    Over 400lbs

I wasn't at that weight per se at pre-op however, I want to share that my surgeon is one of the pioneers of this surgery. He's been performing the sleeve for over ten years. He mentioned that originally it was intended as the first step before the gastric bypass but his patients, many over 400 lbs for whom this two-step process was designed, did so well with the gastric sleeve, that the second part, the bypass, was unnecessary. He believes the sleeve IS the surgery of the future. He said many surgeons are performing them exclusively. For what ever it's worth. Hope it's helpful. I know many folks here can share with you practical experience. Good luck to you!!!!

    Am I being unreasonable?

I just posted today about this same issue! I just about 4 weeks out and the last two weeks are a stall!!! I thought that this early on something must be wrong. I was reassured by lots of folks who have been there that indeed this is part of the process. My surgeons office called today by chance so I had a chance to ask and again, I was told I was doing fine and to focus on my nutrition and healing. I was told our bodies go through tremendous stress and they are adapting an rearranging, that there is lots of upheaval to our hormones. I'm still stuck weight wise but I am feeling better about this situation. We have to trust the process and know that others that have posted for us have no reason to misguide us. I sure appreciate those with experience sharing what they've been through. We'll get there!!!!! Feel better soon!!!
  5. I need help from the pros out there! I'm feeling a bit discouraged and, frankly a bit concernd! I was sleeved 6/6 and will be four weeks out this monday. I have been stalled in my weight since week two! I lost about 1 1/2 earlier this week, but it came back!!! My total loss has been 25 lbs. , 10 pre-surgery and 15 since my surgery. I drink all my fluids (about 64oz. +), I am on mushies and, while I stuggle with my liquid Proteins, I am getting at 70 per day. My total calories are between 500 and 600 max. Carbs are below 20, generally closer to 10 to 12. I was very active before the surgery but now doc want's me to only walk. I am cleared for more strenuous work outs (i.e, spin, and my bike) at minimum of 4 to 6 weeks out - which is coming up. Woo hoo!!! How can this be happening? I expected to work for my weightloss and knew that at some point, like many of you, I'd have to move much more to get my one lbs. or so loss per week. But this soon? It seems many are are still loosing a bit more this early on. I know everybody is different but, like I said, I'm a little scarred because this is a lot to go through and I still have a good 90 lbs. to go!!!! Any help, suggestions, ideas and encouragement are sooooo welcomed and appreciated! Thanks inadvance guys!!! MNB
  6. You are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!! I can tell any dress would look gorgeous on you - YOU totally make the dress!!!!!! Congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals!!! You will be a beautiful bride!
  7. You're so right! I am definitely focusing on fluids and nutrition. I just thought it kinda odd at this early stage. By chance my surgeons office called a while ago to check on me and I asked about this. She told me that it's totally normal since the body has gone through much, much stress and the hormones and such are disrupted. My cycle is about a week late too! She said the same as Irene above and what you are saying. Just stick with what you're doing and it will be okay. I realized I have this ingrained fear of gaining!!! It's a learned "freak out" I guess! LOL But what the hec can my body do at this level of calories but loose?!?!? I just have to relax! Thanks so much for your post. Good luck to you and enjoy your wonderful eggs and salsa when you get to them!
  8. Definitely the larger incision was the most painfull. I assumed that is where they pulled the stomach out since the others are literally little holes! One other hurt a little more too and the others I could not even tell they were there. I did not need pain medication but a couple of weeks out I sneezed and did something that sent me back to day one! (I know, what a dork). I just used liquid tylenol. After week three there little to no pain. I feel them more if I bend down or some kind of movement. I tend to forget about them. I will be 4 weeks out monday. Everyone is different but it seems to be just a couple of weeks or so of discomfort. I think the placement of the incisions may play a role. I have seen pictures of different people's and noticed that we are not all exactly the same. I am guessing different surgeons placed them based on their technique. Good luck with the healing and your journey!

    The incredible edible egg

I have the same experience with eggs as described by others. I really like them but they do fill me up quickly and I have to eat slowly because they do seem to catch up with me. It has gotten better now the second week on mushies. For me the feeling of fullness really lasts for hours. I have to remind myself to eat or have a protein shake. It use to happen pre-surgery as well although I ate eggbeaters rather than eggs. I don't know if it's the egg per se or the pure protein that causes that feeling. I'd decribe it more like an appetitie suppresant! :-)

    4 days post op

Yes, the gas pain and the bloating are probably the worst! and of course, not really being able to drink normally. I'm just about 4 weeks out and had those thoughts of "what the hec did I do" off on on some days in the very beginning, including the hopital. But boy, things sure turn around once the swelling goes down and the healing begins and you start to feel better and more yourself. It gets so exciting. For me around day 6ish energy started to up and my drinking became normal... I just felt better. Everyone is different, of course, and we all go through it a little differently. But each phase is a process and you sure do see postive changes day to day. In my opinion, the first few days are the most challenging, then the next week or two, then it picks up. Hope your healing goes smoothly. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to reading about you progress!!!!!
  14. WOW!! Yes you can!!! Your face looks slimmer, your whole silhouette is smoother, more slender... You're looking sexy!!!! Keep up the good work and thanks for posing the pics. Very inspirational!!!

    Getting a little scared

HI Cathi, I had a lot of second thoughts before surgery. I would fluctuate between feeling confident and freaking out. People on this board helped me to see that just about everyone goes throught the sampe process. Like the other person that posted, I don't feel intense hunger or craving, but I have had some hunger. The thing is, it tends to resolve quickly. I'm just out 4 weeks on monday and I am in the mushies stage. I am ready for more "real" food BUT, I don't have that experience of gnawing hunger that won't let you think. I also don't get that super full feeling since, if you get clos,e it becomes more of a discomfort than a comfort. So I eat slowly and pay attention to my body. I'm starting to feel so normal that I noticed at times a tendency to take off eating much faster, but I stop mysel. I would have to describe this phase for me as more of "using my head" to take in nutrition. From others I know things really normalize much more as time goes on. It is a process though. I hope this somewhat helpfull to you! I can tell you that your fears and concerns are totatlly normal and very much like lots of people here. Good luck to you. We will all be rooting for you!!! PS: I hope you're checking out YouTube. There are lots of great videos from folks who describe their experiences and talk about what and how much they are eating as they progress throught the stages. Everyone is different!!! and it gives you a sense of the types of things you may experience.

    Peanutbutter balls

This is a great idea. I'm having a really hard time with the shakes and getting my protein in. I'm just about 3 1/2 weeks out. I actually was doing better early on and now I am just disgusted. Every day is a struggle. The only problem I see is that I would have to get down an entire cup of penut butter for one scoop of protein. Do you use a particular protein powder with a higher content of protein? The best I could find is Nectar and it has 23 grams of protein per scoop. Sometimes I will put a scoop and a half into 8 oz of wanter so that I can get more protein in in a single "torture session" :-)

    Size

I have no idea about this. Back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, I wore a size 6. But I haven't been out of size 20+ since.... well, since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. I'll let you know my experience with new sizing when I get there!
