I was advised no caffeine for the first couple of weeks, then in moderation. I was told it was mostly because of the diuretic effects. Since it's quite difficult getting all the fluids in we don't want to dyhydrate with caffeine. I was told that once I can easily get my 64 oz. or more in of fluids, a cup or so would be fine. I'm not a big coffee drinker but I do enjoy green tea and it was the same guideline for me.

Day 7 - Two Strange Things - Anyone else?
mnbsleeve replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I guess I'll start by saying I AM NOT A DOCTOR :-) so I'll just post some thougthts: wondering if the lump is a little spasm??? I understand they are common rigth after surgery. I was given and anti spasm / anxiolitic just in case which I did not need. Regarding feeling winded, I had that too. I was pretty active before surgery and even thougth I am up to walking about 3 miles a day, I am ALOT slower and I get out of breath easier. I wonder if that is due to the combination anesthesia and of course the healing our bodies are doing. I am two weeks out today. Just some thoughts. I am NOT an authority on this! :-) Congratulations on your progress!!!!! -
Awesome!!!!!

Hi guys, I will be starting mushies in the next few days and I'm feeling a little nervous. I imagine choking or feeling pain. Anyone have any tips on what would be a good food to start with? Quantity? Any experiences to share? things to avoid. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. My best to all on your journeys!!!

2 nd post op day and I feel lousy!
mnbsleeve replied to KathyD49's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved 6/6. Similar experience. First few days were the toughest and I seem to get worse day three or four. I came home very late on day two. I think for me it was coming of the meds on the IV. I took antinausea meds for about 4 or 5 days and then did not need them anymore. I didn't really need pain meds except for first night home. For some reason day 5 seemed to be "magical." Everything started to turn around and steadily up. No more of the "up and down" feeling. Hang in there. It's a big surgery but it's amazing how our boddies bounce back. It's no fun but it DEFINITELY gets wayyyyyy better. MNB PS: about 10 days out I started to feel incredibly well!!! Lots of energy and just plain ol' happy! :-) Hope this happens to you!!!! -
I just left a post on you profile page. I've been thinking about you!!!! I can't believe what you're being put through. I"m so sorry. I have my fingers crossed that you get some appropriate help and answers today!!!!

I've always wanted to try zumba but I've always felt "too fat" to move like that. I see all the ladies lining up at my gym to go into class and I'm jealous LOL. Maybe now that I'm starting to drop some weight I'll get the courage!!!!! Sounds like as much fun as I thought it would be. Glad you had a good time!!!

Thank you for your post!!! You and I were sleeved on the same day! Now I'll know NOT to try that! :-) Hope you're feeling better kiddo!!!!!

I'm only two weeks out and I can tell you my experience. My energy started to go up just a few days ago. But as someone mentioned above, it is alot of work focusing on the sipping, walking, keeping track of Proteins and liquids ect. Also, you feel tired, dizzie at times. Nothing terrible, but you do seem to need to focus on yourself. I loved that I cleared the decks so that I only had to worry about recouperating. At times when I got a little stressed, I realized I had only myself to tend to and boy, it really made a difference in my state of mind as well as physcial health. It really paid off because I feel like I am over a hump. I'm feeling wonderful. Good luck to you!!!! and congratulations on your children's birthdays!!!!

I DID NOT (even once) MISS THOSE 70 LBS ON VACATION!
mnbsleeve replied to pumpkin07's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
What a wonderful post!!! Congratulations to you on this great accomplishment. Reading this post just make my day!!! -
Hi all, I'm on liquids!!! just 12 days out!!! Feel great. Getting in all my Proteins (mostly my MD approved shakes and broths with proteing - nothing fancy). I'm getting in well over 80 oz. of fluids daily. I've been loosing weight since a few days after surgery. Two days ago I went up two pounds and there I am. I'm hoping this is normal. I'd hate to be the one person on the planet that gains with a sleeve. Should I be stalling/gaining so soon?!?!? I don't feel bloated, nor that I'm retaining fluids. Any thoughts?!?!?

Oh Myrori!!! I hope this gets resolved soon! Sending lots of positive thougths your way!!!!!

Thanks for the ideas Kelly!!!

MMMMMMmmmmm!!!! Great idea!!! I'm with you on being sick and tired of broth and shakes!!!! I'll try this. I need to get more creative because it's getting to where I rather not eat. I know I can't do that but I am sooo sick of these drinks. THANK YOU so much for posting this.

You look fantastic!!! You are sooo cute!!!! Thank you for taking the time to post the pics. They're very inspiring. I can hardly wait to get to that place where you can pick up "a little something" for under ten bucks!!!!! I've always envied that. You know how they always hit you over the head for plus sizes?! Even a t-shirt!!!! Of course, not to mention looking better in the clothes. I certainly look forward to that too. You look GREAT. Keep up the good work!!!!

Long term problems or vitamin issues question
mnbsleeve replied to RebaC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Reba, I've only just had my surgery under two weeks ago so I don't know how much help I could be. But I can share that I did not have heartburn before my surgery yet, I had a hiatal hernia that my surgeon repaired during the surgery. I am on Prylosec (sp?) once per day for the next six months. I will most likely wean off after the six months are up. My surgeon told me that only about 5% of people continue with heartburn post surgery - of those who had it before surgery. He's performed well over 3,500 of these and in his practice he's not had anyone have heartburn after the surgery who did not already have it before hand. Most get better post surgery. He attributes this to the hernia repairs, which he does routinely if one is there. Regarding vitamines, I could not stomach the chewables (pun intended :-) ) after the surgery so, I am on liquid. I take a brand called Blue Bonnet. Each dose had 5 carbs but I am not concerned. They work really well, go down with no prob. Taste is a little yukky but so what? :-) I don't have difficiencies and my surgeon does not expect I will have any - barring some kind of complication etc. Currently I feel great. In fact, right around two days ago I began feeling such energy that I described it as euphoria! LOL I think my happiness and joy and hope for the future has contributed to that. I feel great though. Best of luck to you in the process. I know it can be scary!!! One more tip, the psychologist that did my eval turned out to be an incredible person who has been a wonderful source of support. He really helped me address lots of fears and concerns... better than the surgeon!!! Hope this helps a bit. Once again, good luck on your journey! -
I'm glad you are feeling well Jax!!!! Here's to a speedy recovery!!!!

Surgery is coming up and im getting COLD FEET
mnbsleeve replied to juzmejnee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Juzme! I just had my surgery on 6/6. I'm not sure if there is a way to look up my old posts. If you can locate them you will find a very similar post to yours. The people on this board really helped me through the fear and sudden doubt and later the surreal feelings of "is this really happening?" I will share what others shared with me: It would not be normal if you did not have these feelings. That made sense to me since it is a big deal, and a risk. But it is a controlled risk and a decision made with lots of thought, research, consideration of alternatives and past experiences. None of us do this on a whim nor take it lightly. But I will not lie, it was scary down to the morning of my surgery. Some one hear told me she cried ... up to the time of her surgery!!!! That helped me so much when I was getting my IV and feeling like I should bolt! LOL AT the same time I knew what I had decided was right for me!!!! It's just a scary thing. I will also admit that the day after the surgery and the day after, at moments I also questioned it. But NEVER a big regret, just those same scary thoughts. But oh, do they pass!!!! I am not quite two weeks out and I am starting to feel the benefits. Not only am I twenty pounds lighter, I suddenly feel this rush of energy and I feel so happy and encouraged and hopefull for the future. The people on this board are AWESOME!!!! I wanted to give back a little of what I was given to me. One more thing: someone told me that even when there are a few complications (in her case, she was dehydrated), it's not the end of the world, you do what you need to do and it resolves. In her case, she went in and got an IV. It gave me alot of perspective. I'm sure she won't mind me sharing it with you. Most people here do quite well and the minor complications or difficulties that come up are generally in the first week or so. Everyone is individual and has their own expeirence, of course, but most seem to turn a corner within a couple of weeks. Your feelings are totally normal. I think we've ALL been through them. It's part of the process!!! I'll say one more thing I was told: We'll save you a place on the loosers bench!!!!! You go girl!!!!!!!!!!!! -

1 week out - Jello question
mnbsleeve replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've learned here on this board that different surgeons have different approaches. I am not sure what yours specifically told you about Jello but for me, I could have it whenenver and it counts as liquids. Same as the SF popsicles. But just be carefull to go slow, just like the liquids. At one week I was still having 1 oz in 8 to 10 minutes. I never had a full jello. I had a few bites here and there. Now, not quite two weeks, I am able to have an once just in a few sips. No hassle. I have to be carefull not to drink an 8 to 10 oz drink in less than 25 minuts or so because I can just sip it right down in no time. Jello tends to fill me faster though. Hope this helps!
