I need a fill in North Louisiana

Try my surgeon Dr. Norwood's office. It is a center of excellence and located in Shreveport. Here is his website:http://www.norwoodbariatric.com/index.html They are all about the aftercare and like to follow their patients closely.

    2 kinds of feeling stuck

Do papaya enzymes really work for stuck episodes? I have read warm water helps, but if the enzymes really work I'd like to keep them on hand at all times.

Donating a kidney post- lap band.

Then please forgive me, Cindy... I misread your first post thinking it said something like -you wouldn't jeopardize your band for an organ donation unless it was a life and death situation for a loved one. Sometimes making a difference is doing the one thing that most people would call crazy and in doing so... they can make the BIGGEST difference in someone else's life.

Donating a kidney post- lap band.

Donating an organ to a family member is one thing I think most people can understand, Donating an organ anonymously is one of the most selfless acts of man kind. Whether you know the recipient or not - it does not lessen the patient's need for the organ nor the family of that person's desperation for that organ to become available. As a parent I cannot imagine the desperate/helpless feeling you must have watching your child (no matter how old) go through something like that and not being able to 'make it better'. The fact that you are even considering this proves you are an extraordinary soul and evidence that there are in fact angels that walk among us. When it comes down to it.... its your body, ultimately its your decision to make for whatever reason you choose to donate or choose not to you are the one that has to live with that decision and everything comes with it. (All the good and bad) But for the record... I just want to say, ( just for even considering this donation) the world is a better place with you in it. :thankyou:
  6. I was banded on the 26th and have lost 14 lbs. (12 on the preop diet) Of course I haven't eaten squat but clear liquids since and won't til at least August 10th. (sounds of tummy grumbling in the backround)

reward for reaching my goal weight

I have hidden from the camera for 20 years. I can count on 2 hands the amount of pictures that exist of me in that time frame. So I think once I hit my goal weight... I'm going to hire a really great photographer and gather up a few cute outfits and discover my inner super model. I would tie that in to family pictures as well w/ my daughter and husband. I want to start to live my life in front of the camera as well as behind it.

    July 2011 Bandsters!

2 days post op and I'm doing pretty well. Just had a bit of won ton soup broth and I am tolerating some juice mixed with water nicely. I will probably finish one protein shake for the day. My diet is supposed to consist of 4-5 shakes a day PLUS 48-64 ozs of clear calorie free liquid consumed no faster than 2 ozs an hour. Yeah... ya'll do the math, its just NOT possible! lol... My incision sites are still pretty tender and the gas pain has reached my shoulder but honestly... its tolerable. I'm taking my pain and anti nausea meds as prescribed and slipping off to sleep about an hour later until time to take more meds. Any major amount of walking will probably have to wait for another couple of days. I just don't trust the small amounts of fluids I have been consuming in this insane southern heat. 10 minutes outside hoofing it and I would be dehydrated and on the ground so I'm not gonna push it til I am able to get more liquids in. All in all so far so good. I hope everyone else who got banded on the 26th is doing as well or better. Every tick of the clock that goes by gets us one step closer to our goal. (((Hugs))) to ALL the July Bandits!!!:welldoneclap:
  9. Is it me or does it seem like Plication with the Band is becoming the norm for new Lapband Surgeries? I know my doctor is now making that his practice and I am reading more and more are as well. How many new banders (I'd say within the last 6 months) have had this done or are having it done? Of those that ARE having it done... did you get your procedure done through a Center of Excellence? I wonder if this is something that is part of the criteria... like, "this is the way we are all going to be doing things from now on." Oh, one more question... did you have to stay overnight in the hospital with the plication/band combo? Thanks everyone for your feedback

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Well this is it! Tomorrow I'll be leaving around 7:45am for surgery. My house is clean, my stomach is empty and I just realized I missed my midnight deadline to have anything else to drink... crap. lol!

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Thank you for all the support Ladies! I'm feeling better this morning after a good night's sleep. About to get my day started with a cup of coffee then I'll be like the Tasmanian Devil running around the house cleaning everything before surgery tomorrow. I go to the hospital around noon time tomorrow which is going to be WONDERFUL. I love that I don't have to be up in the wee hours of the morning for this. I get to sleep in! lol Serifa, I am hoping for a similar NSV. Our annual Susan G, Komen Race for the Cure is in September. Last year I entered and walked the 5k as a newly diagnosed patient. This year I plan to cross the finish line running as a survivor! Best of luck to you in your quest for that 5k... you CAN do it!

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

Ok...tomorrow is my clear liquids day. Then Tuesday is 'B' day and I am beginning to feel the anxiety that everyone was talking about just before surgery. I'm ready for this and have been for a long time. I am focused on my goal and by the end of the day tomorrow my household will be ready for me to return after my hospital stay. I have had 5 surgeries in the past 11 months all related to my cancer dx so I am not afraid of surgery itself or pain of any kind, but I think its the whole 'elective' aspect that is bothering me. Those other procedures were pretty much, (not to be dramatic here) but dr recommended life and death type stuff. I think the reason I am freaking out a little is because if something happens... I CHOSE this. IDK... maybe they shouldn't let any of us preops post 2 days prior to surgery. lol! I think a lot of us reach a little bit of a panic point right around here.
  15. You can always go shopping and trying on clothes in the evening. If you have a hubby... let him watch the baby one night after dinner and go try on a few things.

    Any July 2011 Bandsters?

I'm no expert by any means, but I have had a lot of surgeries in my life and it is my experience that the drugs combined with the IV fluids you receive during and after surgery cause you to retain quite a bit of water. I'd say you are doing very well less than a week out from surgery to be sitting at only a half pound gain. (I hope I'm that lucky!) Relax...this is normal.

    Almost there

I'll also be having the Band/Plication combo

    Officially in Onederland!!

Onederland is the term used when you are no longer 200lbs... you are 199. Losing the '2' in front of your weight is ONEDERLAND! Congrats Megan!!!! I know you have to be STOKED

    Cheated(Kinda)

I've been on the liquid preop for 10 days now... getting banded the same day as you and I cheated tonight as well. I went for sushi and a couple of glasses of wine when I realized this may be my last chance to have one of my absolute favorite foods. I didn't do the "last meal" thing before I started the pre-op diet because when I found out I had to start it.. it was the very next day I had to do it. So I consider tonight my farewell to sushi dinner. lol! I hope it won't be forever... but if it is, it will be worth it the first day I can walk into Dillard's and put a pair of Miss Me jeans on this backside.
  20. MustangMama

    Almost there

I'm getting banded on Tuesday too... We'll be band Twinkies!
  21. I get banded on Tuesday and I CAN'T WAIT!!!! <insert booty dance here>
  22. MustangMama

    Much relieved!

Hmmmmmm... maybe ( if you want to) try chewing on a flavorful piece of sugarless gum. I know this has honestly been my saving grace in the pre op liquid diet. It satisfies my desire to 'chew' something while keeping me on the straight and narrow. Something to think about anyway...

    Tricare standard requirement??

I'm not sure what the requirements are. I have prime and my surgeon wrote my orders for an overnight stay as well. Not sure if that was just for paperwork reasons, a "just in case" situation or what but I will be preparing for it anyway.
  24. MustangMama

    DENIED

Congrats on the successful appeal! I have Tricare as well but I am part of the South region and I understand they are much faster with approvals than the rest of the regions. (Go figure? ...you'd think everyone would get the same service!)
