Banded Nov 06 - New Here
TerriDoodle replied to WahooMommy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thank you for confirming for me that I am doing the right thing by getting an unfill on Tuesday! I, too, have been living on cheese, milkshakes, crackers ....and oatmeal! I am so tired of fighting my band at every meal...and ready to eat healthy foods once again! I plan to start by celebrating with some pan grilled tilapia and steamed asparagus! Cheers and best of luck to you!! PS - I havent lost in 6 months or so!! -
Good guess!! But no...... COCONUT RUM and pineapple juice! Yummmmmm. Thanks to TracyinKS I have a new favorite summertime drink! I just won't think about the carbs...

Post-op pain... HELP
TerriDoodle replied to agatom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, yeah... that doesn't surprise me. It's probably just the swelling. It will get better in a couple of days. I distinctly remember on Day 6 waking up thinking, "WOW! I feel soooo much better today!"....almost back to normal. Just hang in there for a little while longer! -
I was making my grocery list this morning....and can you guess what is at the very top of the list??? Anyone???
-
I can take teeny tiny bites of watermelon and am OK with it. I can't have a SLAB of it like I used to though!!! LOL Maybe I'll just have to substitute with Pina Coladas instead. tee hee...

Post-op pain... HELP
TerriDoodle replied to agatom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, also...the pain when you take deep breaths...means you need to do some breathing exercises. Your doctor should have told you to do these! Breathe in and out very, very deeply and slowly for about 10 minutes every 2 hours. You'll find this helps immensely!! -
This is exactly what is happening with me, too, Blue! I'm too tight to enjoy healthy foods and have been subsisting on all forms of cheese, tortilla chips and ice cream!! It's an insidious thing, too.... I mean you wake up one day and get real about what you've been eating and think, "How did I get here?" I've got a strong nutrition background and know for a fact that I cannot be healthy on this junk I've been eating!! I'm going for a slight unfill on Tuesday to help me get back on track. I want to be able to enjoy my favorite summer fruits of canteloupe and watermelon! I miss salads and chicken!! PS - As far as the 'daily treat' thing....those 100 calorie packs are GREAT because they give you a stopping point to pause and decide if you really want more. The answer is almost always no! I recommend them!

Post-op pain... HELP
TerriDoodle replied to agatom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure you've heard it before (I hope!) but take Gas-x as much as the label will allow....what is it, like 4x a day? Take it regularly! And walk, walk, walk several times a day! The two points of pain that lingered the longest for me were definitely the shoulder/gas pain (about 4-5 days) and port pain (4 weeks). So this is to be expected. Remember - don't lift anything heavier than 10# for 4-6 weeks! (or whatever your doctor ordered) That will cause your port to start hurting all over again! -
Oh, good suggestion, Kelly! I forgot about the breathing exercises! I found those to be VERY important and something you don't hear people talking about a whole lot here. If your doctor didn't give you instructions and a spirometer to use, then what you need to do is breathe in and out as deeply as you can, for about 10 minutes, every two hours. You will find it helps SO much.

Who's making your crazy? Rick?? LOL What, trying to get you to rest and take it easy? I'm sure that's no easy task!!! I'm glad to hear your report from the doctor that everything is going as expected. Where can I get one of those pain bolus thingies??? :rolleyes2:
-
Could you describe the pain more specifically? That might help.... Is it constant or come and go? Localized or spread out? What makes it better or worse?
-
:cursing: Meeeeeeee!!!
-
It's hard to breathe, isn't it? And when you're scared your DYING it's pretty hard to relax! But those are the two things that help me the most. If I can, I go lay down. The first time I ever had one of these things I was 19 years old! I was on all 4s gripping my chest and breathlessly telling my mom to call 911! She blew me off!!! LOL Moms are wise.

That is NOT an esophageal spasm....that is being "stuck". I promise, you'll know the difference when you feel it!!! No way you could continue eating with one of these suckers!

No, that's what being STUCK feels like. This is more like the "White Hot Iron meat Cleaver from Dallas"....LOL (I'm from Houston, can you tell?) ---------------------------------------------------- (Dallas folk: I"m j/k!! All Texans are good Texans! Don't come after me with one of your meat cleavers, now!)
