    July 2011 Bandsters!

we haven't been active on this topic as much, and i just wanted to say i miss hearing from you all! and, i am one pound away from onederaland! let's hope i make it there this week! i will not lose anything for days, and then all of a sudden will lose 3-4 lbs, so let's hope that happens in the next few days...

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I am going thru a rough time with the band...after my last fill which was my third one, i though i was too tight because the whole weekend, i would get stuck everytime i had any type of solid, good or bad. since the weekend, i think things are easing up and i am able to eat somewhat now, but i got so discouraged that i think i am making terrible eating choices almost everyday. i am confused: am i too tight and because of that convincing myself to eat slider and bad foods, or am i not tight enough and just depressed about the truth of the matter that i will not be able to eat certain things without getting stuck. i am stuggling with this way of life because i feel like i am doomed to miss out on all the fun, and plus i am not even losing much to make it worth it. sometimes i think i just need to hurry up and start exercising to help me along and get me over this slump and not run into the office for an unfill or a fill. any advice?

i've tried hotdogs and they are fine, just chew them really well. anyone here had a fill and finds they are sliming more (i guess that makes sense because we are tighter)...i've learned to chew more and swallow slower and stop when i know i should to avoid this, but the first few days, it kept happening, and it was nasty...i went to the movies last weekend, and had to run to the bathroom 7 times to throw up a bit everytime, and it was the food with a ton of mucuous!

i hear you sister! i haven't gained, but i feel such a loss with no progress going on, and i got a fill friday, and i don't feel much difference...i think i need to start my exercise regime and get the head voices out when they tempt me to eat unhealthy.

I had pretty much the same experience, except I had 5 ccs, and with the 3 ccs added, I now have 8 ccs. I still don't feel restriction, and am still hungry between meals, but it is a little better than before I had the fill. She said I can come back next week, if I don't feel much change.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

I have been missing from here for over two weeks! I was out of town, and when we came back, we lost a very dear friend to cancer who had been very sick for the last few months. We were so busy with my friend and her children, I didn't have a chance to check in. I was pretty much eating without thinking, but I think the stress did make me tighter because I would start to PB more frequently probably because I was eating too fast without chewing as much and concentrating. I go in for my first fill tommorrow and I am really excited about it. I hope they are able to get me to my sweet spot, though I know that is unlikely the first time. I had a huge weight loss stall, but lost 1 pound this morning when I stepped on, so hopefully it only gets better from here...

If you have an allergan lap band, our surgeon office told us they are making portion bowls and plates (I ordered them but not in yet) and they are supposed to be very helpful with "eyeballing"

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Hi...I was there too, next month we must find each other...I was the one with my two kids (hubster did not get home in time)...it was quite embarassng, my daughter had to use the bathroom and I had to cut across the whole crowd...I am struggling with the weight loss stall, it really frustrates me...scheduled my first fill for July 29 though, so I am looking forward to that, and clothes are already fitting better now at least...

    July 2011 Bandsters!

hi all, i am struggling with the mushy stage...my appetite has returned now that i am healing well, and weight loss has almost stalled...i know this is to be expected until i get a fill, but it is very disappointing. i am trying to portion control, but i feel hungry now and so the calories are adding up much faster then when i was still on liquids...i guess i don't care if i don't lose much more until my fill on july 29, but i just hope i don't gain any of this lost weight back...i made a promise to myself that the scale will never move upwards again after the lapband, even if it stays the same or moves .1 downwards, JUST NOT UP PLEASE! i had my post-op appt today, and that went well though...

    Oatmeal

thanks for the idea...i am going to try this with me crock pot tonight...i have been having the instant ones since i started mushies yesterday, but it doesn't keep me full, and i can understand why the steelcut "real" oatmeal would be better...it will be fun to experiment with it to by adding protein powder and applesauce...if you have any other ideas for flavoring, please let us know!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

Day 1 of mushies...I had some potatoes with melted cheese, and they were potato chunks so I mashed them up with my fork before eating them. I think I may have eaten them too fast (something that I need to really work on) even though I was careful to chew really well. I was fine right after so I started thinking I was good, and then about 20 minutes later I started to have mild stomach cramping...is this because my body is not used to having real food versus liquids? Or is it because I ate too fast? I think it will take a while for me to learn what everything means?

Looks like we have the same doctor and were banded back to back on friday, mine with him on July 1st was at 10:45...I am also looking forward to eating mushies on Friday...there is a support group meeting on Monday at 6:30 PM, do you plan on attending? I am planning on it since it is only once a month, I think it should be helpful!

    July 2011 Bandsters!

i'm looking forward to the mushies stage too the weird stomach-y feeling is getting less and less...i guess it was just being gas-y because i do feel it even when i don't drink anything...incisions are soooooo much better today. anyone having issues with the incisions feeling itchy?
  16. sort of a gross question, but i am having surgery tommorrow and just got my period today (which i am grateful for cause i was having a bit of a pregnancy scare)...anyways, how do i handle that on surgery day...i am not a tampon gal and so i usually use pads...but won't we only have our gowns on?

    July 2011 Bandsters!

is anyone having discomfort in the abdomen and you don't know what it is? i can't tell if it is the gas from surgery settling downwards, or if maybe i am gulping or taking in too much liquid at a given time...i know we don't really have real restriction, but there is some saline in our bands, right:? if we gulp, then should it hurt or just feel uncomfortable? i haven't been really gulping, but i do feel i take in the amount of liquid i would have before sugery sometimes...like for example i had an entire water bottle and that is 16 oz, and i think that is way too much at a time, i had it like normal before within a few minutes...i also have a lot of gas discomfort definitely in the shoulders, but was thinking maybe that is what i am feeling in the abdominal area too...any thoughts will be appreciated!

i am also wondering about bowel movements...i haven't had one yet which i guess makes sense, but it's weird, shouldn't i be having one soon? what is the day out of surgery that is normal to have one?

i know what you mean...it's hard to sit still with a full house, i have been doing light chores too and it's been helping me though with the gas problems!

    Nursing Moms

my surgery went well and i nursed my son about 10.5 hours after i went in...i am happy to say he did great, and had no effects from the anesthesia even though I was nervous!
  23. are there any nursing moms out there that were nursing their child when they were banded? what tips do you have to give? how soon were you able to nurse after surgery, because i have heard many differing views...my doctor says 24 hours after, but there is no way my son will go that long, i think the most i can keep him away will probably be about 12 hours! i know some ppl have said they nursed as soon as they came home and were feeling up to it...
  24. doing great with the band today...my stomach tells me when to stop (i couldn't finish all of my tomato soup) and walked outside for a bit plus watered the plants and did some light stuff around the house...was able to carry and nurse my 11 month old...gas pain is still driving me crazy, but incisions are only midly paining now, much better. am very excited for this journey! so far so good...
