Shrink'n Violets TIP 'O THE DAY!!
TerriDoodle replied to Teachlady's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
"Anything you know you forget. It's all about getting confused and getting unconfused." That's a piece of wisdom from Buddhist teacher Sylvia Boorstein to remind us that we're only human. Are you treating yourself kindly today? You may mess up or forget. When you do, your task is to hold yourself in love, not shame. You and I are human beings dealing with the challenges of growth. When you treat yourself with kindness, you can try again with greater wisdom for having faltered. --M.J. Ryan -
Hi everyone, Tracy, I'm so glad Frank is doing better. I can't even imagine how frightened you must have been! Jenn, I'll be thinking of you and your gram. Hope you're doing ok. I'm still feeling pretty blue...think it's a combination of many things...you all know what they are. So I'm not talking so much lately but I am checking in to read 3-4x a day. Love to you all .... XOXOXO

I am fighting so hard not to slip into depression and disgust about NOT losing weight. I just spent some time on the B&A thread and it usually inspires me. Today it just made me jealous and sad. I'm gonna go hit the showers. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Well, Mom was supposed to be at my sister's this weekend, freeing me up to do other stuff. HOWEVER, they put her in the hospital last night because of her anemia....so looks like I will be there....babysitting the nurses to make sure they do their *$^#! job! Denise....I wish you were here!!!
-
Ok, then.... let's see who is up for a real challenge? It's the weekend. Who can get thru a Saturday without cheating one time? No junk food whatsoever? I vow not to eat any crap today!!! Who isi with me??? LAURA - I don't care how much that ice cream cost....go throw it away right now!!!! NOW!! Go do it!

Laura, I seriously doubt there is much they can do for you at the doctors office.... you have the flu. It's a virus and they can't give you any kind of pill for that! Just call and ask what you should be taking. Try some Thera-flu tea? Hot tea with honey and lemon? Chicken soup is a good bet. Just lots and lots of fluids, ok? It will help to keep that gunk flowing out of your head and chest. Mucinex is an expectorant...it loosens the congestion in your chest, that's all. You need a decongestant for your head and Tylenol for your aches and pains...or children's Motrin would be even better. Oh, and Chloroseptic for your sore throat.

I remember a "tip" I once read that made good sense to me...maybe it was here on LBT. You make a deal with yourself something like, "No LBT until I do 30 minutes on the <insert torture device here>." A reward for your hard work. Work, then play. In YOUR case, you could say no more "O"s until I do 30 minutes on the...." That'll get your butt motivated!!

Help! I'm so discouraged! What's wrong with me?

I agree with what everyone else has said...but would like to add that you might try going on liquids for 3-4 days. If your pouch has dilated, this is a good way to help it get back to its proper condition. -
LOL....Judy, you're a tigress!!

Websites for logging food intake

Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal Both of these are very good. -
Teachlady is part of my support group here and she turned 60 shortly after being banded. She's doing wonderfully!! It's probably best that she discuss it with her doctor since he's most familiar with her medical history. But, if she's in general good health, she is probably not prone to any more complications that the rest of us have!
-
It's not uncommon to feel heavy-duty restriction, even up to 2 weeks after a fill. Don't go for an unfill quite yet but instead stay on liquids and mushies for a few days, then move to solids very slowly and carefully...just baby your band as best you can. you know the drill. If after that time you are having trouble getting solid food to stay down, then by all means call your doctor.

Pammy - I just remembered something FUNNY. Wayyyy back when we were just a few days post op you came on the board and asked about pain you were having during the big "O"....that you'd just had about 7 in a row and your port was hurting! LOL I thought to myself....Man, this chick is some kind of FREAK! In reality, of course, I was just incredibly jealous!!

amount of food-before 1st fill?
TerriDoodle replied to Lindypie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3-5 baby spoons per meal??? Is he crazy? A person can't live on that?! Aren't you starving? Sorry. I am just blown away sometimes by the conservative orders of some surgeons. If you're dizzy it's probably because of a lack of nutrition, anemia and/or dehydration. Are you tracking calories? You should at least be getting 800-1200 a day. Don't see how in the world you can get that on 9 babyspoons of food a day. As for your rate of loss, you are doing wonderfully...you should be averaging 1-2 pounds a week at this stage. Your nurse is irresponsible if she is comparing you to other patients...not cool. Spend a lot of time on this board and look around at what others are going thru. Then talk to your doctor and ask a lot of questions. -
Hi Everyone. I just got in from handing off my mother to my sister for the weekend. YEA! I already miss her though  Right before we left the house my sis got a call from Mom's doctor saying her bloodwork came back showing that she was severely anemic and should go to the hospital for a blood transfusion tomorrow! No wonder she's been feeling so bad!! Poor baby! The big Q is why is she anemic? Her gums are bleeding tonight too. Have the feeling she's got some internal bleeding somewhere. Not good. I took her off her blood thinners untiil we have more answers. Keep her in your prayers, please. Wow....Laura must really be down! We haven't heard from her all day! (((Laura))) TracyKS - Congrats on being a model bandster!! I'm proud of you! I did fairly well today too. Hey! I LOVE the PB/Chocolate Oh Yeah wafers!! YUMMMMM!!! They don't hold me long enough for a meal though. speaking of which...wanted to pass along to you guys that the other day I tried an instant black bean soup (that you just add hot water to then let rest). It was very good, had like 18g protein, 12g fiber and about 150 calories....and it held me for 3-4 hours! I was shocked. I only had about 1/2 of it for a snack but it held me well. I'm gonna get more of that to keep in my desk. Ya'll have a great night...and sleep tight.

That's easy!! Velveeta, Rotel and Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage! Jenn - I am really, really excited for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe we should all bombard him with emails demanding that he give you the job. What's his address? :frown: Laura - you sick?? :frown: I'm being a very good bandster. Really! I am!!

Exactly what i mean, Laura

I think I'm going to buy some nice "luncheon plates"....y'know...a little bigger than a saucer, not as big as a dinner plate? A saucer just looks stupid at the table...like i'm a baby or something. Buying a nice set of luncheon plates...just for me...is a good idea for me. it's just like with the 100 calorie bags. Limiting your portions from the start at least gives you a place to pause and decide if you really, really want to get more. 90% of the time I'll decide against it. yeah, I like the idea of new plates. Know just where to go, too.... Haydee & Laura - So sorry you guys are sick!! Man, that flu bug is sure getting around! I haven't had the flu since I was a teenager! I get a shot every year...guess that helps. jane - What about Prilosec? my mom takes that and it's just one pill every morning. Seems better than taking 8!!

When we think about changing something in ourselves, it can feel overwhelming. But in truth, our entire lives are constructed of the minute-by-minute choices we're making, many of which we're not even aware of. If you're having trouble sticking to your resolution, for a day, try this practice: when you're doing the bad old thing, stop and say, "I'm choosing to: eat this Twinkie, not work out, stay at the office to finish this project, blow up, look at my email rather than clean my desk, etc. Do you like yourself when you make this choice? You can choose differently, moment to moment. The next day, make the positive choice visible to yourself: I'm choosing to throw this catalog away rather than go on a spending spree; I'm choosing to take a few calming breaths before speaking; I'm choosing to get my taxes done today rather than wait till April 14th. The more you focus on the positive choice you can make this very day, without worrying about forever, the more you will live yourself into the new habit. --M.J. Ryan
