  1. Lyndsey, I'm sorry to hear about the gallbladder but I am glad too that you got to the bottom of it. I had my gall bladder removed several years ago. I have to say that the surgery is a breeze! If you have to do it, it should not be so bad. Nothing like the sleeve. I was home literally a few hours after the procedure and I was up and waking and back to normal the next day. Of course I took it easy for a week. But I did not even feel it. Once again, glad you are well. Take care!!!!!!!

    Woke up choking on acid!!

Hi Kelly! Sorry to hear about the acid! I don't generally get heartburn, before or after surgery. However, if I get it, it will be because of spicyish foods. Also, I need several hours before I lie down, preferably doing some minor movement - i.e., around the house. Otherwise I will get that sudden acid you described that wakes you up. I hope you ommiting the taco filling works out. From the few times I've that aweful acid I know how nasty it can be. Take care! P.S. - HATE, hate, hate those damn ads. The site would not let me post for a few days and I think it may have been caused by this change!
  4. Oh Kaitlynn, I'm so sorry for everything you have been through. I cannot begin to imagine how scary this must have been and especially with two young children. Thank you for taking the time to post your story so that others may learn to push thier doctors and not be easily swayed. They are not God, afterall. I am glad you are finally on the road to recovery. It sounds like you are starting to eat more and feel better. I wish you all the best and sending positive thoughts your way for a super speedy recovery!!!!!!!

    Eating Slowly

I've struggled with this too, before and after surgery! I find that I have to stay very conscious when I eat. I mean I have to actually say: "I'm going to eat now, so pay attention" LOL I'm serious. So then I actually look at the piece of food and sometimes I have to cut it in half before I put it in my mouth because I got a way to big a bite. Then I chew a long time. But I also put down the silverware. I"ve actually done things like get up and walk to the kitchen or check on laundry etc. I don't really want to do that but I'm trying to train myself to take a longer break between bites. I found that when I do that, that first bite seems to calm everything down and then I slow way down. The biggest challenge has been in restaurants since I can't do all that crazy getting up stuff. AND since I cannot take drinks between bites to slow down. So there I am trying to take a bite and put the fork down and look at my phone, talk with whom I'm with and count two or three of their bites at least before I pick up my fork again. Sorry I don't have better suggestions. Eating way, way too fast and too much in one bite has been one of my issues. I look forward to reading ideas on how others are working with this. Thanks for your post Bryn!!!!!

    Dietician is confusing me!

I agree with others above. I would get a referral from the surgeon's office! This surgery is relatively new and those that do it really specialize. They are most knowlegeable on nutrition pre and post op. Good luck with this. It must be so frustrating!
  12. I am about 7 weeks out. At 4 weeks I was still on mushies... which was still really mostly shakes since I developed a lactose intolorance -- so cottage cheese etc. was out. Right now I can eat about 2 oz. per meal and I eat three meals a day. Sometimes I only get about an once in. I cannot finish one egg. Eggs seem to have this "appetite suppressant" type of effect. One or two bites and I can't eat for hours. So I avoid them. Most other proteins I can eat about 1 to two oz. That's it. I can usually get a bite or two of a veggie but not if I eat all protein first. I have to alternate a bit if I want veggies. Things look good but no place to put them :-) I hope this is useful.
  13. I am only 7 weeks out so my experience is limited. I can share that for me, the Protein intake has been a problem in that I developed a sensitivity to lactose and, it seems, to most shakes in general. I only found ONE that seems to work and I am sick of it. But I get it in!!!! The intolerance resulted in intestinal cramping, stomach gurgling and the runs. I also had low energy. I had the same issues with weight loss you describe. In fact, only just recently the scale moved a couple more pounds!!!!! I just focused on getting Proteins and fluids in, making sure I got my vitamines in as well. I also like juicing green vegetables in a juicer. My MD said low protein results in low to no weith loss. Slowly I turned a corner. I've read that others get these types of stalls early on and that our bodies are adjusting. People on this board have helped me stay focused and not be discouraged sharing their own similar experiences. It appears to be a normal part of the process. Possibly some of us go through this part more than others. So don't be discouraged. It 's huge adjustment and it sounds you have lots of demands on your body. You've been through alot besides the surgery with the sinus issues etc. I bet you too will turn that corner soon. Focus on good nutrition and hydration and lots of rest. Sounds like your body needs it right now. I'm sure you will get to excercise and loosing more once you are fully healed. I'm sure others on this board will offer more, experienced advise as well so stay tuned! :-) Be well. We are all rooting for you!!!!!
  14. You look beautiful!!!!! Thank you for your post AND for the sample food log. Congratulations!!!!

    The Easy Way Out

Kudos to you Kayyybeee!!!! You handled yourself with such grace!!!! I think you are right in your sense that you had a much greater impact on this person than if you had gone off on her. Hopefully she will reflect and grow and treat the next patient with the respect they deserve!!!! Like everyone on this board has already said, it's so much harder to keep your cool but you did and you stayed above it, put her in place but in a way that will give her food for thought. Way to go!!! I really respect you for this. Thanks for role modeling!!!!!

  19. Just got back from a 10 day trip. I'm so happy everything did well. I was able to get my proteins in AND the most amazing thing... I was able to eat quite a variety of food with no problems at all!!!! In very small quantities, of course. But I managed quite well right off of regular menues. I focused on proteins but had a few vegies. I am just 7 weeks out!!! I'm soooo happy. I'm feeling quite "normal."

  20. OMG!!! You look like you're 19!!!!!!!! What an awesome post!!! You look B E A U T I F U L !!!!!!!
