    1st fill today!

yes, I had pretty good restriction after my 1st fill...and my second....but both went away within a week or two. This third fill of mine seems to be holding well, but it was pretty darn tight for a couple of weeks!

    Changing the way you eat

Yes, for the most part it is true. I just had enchiladas the other night and I'm pretty tight right now. I do have my problem foods, such as eggs and white chicken, but I have learned to find other foods I like! I'm now a tilapia lover -- who woulda thought? Really, it has not been a big concern for me at all. But I can think of more than a few posts where people were upset by their now-"limited" choices. My belief is that these people only liked 5 different dishes and now 3 have been taken away...or something like that. They're not willing to try something new !! So what I say to you is that you won't have problems as long as you are willing to expand your horizons IN CASE it turns out you are unable to eat a FEW of your favorite foods. Only you know YOU. I thought it would be pretty difficult to give up soft drinks. Haven't missed them one little bit. I miss the convenience of sandwiches, but not the taste.

Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Tracy! I'm so proud of you!! My favorite way to eat broccoli is just with butter, lemon and salt. Must have lemon. You are just being a model Violet! Has anyone ever had that broccoli/raisin salad?? Oh my that's so yummy. I've always wanted to make that. Here's the recipe: <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="99%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #dddd9d 2px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 10px; BORDER-TOP: #eeeece 1px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 10px; FONT-SIZE: 18px; BORDER-LEFT: #eeeece 1px solid; COLOR: #8caa9e" noWrap align=left bgColor=#ffffcc>BROCCOLI - BACON - RAISIN SALAD</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #eeeece 1px solid"> </TD></TR><TR><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #dddd9d 2px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 20px; PADDING-LEFT: 20px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 20px; BORDER-LEFT: #eeeece 1px solid; PADDING-TOP: 20px; BORDER-BOTTOM: #dddd9d 2px solid" bgColor=#ffffcc colSpan=2><!----><!--BROCCOLI - BACON - RAISIN SALAD--> 1 bunch fresh broccoli, washed, drained, broken into flowerettes 1/2 c. chopped onion 1 lb. bacon fried crisp, drained, and crumbled 1/2 c. hulled sunflower seeds 1/2 c. raisins DRESSING: 3/4 c. mayonnaise 1/4 c. sugar 2 tbsp. vinegar Combine salad ingredients together in large bowl; set aside. Combine dressing ingredients together thoroughly. Pour dressing over salad ingredients; stir to blend. Serve chilled. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Of course, good little Violets would reduce the calories and fat by reducing the amt. of bacon, using light mayo and Splenda....but I'm tellin' ya, this is good!

Isn't that just the CUTEST THING!!!???!?!?! Awww!!!
  5. I love my gym for the variety it offers because I get bored easily. I also have been working with a trainer and that is the best thing I have done for myself (after the band, of course)! It's all pretty expensive ($180/mo) but I spent that on food before and this is a much better investment.

    Any good ideas??

I never was much into tapes, but the "Walk Away The Pounds" series is pretty good....the chatter gets kinda old after awhile though.

Good Morning Everyone! I slept like a log last night ... felt great. Did you think of me???? :eyebrows: GOOD!!:whip: (and WAY TO GO on that weight loss, girlfriend!! Way to go!!! ) YIKES!! Is she always like that? Michelle - OR......you could just blow it all off and make it a ME Day. I vote for that. Kat - I'll try to see the Dr. on Thursday. It's real busy at my office now and he's almost a 2 hour round trip. I'm not worried about the mark, I just want to know what it IS!!! So glad to hear about Kinsey. How is DD now?

Great, Denise!! Now....remember....take it slow. Especially with risky foods (high Fiber, fresh veggies, meats, etc) take a bite or two and then WAIT to see how it does. Go really slow between bites until you KNOW it's ok. Trust me on this. And remember...things can change at any time! You may find that you get more restriction over the next few days and then it may ease up again. It's a whole different ball game with real good restriction and you do have to be careful to avoid sliming. What you ate today may not be ok tomorrow but will be ok again in a week. It's crazy. Tracy - If you look that good after push mowing your lawn, then you DESERVE to post that picture in your signature!! You are just so cute and you have beautiful eyes! Where is Laura? I thought she was back???! Guess now that she's a sophisticated married lady she doesn't need us anymore. Or did she go on a honeymoon somewhere...after Vegas? Wonder how Sara is doing. I'm pooped. G'night all.
  10. The cardio that I do the most is the Elliptical Cross-Trainer (the one where you work your arms as well as legs) and the stationary cycle. My question has to do with the 'calculator' on each of these machines. If I do 20 mins on the X-trainer I'm sweating pretty good and it says I've burned about 200 calories. Then I move over to the cycle and do another 20 minutes. I sweat my TAIL off on that thing...it's dripping off me like crazy...and the machine says I'm burning about 100 calories. I don't get it. Isn't sweat a measure of how hard you are working? I keep my HR about the same for both but the cycle sure feels like I'm working HARD but burning 1/2 the calories as the elliptical?? Something just doesn't seem right. Any ideas?

Let's say Cafe Express if you don't mind. I never get to eat there and it's one of my favorite spots! Plus, they have lots of healthy choices. Escalante, not so much. Oh Goody! This will be fun! Sorry to you other violets. We'll take pics, ok? Will that help? And we'll try NOT to have any fun and we DEFINITELY won't talk about any of YOU! OK? :lie:

What is this weird spot near my port scar?

Thanks, Lynn. The nurse was mystified. She asked me to come in on Thursday (Dr. Spivak is on vacation 'til then). So I"ll report back after my visit with him.
  13. Exactly. I always hated fish but I had to keep searching for one I liked so I could eat that -- so full of Protein and low in fat! So now I'm a tilapia freak. I eat that with a nice salad, with a oil & vinegar dressing...YUM! One think about being banded, it has taught me to appreciate the food I AM putting in my mouth and to savor every bite. Like Helen said, you're just going to have to broaden your horizons....which is probably a good thing!

    Question: Elliptical vs. Cycle

My heart rate is the measure of my effort....not the size of my muscles, right? And my heart rate is the same on each machine. It's the amount of SWEAT that seems to increase with the cycle! I think losingjusme is right....I think it's the machine that isn't measuring my HR correctly or something! No matter. It's all good as long as I'm sweating and can still talk!

Yeah, in Body for Life they allow one "free day" per week where you can stuff yourself silly if you want to. I tend to agree with that as well and I seem to bump up my calories on the weekend when I'm spending more time out and about. You might give it a try over the next month and see what happens. I've even been known to have a milkshake to get mine up! Woo hoo! Jenn, I only work one muscle group per week! I do legs and abs on Mon., Triceps and Back on Wed., Biceps and chest on Saturday. (Body for Life is the same basic schedule). The other days I'm strictly doing cardio. My trainer did say that you can't over-work the abs so you can do those anytime.

What is this weird spot near my port scar?

Oh, believe me....I appreciate your thoughts!! It makes sense to me that it's the Omnipaque....I just hope that it isn't the kind of leak that requires a new band!! I would not be happy about that! Thanks for your time!
  17. I had my 3rd fill 12 days ago. My restriction seems to be getting tighter and tighter as days go by. I feel like I have been babying it by staying on mushies as best I can, but I do try solids from time to time. I've had many slime attacks and a couple of PB's. </p> <p> </p> <p>Is it too early to consider an unfill? Is there a chance it will loosen up on its own SOON? Thanks in advance for your help!!

I don't think it's time to worry, Jenn. If it persists then it's time to worry. Small amounts in the stool are common due to the tearing that Jen is talking about. Ulcers cause the stool to be like "tar" I believe....the blood is older having gone thru the entire GI system.

What is this weird spot near my port scar?

Well, I had the fill on June 24 so I would think it would have shown up before now. (?) She did have to shoot twice to hit the port. I don't have a leak that I'm aware of, but the 1st saline fill sure did go away. Second one was with omnipaque and it held.

Here ya go... I found it a bit tricky and just blew it off. Obviously many aren't quite as idiotic as I am. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f5/how-get-ticker-your-signature-16218/
  21. I'm sorry....haven't you heard?? Rice is one of the top 3 no-no's!! I haven't even let it touch my lips because I've heard it so many times....it is one of the impossible foods!! Right up there with bread, Pasta, dry meats and eggs.

What weight for regular size clothing??

I hit this milestone just yesterday and I am so thrilled I can't even put it into words!!!!! I hate fat lady stores!!!!!!!!! I'm 5'6.5", 192# and bought a size 16 in Ralph Lauren NON-stretch jeans. I don't like my clothes tight or loose.... just a good fit. In tops I'm wearing about a size XL or 14. I also got nicely into my old size 14 swimsuits today.

Hang around this wonderful board for awhile. I can't imagine how the support you get from any group could be any better than this place. Besides, it's open 24/7!!! Welcome!

2.5 weeks post op - new pain

I seem to remember having intermittent pain ...sharp twinges....until about 4 weeks out. The gas takes quite a while to leave your system so it could just be that. Or you may have irritated some sutures doing too much. It's probably alright but just remember to take it easy for another couple of weeks even though you feel you can do more.

    Having second thoughts

I've had to give up a few foods that I loved as well, but the trade-off for me has certainly been worth it. Maybe it is not for you. But jeez....go to any grocery store or look in any cookbook and look at all the foods out there! For me it was just a matter of finding some NEW favorites. As far as your weight loss goes, It seems good to me! 15# in two months (for old ladies like us) isn't so bad at all! You didn't have that much to lose to begin with, so you can't compare yourself fairly to those that have 100+ to lose. Besides, it is what it is...don't fight it. Relax and enjoy the ride. Find new foods that work for you and give this band a chance. It's way to early to be having regrets. That's my $0.02.
