    Hungry hungry hungry

Hey again everyone! I am sorry to hear about those of you who are experiencing the hunger too :sad0: Are you waiting to drink an hour after eating? I have been doing that today even though I'm not supposed to have to worry about it yet... and I really think it's helping. Also - I made up a tuna salad mixture. It is about 5 oz of tuna, 2 TBS light mayo, 1 tsp mustard, 2 tsp sweet relish and a little bit of finely diced onion. It's so delicious! I ate 2 ounces and felt FULL! FINALLY! I feel full for the first time since surgery. I am anxious to see if it lasts me the 2-3 hours it is supposed to. I'll let you all know.

    Hungry hungry hungry

Thank you EVERYONE for weighing in on this today. I felt like I was going to bang my head against the wall soon. I have GREAT news, I really lucked out today. When we were waiting to check hubby out of the hospital, Kim came in - she is the head of the whole bariatric program at the hospital and works closely with my surgeon. She said that the sleeve program here is pretty underdeveloped because they've done so few... and they group us in with the bypass patients as far as the nutrition guidelines and classes... and that 1 ounce is far too little. She said I can eat UP TO 4oz in one sitting, every 2-3 hours. I don't know if it will take 4oz to fill me up or not but I will play around with it and see. She also said I could go ahead and advance to the next phase of eating - full soft food diet!! I said what do I do since the nutrition class for it is not until next week - she sat down and wrote out a list for me of what I could eat! She also said there was a cookbook written by one of my surgeon's patients that included recipes for all the eating phases, and I could go get it in his office which I did. I am home now (and hubby is too - resting comfortably) and I am going to go have some cottage cheese b/c it's time to eat but then I'm going to look through the cookbook and probably make up some stuff that I can try to eat later. I will let you all know how it goes. I think a lot of the problem here comes from the fact that a bypass patient starts with a 1 ounce stomach and mine is 3-4oz, and they just group us all together. I am so glad Kim came around and shared all this info with me. Also - she said even though generally they don't worry bout you drinking after meals until 6 weeks/solid food, that I should start now since I am having problems with hunger (which I was doing already after the suggestion this morning) so I am going to continue with that. If none of this works I will try the Prilosec too. Just don't want another pill to take if i don't have to :sad0: But I think that is a great suggestion Tiffy and thank you for the info. Also Kim said I could start solid food at 4 weeks if I want to, instead of 6 weeks... but, I will wait and see how this phase goes and if I am not dealing with the hunger as badly I will still wait until 6 weeks. Thank you everyone!

Trying to exercise- odd side effect??

It definitely sounds like acid, I'm not sure what else would make your throat burn like that! But I'm not sure exactly what to tell you to try. Before surgery when I had a lot of acid I found that drinking a small glass of milk really helped it, perhaps you could try a small glass of milk before your workout.

Tiffy... Did you do Prilosec OTC, or a prescription? I guess I could try it. Because I do feel these hunger pains about an hour after eating so maybe you are right. I didn't think it was acid because I had acid all the time pre-op and it felt completely different but I am willing to try anything! I think today I will start trying to not drink for an hour after my meal too and see if that helps.

    Hungry hungry hungry

Goodlife... my nutrition program says not to worry about drinking before/after meals until I get on solid food at 6 weeks - BUT - I think when I move to the semi-solids at 3 weeks (next week) I am going to start practicing that as much as possible and see if it helps. You might be onto something there. Maybe for me that's an issue even if it isn't for most in the early stage. Thank you for the idea.

Ack PinkJewels... NOT what I was hoping to hear but I thank you for telling me because I need to be prepared if that is what is in store for me. I might have to put more effort than most in making all the right choices if I am not full on my small amounts of food. Goodlife... yes I get all my fluids and Protein each day. Right now I'm in the yogurt/cottage cheese/refried Beans stage... and hoping solid foods will help but like I said I experimented yesterday and it didn't seem to help so I am worried.

    32 French, "tight sleeve"

As for the last part you said - when we are 80, etc.... this is the way I see it. Good luck getting to 80 years old at all if you are obese and in poor health right? Someone else had brought up the same thought and that is what occured to me.
  13. LOL that's funny! I'm two weeks out tomorrow and no regrets even though I can't eat much at all. It's all worth it! Wishing you all the best tomorrow. My husband is having the surgery tomorrow too!

    tightness in my calves

Not to worry you but it's POSSIBLE these could be blood clots, I would see your surgeon immediately to be checked out. Better to be safe.

    Male:Female Ratio in the Forum

Most men just aren't as chatty or into the whole forum thing  My hubby is having the surgery soon and I talk to him about this forum all the time but he still hasn't "set foot" in here.

    recovery time and unique circumstances

Everyone recovers at different rates but I can tell you that I am typically a SLOW healer and at 10 days out I feel like my normal self. Almost zero pain, walking lots every day, and not too low-energy (I think because I am getting all my protein and water.) The thing I would worry about for you at 3 weeks is you will still be on mushy foods most likely. Will you have available the types of foods you need, and the ability to make sure you can eat your 1oz every 2 hours without fail? These things are important to the process.

has anyone had ANY problems with their sleeve?

just from my limited experience thought I'd throw this out there... I'm 10 days out and have had no issues whatsoever! The only thing that even makes me nauseous is my vitamin (but it always did). Everything is healing nicely.

    Is this a true stall?

Just as an additional thought, if you have only recently been working out, you might be gaining some muscle which is making it seem like you aren't losing, even though you probably ARE losing fat & inches. Do you track your measurements? I bet there have been some changes there. Just keep it up, and the water is INVALUABLE, get 80oz a day and you will see changes!
