this regarding these weird symptoms. Sorry to hear a prescription didn't even help, but glad it's at least somewhat better for you. I'll still try a PPI as I haven't tried that, yet. It's really frustrating and it sounds like you can totally relate!
-
Rootman, Thanks for the info about the Tums! I'll watch my intake of those. Also, I'll try switching to Prilosec as Pepcid is NOT a PPI and maybe that might make the difference. Haven't tried the crackers, yet, but that's a good idea, too.

GPS Update: Important new information
FatToPhat replied to DrWatkins's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Olivam, I LOVE what you wrote here! Thank you so much for saying it! I have felt the same way and have often felt "put down" for choosing the Plication over the Sleeve. Sometimes it has just been subtle comments, but sometimes not so much. Anyway, I wont rehash it, because you said it all very eloquently. -

Vertical Gastric Sleeve vs Gastric Plication
FatToPhat replied to bizzy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Maria, I certainly understand your fears. All of the surgeries have potential risks to them. It's just a matter of doing your research and choosing one you feel the most comfortable with. Even though there are supposedly some doctors saying they wont do the plication, I believe it is still going to be done quite a bit more in the near future. I wish we had more long term results on it, though. So far, at 2 weeks out from the surgery, I feel great and am down 21 lbs. Hang in there, the nervousness is normal! -
This too shall pass. Hang in there! It WILL get better! Or so they tell me!

Asparagus is considered too stringy and fibrous and I've heard we're supposed to stay away from that for a while, too.

Vertical Gastric Sleeve vs Gastric Plication
FatToPhat replied to bizzy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you for the amount of weight you've lost already and for having the courage to have the surgery and get even healthier! I wish you much success! -
Good advice about "Just because I can..." I heard a stall is normal about 3-5 weeks out. I'm not looking forward to it myself!

Hi L, I waved at you as we drove through your hometown on our way down there! Nice looking community. I'm feeling much better the past couple of days with very little pain or discomfort now. But, it's a learning experience trying to figure out what the pains are or not to overeat, etc. Yesterday I ate a small amt. of Soup a little too fast and I hurt for about 15 minutes afterwards. Like they say, if you feel like you're full, don't take that one more bite! I'm usually having a Protein shake or cream of wheat for breakfast, then drinking flavored Water, iced tea, crystal light etc, in between meals. Lunch and dinner are usually 4 oz of soup...cream of chicken, split pea, cream of potato, etc. Then I'll try to fit in a little bit of a Protein Shake in the evening but most of the time I'm too full for that. I've been adding unflavored Protein powder to the Soups. I'll ocassionally have a sugar free popsicle or some diluted sugar free pudding. I'm down 17 lbs since starting the preop diet 2 weeks ago! We told my husband's parents last night about my surgery. I thought they would be critical, but they were very supportive and excited for me, although full of advice, of course! I'm not sure when I'll be back down to see Cottam again. I'm thinking 3-6 months with 6 months for sure. I'll definitely let you know and we can meet and share our successes! How are YOU doing so far?
