    Sleeved Monday

Kelly Glad you are doing so well. Day five is definiately much better as many before have said. Here's to a wonderful 2nd week.
  2. Hi All. Thanks for the thoughts and the prayers. Surgrey went well but I found out that I do not do well on the pain meds. This was my first surgery. I had severe naseau the first 24 hours. Naseau meds didn't even touch it. Yuck. I was finally released at 9:30 last night after they stopped the pain meds and I could actually get down some Water. I couldn't wait to get home!! Getting the water down is hard. It seems like that will be all we have time to do. Someone please tell when the drinking gets easier. Dr. told me I could start thin protien shakes today. I am a little worried about that, I think I will wait a couple more days. Oh, one more thing. I hate this stupid drain. It doesn't get taken out until next Tuesday. How do you take a shower with it??

    3 days Post-Op

Thanks Kelly I am glad things went great for you. Good to know what that horrible feeling is behind my ribs. I am doing better on my liquids today. I have been able to get down 32oz plus 6oz of Isopure. It seems like the warm green tea goes down easier. However, I warmed up some broth, took one bite and through it away. My dr said not to worry about the nutrition/protien, "it's all around you, your body already has what it needs". I thought, "thanks alot".

    About to leave

Good Luck Michelle. I will be joining you at 3:00PM today. You are in my prayers.
  5. Good luck Kelly. I am right behind you, as your coming out I will be going in. You are in my prayers. Talk to you soon.
  6. Oh where do I start. Like so many before me, I am extremely excited, nervous, and SCARED. It really hit me last night as I was reading a bedtime story to my wonderful sweet 3 yr old. I choked down the remainder of his story and kissed him goodnight. I finished up some last minute chores and got into the shower where I completely lost it, sobbing and everything. I couldn't imagine the "what if something went wrong". I felt like I was being so selfish. I don't have any co-morbidities YET. Why was I taking this risk??? I reminded myself I am making this change for him. I prayed and prayed and made my peace with God. I know He is in control. So, here we are today. I leave for the hospital in 3 and half hours. I appreciate all of your prayers and will post as soon as I can. Good Luck to all of the other May 9th sleevers out there (aka The Red Velvet Gang).
  7. Meggie, I am with you. I was scared out of my mind yesterday. I made my peace with God and l leave for the hospital at noon. Good luck and I am praying for you.
  8. Hi, my name is Susan. I am so glad to have found this website. I had already decided on the sleeve but was having second (third, fourth, etc) thoughts well into the insurance approval process. The support you provide is awesome. I know I have my the right decision now. My doctor's office and support group is a good hour away so I will definitely be looking to you all for support. My journey so far....I attended my first seminar on 01/19/2011. I had pulled an 18 hour day at work the day before and almost didn't go, but so glad I did. I was committed and decided to start "dieting and working out" as well. I had my first appointment with the dr. on 02/09 and the nutrionist the following day. Well, four weeks later after many tests, pysc eval, etc., hoops for insurance company, we will finally ready to file. Took about 2 1/2 weeks and finally recieved a call on 03/21. My surgery date is 04/25/2011. It seems like forever away. My surgeon is Dr. Cywes in Jacksonville, FL. I haven't seen many posts from people in this area yet. Well, back to the "diet" part. I have lost 32 lbs so far. I have been doing the low carb diet for 6 weeks now. Although, some of my family members are saying "see, you can do it without surgery". My husband is very supportive (he would have preferred the band) but my teenage son has said several times "I really wish you wouldn't do this", he thinks it's too much risk. I understand his feelings but told him that I have to do this for me. My mom has been the most surprising. She is very excited for me and asks me all the time how things are going. So funny, I really never expected her to be so supportive. I am a little worried that since I have lost some already that my initial weight loss after surgery won't be as great as some of the success stories I have seen here. I still have 110 to go to my goal weight though. Hopefully, it will help that I won't be going through carb withdrawal during my post-op period.

    Anyone tried Mio?

I have tried two so far, the Berry & Pomegranite - loved it and the Strawberry & Watermelon is good but not as good. My teenage son prefers the Strawberry one.
  12. My voices started big time yesterday. I am scheduled May 9th and have lost 40 lbs on my own pre-op diet since February. No more than 10 minutes after I was having an indepth conversation with myself, the surgery scheduler called with my surgery time. Thank God. I am sure of my decision but will probably freak out a couple more times in the next 17 days, Good luck.

    Hospitalized

Thanks for the update. I hope you are feeling better and get to go home soon (tomorrow). Sending up prayers for you.
  15. I struggled with this but decided to just tell everyone. I figured - more support. The only person who even questioned me was my brother-in-law. Of course, this man can eat a whole cake or pie after dinner and not gain any weight. He has been a 32 -34 waist his entire adult life - UUUGHHH!! He said " Why don't you just diet and exercise?" You know, I would if I could. I just brushed him off and decided not to share my amazing journey with him. Anyway, last week I saw him and again he asked if was still going through with it even though I was doing so well on my pre-op diet. I said "of course". I explained that I had lost weight before and was not able to keep it off and this was only a tool. I still had to work to get the weight off. He said "good point". I was shocked. Now I have another supporter. I got word last week that people at my old job had gotten word of my upcoming surgery. At first, I was a little taken back, but then decided. This is great. My life is finally interesting enough for someone to talk about it. Good luck with your decision. I think however the more support (and accountability) you have, the better your success will be.

    Today is the BIG day

Good Luck. You are in there right now. How exciting.
  18. LOL, I had to google it the other day. Glad to see I wasn't theonly one.
  19. Looks like we are about at the same place. I have lost 32 lbs pre-op so far. I am just now getting to where my 24's are a little loose. However, I joke that the 32 lbs was lost between my shoulders and belt line. I have noticed a significant difference in my tops. I understand the frustration though. I just had to postpone my surgery two weeks because of travel for work. Now I have to wait until May 9th. Ugghhhh!!
  20. I saw a product on amazon with really good reviews called PB2 - Powered Peanut Butter. I haven't tried it yet but it is supposed to be almost as good with 85% less calories and fat. I found a store locally that sells it so I am going to try to get by there this weekend. This would be great to add to protien shakes instead of the real thing. http://www.bellplantation.com/
  21. Thanks. Yes, there should be a fridge and microwave.
  22. Hi All. I just found out that I will have to travel across the country (Florida to California) for work right after my surgery. I will be traveling out on my 14th day post-op and will be out there for 5 days. I really don't want to have to postpone my surgery. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions?
  23. Congrats!! I can't wait to be there. Keep up the good work.
  24. Thanks Vanessa. It will be great to have someone who is at the same point in process.
