  1. Congrats on your new sleeve. You are doing great so far. As everyone has already said, it really does get better. I was sleeved on 05/09 and still had the real hunger afterwards. It's getting better everyday and I noticed yesterday that I only got a slightly empty feeling. Also, once I ate my mushies, I felt full for many many hours afterwards. It really does change from a living to eat mentality to a eating to live. Right now, it's been about 12 hours since my last Protein shake and I have no hunger at all. Good luck and remember to take it easy. You just had major surgery.
  2. Sorry to hear this. I had to switch 5 days prior to surgery because my original surgeon was no longer doing surgeries at my required Center of Excellence hospital. I spoke to Aetna and they said it was not a problem, they just needed to change the surgeon on the paperwork. However, my new surgeon was in the same practice. I would say don't worry. If you met the medical necessity requirements once, that hasn't changed.

    Cankles

    Awesome!!!!
  5. Ok - I asked my dr and his response was if it's hurts don't do it. Not the answer I was looking for. Come on, give me a time period where it would be safe to try without the rish of hurting myself. So...my husband has been hinting around about wanting some bedroom time. How long did you wait after your surgery?? I am only two weeks out and don't think I am quite ready.

    Started pureed food

Hi Kelly. So sorry you had issues with the chicken salad. Maybe try some egg salad with extra mayo. My tummy has handled the chicken and the egg so far. I haven't pushed it though, a 1/4 cup (or less) and I am done. I feel I could eat more, I just don't. It's crazy how diff the diets are. My dr. would have a fit if I ate mashed potatos. He didn't even want me having creamed Soups because of the carbs.

    First mini goal met!

Wow, less than a month from surgery and already in Onederland. That is awesome. Keep up the great work.

    Day 14

HI Kerry. Yes, I am still having energy issues as well. I did increase my Protein drinks from 3 to 4 times a day. The extra protein has helped some. However, we have to remember we just had major surgery. Even though our bodies all react differently, we need time to recover. I am hoping the energy level will increase this week when we get mushies.

    2 Weeks Out Today!!

Yeah Kelly!! So glad you are feeling better and doing so great. My Dr. had said I could start with some mushies. I have had a spoonful of chicken salad, egg salad and cottage cheese so far with no problems. It was great to have something that was not sweet tasting since I was advised to stay away from soups and full liquids consisted mostly of Protein shakes and a couple things of yogurt for me. My nut gave me a recipe for Mock Mashed Potatoes made with califlower. I can't wait to try this tomorrow.

    Cotton Mouth!?!?!

I am 14 days out and have the same issue. I am getting at least 64oz in a day but wake up with a horrible dry mouth. Last night, I drank 24oz of ice water right before I went to bed. This morning, it was a little better but still dry.
  11. I moved through the process and approved by both on my insurance companies in three months. I was fully sure of my decision until the last day. The day before and the day of my surgery were horrible with doubts. I even asked my husband if it was too late while I was in the OR Prep area with IV and all ready to go. I had lost 43 lbs on my pre-op diet, even though I had almost 100 more to go, I figured there was no need to take the risk. For me, the key was, sure I could lose the weight but how would I keep it off. Will power is great but will only take you so far. I won't lie to you. The first week afterwards was pure hell. Not pain wise, but mentally. I thought I had prepared myself fully. I had given up carbs for 3 months, I could do this. I hadn't. The constant sipping was tidious to say the least. I thought, how in the world am I ever going to live a "normal life again". I thought WTH have I done to myself, how could I be so stupid to make this choice. I even admitted this to my husband who was sceptical at first. To my surprise, he just reminded me that I had majory surgery and it would get better. As many on here say, it really does get better every day. Here I am at day 14, I feel almost normal. I still get a little tired each day but I also returned to work (desk job) after only one week. I am down 15.4 lbs since surgery. And....I am so glad I stayed my course. I do not regret my decision at all. It's scary but it so worth it.

    Mushies

Hi Kelly, I agree, this so confusing. My Dr. said I could start experimenting with mushies a spoonful at a time. While my nutritionist said anything should be the consistency of baby food - no chewing required.
  14. So true. I sit here now with my 3 yr olds teddy bear in my lap. He brings me a stuffed animal to "Make me feel better" everytime I have I to remind him to be careful of Mommy's boo-boo's on her tummy.

    NEED YOUR HELP

Kelly, I am right there with you. No energy. I was just released to full liquids yesterday. I am drinking three Protein to four drinks a day. I do the pre-packaged EAS Carb Advantage (17g protein and 4 carbs) that I get at Sam's right now and usually add in one mixed from powder that has a little more protein. Last night I did have a sf pudding cup. Heavenly!! Over the weekend, I am going to try the thinned out refried Beans with greek yogurt and cheese.

WTH did I do to myself

Absolutely!! I am day 9 post-op and it really does get better soon. I appear to be one of those unfortunates that still feel hungary. Even with that, it is much, much better than the first week. I thought I was prepared. I had given up carbs and had been following a pretty strict diet pre-op. But if you are like me, sitting home resting with the TV on, you are constantly being shown TV food commercials. It was horrible. All I wanted was pizza. I had to turn off the TV when I saw a dog food commerical where they were slicing steak and veggies and I thought "Man that looks good". LOL, I knew I had hit the limit. Hang in there.

    Off Work

I had surgery on Monday 05/09 and went back to work yesterday (desk job). I have been exhausted both days and needed to take a nap. Today, I literally gave out at 3:00pm. I think it will really depend on whether you are still on pain meds and how stressful your job is. Good Luck.
  19. Hi Emily. I am doing much better. Thanks for checking up on me. I saw your post after the surgery but couldn't find it using my android phone in the hospital.

Surgery went perfect, I had a problem with the pain meds that caused an extra day in hospital. First fews days were horrible. Got better Day 5, now Day 8, even better. Got the drain out today. YEAH!! And moved to...

  20. I had my surgery the same day. This morning I called it "Glorious Day 8". It's so funny, day 5 was good, but day 8 is so much better. I had my 1st post-op appt today and was moved to full liquids. I had a sf pudding tonight and it was heavenly. We will get there! I returned to work yesterday but have been exhausted both days and needed a nap to make it through.

    Are these things Normal??

Hang in there. I was sleeved on May 9th. It really does get better soon. Day 5 was a definite turning point for me. And now, on glorious Day 8, I feel almost normal. I too have the hunger pains and not just head hunger. I have found it is best to drink through them. I hope they will soon go away. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better soon.

    Tough Topic

I was sleeved on Monday 05/09. I have a teenager who knew what I was doing and strongly opposed it. I also have a three year old. For my teenager, I told him I had to do this for me. I asked him, if something happened to please stay close to his brother. He told me that if something happened, he was going to be mad. I told him that was ok. He is strong and getting ready to graduate, so I knew he would be ok. For my little one, I struggled. I didn't say anything, even on the way to hospital, I just told him I had to go to the doctor. I had thought about it since I made my decision but it really hit me the night before surgery. I completely lost it while trying to read him a bedtime story. I managed to choke down tears and kiss him good night. I made it to my bedroom and broke down into sobs. The thought of him having to grown up without me and ask his daddy "where's mommy", just tore me to pieces. I prayed to God for peace. I was reminded that I was doing this for him, so I could be around to watch him graduate, get married and have kids of his own. And so that he doesn't have the burden of caring for a very sick parent (like I currently do for my mom). Of course, I lost it again after I dropped him off at a good friend's house on the way to the hospital. My husband reassured me that I had done everything I could to make sure there was the best outcome as possible. For me, in the end, I had to put my trust in God and know that He is in control. Good luck.

    Tomorrow is the day

Good luck. Sending prayers up for all of you now.
  25. I am 5 days post op today and can just take normal sips today. Before today, I had been drinking 1 oz cups of water in about 10 minutes. I didn't realize the drinking would be so hard and time consuming. This being said, you would be able to drink the 1 TBSP but it would probably take you several minutes and tiny, tiny, sips.
