Introducing Jess... just Jess!
dlflightgirl replied to Just Jess's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jess. I just got the sleeve done 2weeks ago today. I live in No. Va. so I'm not to far from you. I've been one of the lucky ones as I've no complications. I had it done in costa rica on a Tuesday. Wed I was out of the hospital. I took no pain pills after Thursday, then took a flt home on Sunday. I had taken an extra 3 days off but I really didn't need it. Provided I don't lift anything I'm feeling fantastic and I've already lost 20 pounds. Do you research to be comfortable with your decision. I'm hear if you have specific questions on the early stages. -

5 days post op - AND HUNGRY!!!!!!!!
dlflightgirl replied to newmefeb8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the same day as you and haven't had any difficulties. I do get hungry however rice water works great as wellas sf jello. I've just started sf pudding and added protein mixed into it to get my proteins. For the first time today I had butternut bisque and felt full after a few spoonfuls. Finally! I hope you get to feeling better. Good luck. -

I take a b-12 from puritans pride and love it. You put it under your tounge and it taste like grape. I love the fact that it just dissolves and taste great. I just ordered some more today since they have special sale. I highly recommend it. -

I quit smoking 3days before surgery. I've been so preoccupied with the surgery I haven't had a chance to think about cigs. It's now been 2 weeks and I've only cheated once. Good luck and I wish you the best. -
What to say at work?
dlflightgirl replied to brazcan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Today was my first day back at work after surgery. Day 9 for me and I lost 24 ibs. I haven't hide it at all and when people ask why I tell them the truth. I was starting to become diabetic and my health was getting much worse a lot quicker. I decided to pay out of pocket rather than weight for my life to take a turn for the worse and then have insurance cover it. This was simply the best choice for me and I don't regret it yet. -
Hey all. I'm 7 days post op with directions to drink only 1 once every 20min. At first this was fine however now I'm so thirsty I'm drinking more than what the Dr. recommended. what's the norm for 7days out. I'm still on clear liquids and for the next 7days can only add jello and yogurt.

How much to drink?
dlflightgirl replied to dlflightgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thx all. My hubby was making me feel guilty cause I was drinking more than recommended. -
Hey all. Had my surgery in Costa Rica with Dr. Quesada. He is really conservative and after eight years has only 5 percent of folks who have complications. I have to say I don't even feel like I had surgery. My surgery was not until 5 pm at night this past Tuesday. My doctor told me the more I walked the better. Once I got to my room the hospital had me on IV and some pain meds. It was all drip so no button for me to push. I have say my chest felt like I was having a heart attack and my blood pressure was though the roof at 192. However I felt well enough to walk around the hospital several times that night and the next. The next morning they put me on liquids. Rice water, Gatorade, and water with broth was the only things I've been allowed to have. By 4pm the doctor released me and gave me a breathing exercise to do ten times once every hour. I'm supposed to drink 20 mls every 20 minutes. The first day was a little rough since my chest was so tight and I'd walk around tons at the medical retreat I'm staying at. That night my poor husband had to help me up several times so I could walk around and relieve gas. The hospital bed at the retreat really made a difference. The next day we walked I to the local town and back and I stopped taking the tylonol the Dr. Prescribed (nothing major for me). On Thursday we went down town to the museums and walked around for 4 hours. I hide my drain in my clothes and acted like it wasn't even there. Everyone is shocked by how well I'm doing. The day before the surgery I was 330 pounds and now it's only Saturday and I've lost a total of 15 pounds so far. I get the drain taken out tomorrow and fly back home to VA.

I wasn't able to find a lot of information regarding the sleeve in costa rica so I took a leap in faith. The web site health escape hooked me up with a doctor and medical retreat and things have worked out great. The bonus was I was able to find you tube videos of my doctor actually doing the surgery. I have to admit you need to do a lot of research on your own and be self motivated. If you didn't ask they were not forth coming with a lot of information. However I've had no complications so far. If anyone else has had the sleeve done in CR. I am curious to know where and how much and what the experience was for you. Thx

best surgery/outcome for bigger people
dlflightgirl replied to doggz109's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I suggest you keep researching to find the best answer for you. I spent a lot of time on google looking for complications and lifestyle changes before making my decision. My original thought was to get the lap band but the thought of going to a doctor to get fills through a port and paying each time made it an easy no. Since I was getting the surgery done in costa rica a mini gastric was available to me as well however the U.S. Association of bariatric and metabolism something or another stated it wasn't a safe procedure. I had never heard of the sleeve before and there is no long range stats so I spent time on the forums and reading before going for it. I'm only four days out so i can tell you the long range for me however my doctor was amazing. I only spent 1 night in the hospital and have felt no pain which is good as the doctor only gave me tylonol for the pain but I don't even need it. I am taking an anti inflammation pill and a antibiotic since I had a gall bladder infection before the surgery. Other than that I've already lost 15 pounds and feeling great. I'm looking forward to the life style changed I want to make and I've always wanted to run a marathon so I'm making that my goal. good luck whatever u decide. -
The Good and The Bad so far....
dlflightgirl replied to Mike1981's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Speedy recovery. I had my operation done on Tuesday and feel great. I actually slept all last night and I haven't been on any pain meds since the hospital. My doctor said the more I walk the better. I went for a 4 hour walk around a museum yesterday with lost of chances to sit if I needed to. My drain will be taken out tomorrow but I believe it's ready to come out today, since nothing else is coming out. I don't know if my doc is just that good or that the rosary I recited actually helped. Lol Good luck with the pain and I hope everything works out for you. -
Vomiting & Unable to Get/Keep Liquids Down
dlflightgirl replied to NikkiRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
16-20oz an hour seem too much to me. My surg is very conservative with and has me drinking 2oz every 20 min only. I've had no problems at all. Good luck. -

OMG! Probably not the best thing to read the night before my surgery. But thanks for the story. I'm praying for the no pain and glad to hear your doing so well. -
Hey all, Getting the Sleeve done in Costa Rica in a week. I'm a lot excited and a little scared. I'll have tons of support as my husband and parents will be traveling with me. I'm not sure if it's for support or they are using me as a reason to visit that beautiful country. J/K. I'm a little worried as I was not given any diet to try before surgery. I'll keep you updated as much as I can. Surgery set for Feb 8th.
