  1. Ok, so I've had the seminar, internal medicine intake, nutrition intake, and behavioral medicine intake. Now I am starting the weekly group meetings. I was told that I will have a follow up with the psychologist after the groups before they schedule me to meet with the surgeon. For those of you who have had the surgery or those of you who have your surgery date scheduled, how long before you had the surgery scheduled, like from the time you had your intakes to the time you had surgery? I asked everyone I met with if I will likely have the surgery by the end of this year and they all said yes. The nutritionist said not by the end of the summer but definitely by the end of the year. The focus now is to lose as much weight as I can before surgery. I have lost 9 pounds so far but I was told I'm not required to lose a certain amount. I just wanna get it over with. I am so sick of being this heavy!

    a few questions before surgery

Thanks you guys! My last intake was in June. Now I'm just doing the groups. I'd say September or October will be my surgery.

    a few questions before surgery

Wow, only a month? That's awesome!
  4. Hi everyone! I went to the seminar last month. Tomorrow is my medical intake. I faxed over all my lab results. I'm just wondering how long the appt usually lasts. Will they be taking my blood or just reviewing the records I sent? What's next? The psych eval?

    Just Getting Started

Hi everyone! I'm from Worcester, MA and am so glad there's a Mass forum on here. I just attended a seminar at UMass Medical Center. I am still waiting to hear back from the surgeon though for the nutrition intake. I'm getting anxious. I have Network Health, a part of Mass Health and was told Fallon is the best. My mom is also getting banded and has Fallon. She is already in an exercise group and behavioral classes. I'm thinking about switching because they seem to move you faster through the process. I wanna get the surgery as soon as 3 months if possible.

    Fallon Insurance

Does anyone here have Fallon Insurance or Fallon Community Health Plan? I live in Massachusetts and currently have Network Health, a part of Mass Health and they don't require a 6- month supervised diet which is great. My mother is also getting the band and has Fallon. She is moving a lot faster with the process. They put her in an exercise group and behavioral classes. I went to the seminar at UMass Medical Center a week and a half ago and the surgeon still hasn't called me to schedule the nutrition intake. Should I try to switch insurance plans? I was told I don't have to wait until open enrollment.
  7. I attended the seminar last Thursday. What's next? A nutrition intake? Then what?

    Attended seminar, what's next?

    It's not over 40, it's exactly 40.

My insurance said all I need is the BMI over 40 and doctor's authorization. I'm just worried my doctor won't authorize it. Or do they the mean the surgeon's authorization?
  10. Hi everyone! I'm new to all of this. I recently decided that I wanted the Lap Band. I have a BMI of 40 with no comorbidities. When I spoke to my insurance, they said they would cover it 100% but mentioned it must be medically necessary. What does that mean? I have no known medical conditions other than being 100 pounds overweight. Then the lady said I am not required to diet for 6 months or anything, I just need a doctor's authorization. Will the doctor most likely require that I do on a supervised diet first? I wanna get this done as soon as possible.
