    5 Days Post Op Issues

I'm so sorry you are having such a rough experience!!! I had surgery the same day. I'm also having a bit of a rough time. I had a hernia repaired and I think that must be what is causing the pain in the esophagus. I was giving similar meds you were given. But I can tell you that I see positive change day to day. The first couple of days I thought I was crazy to do this. Losing weight was the last thing on my mind. I just felt like I needed to recouperate my health. My husband kept reminding me that it had only been a couple of days from MAJOR surgery. I realized that to me, because I felt so lousy, a day or two felt like an eternity. When I got things in perspective I could see that a couple of weeks of healing is very much in order and that indeed the body repairs and repairs and works its magic. So hang in there. I bet you'll be feeling better and better by the hour and definitely by the day. Most likely next week at this time you will be a whole lot stronger. Someone told me that it all passes. Even if you end up needing fluids, you get them and your done. Your body will take over. I hope this is helpfull to you. Sending lots of positive thoughts and energy your way for a speedy recovery. Be well!!!!!
  2. Hello guys! I too was sleeved 6/6 at 7am! Going throught the same thing. I'm also experiencing this sense of "disgust" with anything I try to swallow - except for popsicles, which tend to sooth my sour stomach. I was also told by MD this is completely normal, stomach is becoming accustomed to size and that it will subside. I was also precribed an anti nausea med. Initially it didn't look like I would need it but now I need to take it every 6 hours. Of course the acid reducer and, I was told, little, tiny sips. Good luck with this phase guys!!!!
  3. Hi Everyone!!! A am now sleeved!!!! Surgery was 6/6 7am. The first day in the hospital was rough, I will admit. . I had a substantial hiatal hernia so there was a little more pain. Yesterday was the second day and wasn't allowed to go home till after 10pm. MD wanted to be sure I was pushing fluids and... sorry.... passing gas. The hospital staff kept saying that they were nosy and wanted ot know! LOL The care was outstanding. I also had /have quite a bit of Nausea. Got home last night around midnight. Hubby went out to a 24 hour pharmacy to get me pain meds. They could not dispense them at the hospital. I have alegies to morphine and vicoden so they prescribed demerol & percocet. Any way, popped one of those and another med for nausea and to sleep I went around 1pm. Slept well and now sipping, sipping, walking ... :-) Feeling much better.Thank you all so much for your support, ideas, and kind words leading up to my surgery. I'll keep posting and reading your progress as well!!!! MNB PS: sorry if this is a bit sloppy. I'm still a little loopy from these meds :-) Thank you all again!!!!

    Restrictive Lung Disease???

I don't have this exact problem but I have cold induced asthma. It's rare that it flares up. I have to be doing an open water swim in the bay... then I need some puffs. But the MD was sitll very interested and mostly they just monitored it. I took my inhaler to hospital and then they brought in a specialiste every few hours to have me take some puffs. I think they just want to be very cautious which I think it's a good thing. In terms of results, once you have the test done, they can fax results asap! The MD's nurse gets on them for you if they drag thier feet. Hang tight. Don't despair. They are just being carefull! Best of luck with your journey!!!

    How supportive is/was your spouse

Perhaps you need to leave the room or step out until he's done with his meal. Just letting him know this is really hard for right now, it may change later, and I need to (go to another room, step away, etc.) As someone said, if he doesn't know it's really hurting you, he may not know how to respond. I don't think you're a brat!!! You're just trying to do your best with this new tool and your brain and body are both trying to figure things out. Best of luck to you. Hope you can work something out with hubby!

Thank you sooooo much everyone!!! I appreciate the encouragement. I've been sipping away and moving around and went on a few short walks. I'm starting to feel a bit tired (it's expected of course) so I haven't posted too much. But I keep coming to the board each chance I get. Thank again for the support. You guys are ROCK STARS!!! :-) xoxoxo

    THE BIG DAY IS TOMORROW

I just had my surgery Monday at 7am. YES, I was starving on the pre-op LOL But I got through it and so will you. Before surgery I was having lots of anxiety and kept thinking "do really need to to this?" "Am I really doing this" Up to the moment they put in my IV I was thinking I should bolt. Luckily I learned from all the wonderful people on this board that every one has some type of these feelings and thoughts. I can through great. I had a substancial hiatal hernia my surgeon repaired so there may have been a little more pain. But everyon at the hospital, md, nurses. kept saying tomorrow will be much better. AND IT WAS. I think I got into a state of disbelief, did I really do this? (BTW another common experience I learned on this board) But it is quite amanzing how in just 24 to 48 hours you are yourself. I don't feel like much has happend except for the little incision pain and .. sorry... gas! :-) Well, and only being able to drink a few ounces at a time. Best of luck. I'm sure you'll do great. I 'll tell you what a great nurse told me at the hospital when I was having a little trouble getting some fluids in "if others can do it, you can do it too, you will do it" That really helped. It got through the wooziness of the meds! PS: say bye bye to the hunger! :-) Post op I just feel fine!

    WELCOME Gym Rats!!!

Hi Jax! I was given a similar time frame by my MD. He also told me to definitely walk immediately but not too far or too fast at first, but definitely walk often. I am concerned about loosing my rythm/routine as far as exercise goes. But the walking will help keep me moving and to have a goal to work toward daily/weekly. Before you know it, we'll be back at it! :-) Good luck to you!!!

    WELCOME Gym Rats!!!

Hi guys! I've gone to Spin class early in the morning, and 3 mile walk in the evening. Rain this weekend here so no bike. Tomorrow, the day before surgery, I'm going to get a good 5 mile walk in in the am. That's it! Then 6/6 at 7am I have my surgery. Then I guess I will walk as much as possible. I'll post to let everyone know what I'm doing. Good luck to all of you with your workouts!!! I look forward to reading about your progress!!!
  16. Hi guys, I'm really freaked out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Surgery is Monday 7am. Tomorrow I start two days of only clear fluids. I've been on combo of liquid shakes and 4oz lean protein and cup of vegies for dinner for the past two and a half weeks. I'm hungry and I'm scared!!!! This board is full of good info and great experiences. TODAY there appeared to be a slew of postings of bad experiences: someone that maybe have become dehydrated, someone that can't eat.... Holly Cow!!!! I got in when I got home and read this and called my husband asking him if I should cancel. I don't want to be "sick" guys. I know it's surgery and it has its issues... I am realistic.... but I don't want to screw up my life. I'm really getting freaked out!!! Are those messages a sign? I know, a little lame. But that's the state I'm in. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ride like the wind

Yes, yes, yes!!! I know what you mean!!! I had a similar experience a few years back. Went out on a ride and could not believe how it felt. Got a Trek.... and the rest of the stuff :-) ..... and been cycling ever since!!!! My husband says I always have this big great smile and when I finish an event I just beam. It's so enjoyable to me. I'm looking forward to dropping some of this weight because climbing is really rough for me. I do it! But I slow down to turtois times one hundred. People can walk faster up the hill than I can ride LOL. And I'm not kidding. One time this runner passed me up -- he was running, I was "cycling." :-) LOL!!!! I was so embarrased. But it's okay, I kicked his butt downhill . But I still like hills and my rule is "I don't walk my bike." If I have to, I stop... but I ride up. LOL Can't help myself. HAPPY RIDING!!!!!!!!! and congratulations!!!!!

  20. Hi everyone! I just wanted to post a quick hello! I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place - still figuring this board out. I joined Nor Cal at the suggestion of LilMissDiva. I'm very happy to find this group! I am scheduled for my surgery for June 6 and I'm feeling quite anxious; not as bad as last week! Thanks to all the support and guidance from this board! I hope I could return the favor some day. In the meantime, I'm still learning the ropes here and getting ready for my big date!!!!! I look forward to getting to know everyone better. I saw there was a meeting this past weekend. I'm not sure I would have been able to go that far on short notice since I'm in San Jose. But I will definitely make an effort in the future if others are scheduled. My best to everyone!!!!! MNB
  21. Samantha, Sarsar, Kelly, Candace, Sleeve 4 me!!!! You are all so sensible. Even if there are issues, they pass!!! I needed that reminder. I feel foolish now, but I knew that if I posted I would get some sensible support. Thank you all so much!!! I will keep all this in mind AND thanks for the reminder to breath!!!! :-) Thank you all again!! I know YOU KNOW how much it means. I hope I get to repay it in the future. I'll keep you all posted.
  22. Guys, I think I will post to the regular board too. I'm sorry for the doulbe posting. Just incase one of you see it there first. Thanks in advance for your support!!!!

    Our new Forum!!

I'm pretty sure I could driveto Hayward too. I don't really know how far Tracy is from San Jose, but I'm sure it's doable. I just don't have a sense of when I could do it since I don't know how well I'll feel how soon. But it's looking like you guys are trying to get a gathering a month or so. Cool! I'm sure I'll make the one after the next if I can make this next one.
  24. I'm in San Jose. I could definitely drive to Fremont or RWC or Sunnyvale as someone suggested. I believe Irene (LilMissDiva) posted some possible dates: 7/9 and 7/25 I believe. I'll be out of town 7/25 but I may be able to make the 7/9. I'm having my surgery this Monday so frankly I can't say how I will be be then. I am hoping "just fine" :-). Also, I don't mind going up north more. At some point I would love to also meet those of you up toward the Sacramento area. Sorry if am going all over the place. I'm a little stressed with my date getting closer. I may just post about this. Be well everyone!!!
