    hair blues :(

What I want to know is: Does it come back?!!?!?!? I'm 5 weeks out and it already started to fall ou! It was already thinning due to thyroid issues! I saw a patient at my surgeons office yesterday who mentioned that when hers starting falling out she immediately double up on her vitamines. She had beautiful hair though so maybe it just worked for her. I really hate this part LOL!

    Back at home

Nancy, I'm glad you are home. You sound like you are doing really well. The first few days are the toughest but then things really do get better day by day. Everything you describe is just like what I went through! It's weird that it's not that long ago but it feels like it. I'm on week 5 now. Hang in there!!! It gets easier and easier!
  3. Saw my surgeon yesterday! He thinks I am doing well and that weight stall is due the difficulties I've been having with proteins of late. Although I think I'm back on track this week. He also said my body is till working to adpat and normalized. Much of what everyone here has been saying. THANK YOU all for all the support and words of encouragement!!!!!

    It's a twofer!

Congratulations Amanda!!!! You ARE a rock star!!!!!!! Enjoy this new adventure!!!!
  8. Yes, absolutely. I had exactly the same issue. I gained about 3 lbs. on week two or so. I also did get my period. In fact, I am just on week 5 and I've hit a plateau and have had up and down a couple of pounds for the last 3 weeks. Just saw my surgeon yesterday and he said low protein can do that but also that it is normal since the body is still healing and hormones are adapting. He said it will move again especially if you're doing what you are suppose to be doing. As you are able to eat/drink better you can get your protein in better too. Lots of people on this board have echoed that. So I'm just focused on nutrition, fluids and exercise and, as difficult as it is, I'm trying to let those numbers on the scale go for now. Besides, family keeps seeing me thinner ... so something good is happening :-) Hang in there!

    Sweet iced tea

Lyndy! So glad you can still enjoy it!!!! As you say, it can be a rare treat. My taste changed! I never was a big sweet person but now, just talking about sweet things sends my stomach into cartwheels!!! How strange, huh? Maybe it will change as I go forward. I am only 5 weeks out.
  10. Congratulations Julie AND Skyblew!!!!! So happy for both of you!!!!

  12. I found an informative link on bariatric surgery from a Dr. Wesley Clark in San Diego CA. It discusses risks and issues associated with WLS and how deaths are calculated as well as benefits to surgery and reasons people (both patient and surgeon alike) undertake the surgery. I thought it was interesting. Just another piece of info. Hope others find it interesting too! http://obesitysurger...litygwclark.htm

    help

My experience was/is just like KellyW74 above. (In fact, she recently gave me some suggestions to help with the gurgling.) I'm about 5 weeks out and I still get that gurgling for about an hour after I eat or drink a shake. And like Kelly said, often I get the runs shortly after. What I discovered is that anything with MILK in it is bad news!!!! Even soy milk tends to be a little troublesome. Now that I am eating soft foods I've discovered that things like fish and chicken seem to work well. I can tolerate yogurt a little better too and actualy even string cheese. No other milk products and definitely not shakes with milk in them. In the early days I had broth with unflavored protein, such as UNJURY. It's just that I am totally sick of it now :-) So, it may be that you developed a lactose intolerance - which my understanding is that it can be temporary in some cases. Also, you are more recently sleeved so things may just settle down on their own in a few more days. Like the other Kelly said above, the acid reducers are really important. I take prylosec (sp?) once per day. Also, my first week to week and a half my MD prescribled Ranglan, which is an antinausea med. That really helped in the early days too. Hang in there. It will pass. We all seem to go through these various phases but somehow move on. I guess we have to be patient and roll with the punches... as tough as it is. Good luck!!!!!! Hope you get to the bottom of this!!!

    Blood pressure 70/48

I'm glad I found this thread. I generally have low blood pressure, but a few days ago I felt very dizzy and weak. My husband thought to take my blood pressure and it was 90/62! I realize now though that because I have been struggling to get my proteins in, my fluids have also suffered. It's been at least a week now that I barely make 50 proteins, if that, and only about 32 oz. of fluids! I got some tips on this board yesterday to help with the proteins. I'm acutally on soft foods but I don't seem to be able to eat anything. I get so full and nothing goes down. I've been doing beyond great before this week. I'm not sure what's going on. I see my surgeon wed. But now at least I know that the fluids and protein are what's affecting my blood pressure etc.

    Being Treated Differently

Well said! You really summarized this well. I am sad to say I have definitely had these experiences throughout the years. BTW, it cracked me up when you were told you "didn't carry yourself like a fat person!" What?!?!? LOL In terms of the "talking fancy" that's what I mean. People assume that being fat means you must not have a good vocabulary! (among other things) Does "talking fancy" only happen when you're thin?! I experience those remarks as condescending, as being talked down to. Like Julie said, these things are sad but they do happen. It's harder when you're alone with it and no one wants to acknowledge it.
  21. Thank you so much guys! Kelly, you described it PERFECTLY!!! I appreciate your tips on the protein drinks too. I will give them a try. You may be right. I may just be intollerant to them, not just the "milk." It really helps to hear you went through this and was able to move on. I'll keep working on this. Thanks again. I really appreciate it!!!
  22. I need some help from you vets out there! I'm about 4 1/2 weeks out. I am struggling with food. I am in the soft food phase. Protein shakes are still disgusting. I get them down as best I can. I still need them to meet my minimum protein- which I have been not meeting the last week or so. When I eat, I can just tolerate a few bites. The thing is, no matter what, shakes or food, my stomach is constantly in a state of turmoil! I often get the runs right after. I seemed to be doing really well before this phase. Is it because of the soft foods? Now I don't seem to even tolerate the mushies! Like I took a step back. I see my surgeon next week and of course I will check in about this. But, I was wondering if anyone else went through this and or if they have any ideas. I am hoping it's an adjustment phase but I am feeling a little scared. Thanks for any help or suggestions!!!

    Being Treated Differently

I wanted to add something to my post above. A really healing moment for me was during my psych eval when the psychologist, without me brining this up, validated this experience. He gently let me know that I should be prepared for folks to react negatively to my weightloss (professionally speaking) since it was possible that those folks may have been dismissing me or my ideas because of my weigth and now would possibly feel threatened. He floored me with this because it's one of those things I've always kept inside (feeling dismissed) for fear of "sounding paranoid." But, I was sure was happening!

    Being Treated Differently

Yes, yes, yes! I can tell when people right me off or assume I'm an idiot because I am fat! I feel invisible most of the time and when people find out or figure out I'm a Ph.D candidate it feels like they're still trying to figure out how that could happen. Like there must must be something fishy about my job and my studies rathen than I have brains, and motivation, after all. It's one of my pet peeves and one of the BIGGEST reasons I did this surgery.
