Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Good Morning Girlz- Judy - i am so sorry about your fall!! I'll bet you're really sore today. Stay off of it today, you hear me????!!! Jenn - So sorry about your aunt. I'm losing aunts and uncles at a rapid pace myself and it sure reminds us that we're getting older, too. Haydee- Glad to have you back! I never heard from Josie?! Laura - Those don't sound like small losses to me!! I took my measurements the other day, too....and only lost like 5" in 2 months! You're doing just fine...be patient with yourself. Speaking of patience....i've run out. I think i've run out of all of it: patience, motivation, enthusiasm, and hope. Not good at all. I weighed 184.6 this morning and i can't get my butt off the couch to go exercise. That voice in my head that is constantly beating me up for not doing the "right" things is so freaking annoying and it will NOT shut up. I know what I have to do-- I just can't find the motivation to do it. Same ol' me. She's back. Pisses me off like no tomorrow. The best little baby step I can think of is to count calories....haven't done that in awhile. So I'll start again today. That's all we can do, eh?...Start Again. My mom had another fall yesterday...this time in the kitchen and she hit her head and cut it open...same with her arm. She sat on the kitchen floor for about 30 mins and was finally able to crawl to her chair. Just about that time my sister called just to check in and learned what happened, and of course rushed over. Her cuts were fairly minor (no stitches) but her speech was a bit slurred. The doctor is ordering a CAT scan this morning and then they're checking her into a rehab center for 3-4 weeks. She didn't sound good at all last night and it finally hit me what it was I heard in her voice: depression and resignation. It makes me so, so sad. She's always, through hell or high water, been a ray of sunshine to everyone. -

I have every confidence in you. -

Hi Girlz! Judy - welcome back!! Can't wait to hear all about your cruise. I MISSED YOU!!! It just wasn't the same around here without you. TracyK - I LOVE LOVE LOVE your new avatar. You are beautiful!!! Gosh, remember those days way back when you were freaking out about wearing a swimsuit?? Those days are OVER! 180-something....WOW. I just can't believe it! What are you doing today? It's so nice outside! Well, yesterday I was in BEAD HEAVEN. The Houston Bead Society (yes, there is such a thing) had their annual show and it was awesome! I spent 5.5 hours hunched over tables, gawking at beautiful beads and talking to fellow addicts. I could have easily spent my life savings, but I didn't. Oh, what a fun day. They're open today too but I'm restraining myself from going back...I've got some beading to do! I fell in love with raku ceramic beads (if you have any idea what that is)....they have the most hypnotic glaze. I bought enough for 3 projects! I'll take pics when I finish one. Awesome. Ya'll have a wonderful day. KAT817 -- I MISS YOU!!!! -

Suzie - where to you live? TracyKS - My son kinda "went south" when he hit puberty...about the age of 14 for him. We went through so much turmoil for 2 years so learn from my experience: 1) Have a comprehensive history and physical done by a pediatrician 2) Have a comprehensive evaluation done by a psychologist 3) If they suggest a visit to a psychiatrist, by all means, go. There are so many things that go haywire when those hormones kick in and depression is a very real possibility. For Evan he was dx'd with bipolar disorder AND ADHD! These things were only determined after 2-3 visits to the psychologist who specialized in learning difficulties (Evan suddenly starting flunking school), then a trip to the psychiatrist. We were desperate to find answers because our child had just make a total 180 in such a short time and was in real trouble. Within 3 months of starting his medication he was back to normal....or even better!! It was a miracle....a complete miracle. But his symptoms could have easily been chalked up to just "being a teenager". Talk therapy did not help at all. It wasn't psychological pain that was causing his problems...it was a brain chemistry imbalance caused by raging hormones. His doctor expects that he will be able to come off his medications by the time he is 21 or 22. Just my two cents. Don't waste too much time. Hit the ground running! -
I can eat the meat of the orange, but not the skin around the section. I think I've had tangerines, too...but don't recall that I had a problem with those. I love clementines!

Yea you is right!!!! Very good, Laura!! Laura, you've got all the time in the world. Babies are wonderful but they change your life in ways you canNOT even imagine right now. You are on a major roll with your weight loss, you just got married, you just bought a house....give it a year or two for all the dust to settle! There's no hurry! Are you perhaps just bored? DH playing too many videos? (speaking of which....those would have to GO! lol) How old is he, anyway? Seems like i remember reading after a series of baby dreams that I had....that in dreams a baby represents your soul or your inner self. Interesting, no? Now, think again about your dream in those terms and see if it makes any sense. -

LOL....Pamela, I can tell you're feeling MUCH better!!! Happy Cut the Crap Day to all of you, too! It's already helped me make a better choice today. They had cinnammon rolls in the kitchen...right next to a basket of fruit. If it weren't CTCD I'd have stuffed that roll into my mouth pronto! ....but because it was CTCD, I chose a banana! :nervous Big damn deal, huh? LOL Welcome back, Amanda!! No fine?? Nothing?? Shrinkin' Vi's Bandiversary Blow-Out Planning Post #2: Pick the House!
TerriDoodle replied to mdrai's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I vote for Splash Mountain! #2 is Beats Workin' #3 is Ritz (for all the same reasons ya'll described) I'd suggest that we pay 100% of the house up front so that if anyone backs out, the remaining folks are stuck with the cost. -
The needle might be long, but it's very thin....and that's important! If you made it thru surgery and recovery, the fill is nothing compared to that!

Good girl, Tracy!! :clap2: Hey, I have an idea. Wanna commit to one or two days a week where junk* food is strictly prohibited?? We can do it on Tuesdays and Thursdays and give it some catchy name. (Any ideas?) *If you don't know what qualifies as junk food, just ask me!!! -

Jenn - My son had TEN teeth pulled at the same time before his braces....I was so worried!!! But he actually did very, very well and only took his pain medication because I MADE him on the first night! LOL He never took anything else after that...maybe some tylenol. He did look kinda toothless for quite some time after that!! Took forever for those permanent teeth to come in!! TRACYK - Congrats, girlfriend!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are quickly becoming a mentor yourself!! Look how well you have done....losing very steadily and quickly all along the way. I'M SO JEALOUS!!! (but very happy for you!!!) What size are you in now?? Your clothes must be huge on you! -

RECIPE, PLEASE!!!?? You can't just post something like that and NOT share the recipe! Hello??!?! Have a nice time with your family in Mexico! Try this, Pamela. Go get some frozen Tilapia filets (i get mine at Sam's). They have a very mild flavor, are thin and thaw out in about 7 minutes. Get a good garlic salt seasoning mix and throw that on the tilapia. Get your sautee pan heated to medium, throw 1 tbsp butter or olive oil in the pan, grill the fish for about 4 minutes on each side. While that's cooking, microwave some asparagus, squash, zucchini or broccoli. Top your fish with lots of fresh lemon juice, chopped artichoke hearts, capers, and/or sauteed mushrooms. VOILA!! DELICIOUS dinner in 15 minutes...maybe a total of 250-300 calories and loaded with protein and Omega 3's. -

This is from the Mayo Clinic website: Sleep apnea is considered a serious medical condition. Complications may include: Cardiovascular problems. Sudden drops in blood oxygen levels that occur during sleep apnea increase blood pressure and strain the cardiovascular system. About half of people with sleep apnea develop high blood pressure (hypertension), which raises the risk of heart failure and stroke. If there's underlying heart disease, these repeated multiple episodes of low blood oxygen (hypoxia or hypoxemia) can lead to sudden death from a cardiac event. The more severe the obstructive sleep apnea, the greater the risk for high blood pressure. In contrast, central sleep apnea usually is the result, rather than the cause, of heart disease. A study published in November 2005 in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that obstructive sleep apnea greatly increases the risk of stroke, regardless of whether a person has high blood pressure. However, effectively treating obstructive sleep apnea can lower blood pressure and the risk of other cardiovascular diseases.
Daytime fatigue. The repeated awakenings associated with sleep apnea make normal, restorative sleep impossible. People with sleep apnea often experience severe daytime drowsiness, fatigue and irritability. They may have difficulty concentrating and find themselves falling asleep at work, while watching TV or even when driving. Children and young people with sleep apnea may do poorly in school or have behavior problems.
Complications with medications and surgery. Obstructive sleep apnea also is a concern with certain medications and general anesthesia. People with sleep apnea may be more likely to experience complications following major surgery because they're prone to breathing problems, especially when sedated and lying on their backs. Before you have surgery, tell your doctor that you have sleep apnea. Undiagnosed sleep apnea is especially risky in this situation. Sleep-deprived partners. Loud snoring can keep those around you from getting good rest and eventually disrupt your relationships. It's not uncommon for a bed partner to sleep in another room, or even on another floor of the house, to be able to sleep. Many bed partners of people who snore are sleep deprived as well. People with obstructive and central sleep apneas may also complain of memory problems, morning headaches, mood swings or feelings of depression, a need to urinate frequently at night (nocturia), and impotence. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may be more prevalent in people with sleep apnea. Children with untreated sleep apnea may be hyperactive and may be diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). -
