Everyone really is different. The worst part for me was the extreme nausea caused by the morphine. Once they got me off the morphine pump and onto meds via the IV, I was must better. The nausea was causing dry heaves for me and that was extremely painful. It ended up causing another night in the hospital for me. The other bad part for me was day 3-5 at home. I thought I would go crazy with the tiny sips all day long. No break trying to get my fluids in. I thought I would never be able to have a normal life again with all my effort concentrated on drinking. Thankfully, this improved drastically on day 5.

Awesome. I can't wait to join you. I went to Old Navy yesterday and tried on a XXL top and it was TOO BIG. What an awesome feeling.

Discouraged and disappointed

Try not to worry about. Although easier said than done. As of today, I have lost 62 lbs and I am still wearing my same bottoms. They are finally getting a little loose. I had to break down a buy a couple of t-shirts because my 3X ones looked like a tent on me. I have also lost from the top down. We will get there. -
I use fatsecret on my andriod phone. It tracks food, exercise, and weigh ins.

Am I blowing my chances???
susnl replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was sleeved 4 weeks ago. I hit the stall around around day 18. I spoke with nutrionist last week and she recommended trying to get most of my Protein from food rather than the shakes. I decreased my shakes to one per day and increased my Water. I also made sure I was getting less than 30g of carbs a day. It worked, last last week, the scale started moving again. Try tuna salad. I am not a big tuna fan but it has a bunch of protein in a 1/4 cup serving. Good luck. -
Thanks for sharing. I will have to try this. Wow on the DD, I wouldn't have even thought twice about that one before the sleeve.

Lol, I am the same way. Thankfully no problem with drinking now but I feel like I have to burp. I was never a "burper" before sugery.
-
Hi Eddie - please give us an update when you can. Hopefully you are getting some IV fluids now. Warm fluids worked better for me as well. However, I tried using splenda - bad choice for me. It gave me really painful gas which it had never done pre-op.

Just Starting Out! Questions... :)
susnl replied to fattymcfatterson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats on your new Journey. I will be 40 in January and was sleeved three weeks ago. As for your questions, everyone is different. So, the taco soup would work for the full liquids stage as long as your new tummy can handle it. I have not had any problems with tomato based items. However, some programs advise waiting on these. For the cream based soups, again it based on your program. My doctor wanted me to stay as far away from these as possible due to the carb content. This is the same for the fruit smoothies, they are really high in carbs. My plan is to stay under 30g of carbs per day. I see many people on here with 40-50 a day but this is still low with little to no room for fruit and fruit flavored yogurt. There are some strawberry and other flavored Protein powders out there. Again, taste preference is different for everyone. So try to find some you can stomach now. My plan suggests ones with over 20g of protein and less than 8g of carbs. My doctor staples, oversewed, and glued my stomach. He doesn't like to chance leaks. From what I understand the staples are titanium (they look shiny in the pictures) and will long outlast us. The stomach disection was on the side, well inside so you don't see of feel anything. I can barely even see some of my incisions at three and a half weeks out. Funny enough this were the size of a regular office staple. lol. These were glued and covered with steristrips. My doctor even gave me pictures of the surgery in progress and the disected part of the stomach. The normal sleeve removes 85% of the stomach. Some surgeons remove a little less. You can ask what size bougie your surgeon normally uses. I have seen on here, they range for 32 ro 44. But, essentially your stomach is about the size and shape of a banana. Good luck and this is a great journey. -

First day back to work

Yeah!! I am glad it went well for you yesterday. -
I was in the hospital for two nights due to extreme nausea from the pain meds. I work from home on the computer as well. I returned to work after one week. However, I did stop and take a nap that first week back due to lack of energy. I was extremely grateful for that option. Good Luck.

Still Pre-Op Going for Job Interview Thursday
susnl replied to imawhodat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do not say anything. It will most likely take a week for an offer. Then with background screening and typical HR paperwork, it could take at least another week. You can negotiate your start date, they do not need to know. You will be well on your road to recovery by your first day. Good Luck. -
Hi Kim. I was sleeved on 5/09 as well. I think you need to talk to your doctor. I didn't have much pain at all, only discomfort the first week or so. I didn't take any pain meds after I left the hospital. Now, I only get a little pain when I move really fast in an odd direction, for instance turning over in bed or today, crossing my legs in the other direction and my jean capris rubbed the incision where my drain was. As for the stall, I too have not lost anything in the past week. I have actually have gained a pound or two. Good luck and call your doctor about your pain. It never hurts to ask. Trust me, I called about my drain site and didn't like the first answer so I called again and sent pictures. I got the same answer, but felt much better afterwards.

What kind of help needed after surgery
susnl replied to mjs6172's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same story here as Kelly. The only thing I asked my husband to do for me was to help me up out of the recliner a few times (slept in it the first few nights). Good luck. -
3 Weeks Post Op and Not Just a Stall...
susnl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so frustrated right now. I am 21 days post op today and I have gained 1.2 lbs this last week. This is so frustrating because 1) I have been eating approx 1/4 cup of mushies maybe twice a day with very low carbs - no mashed potatoes, no creamed Soups, less than 30g a day total including Protein drinks and 2) because I was consistently averaging 2-3 lbs a week pre-op. Friday, I called my nut because I was at my witts end because I was up over 2lbs. She assured me that it was just Water retention and since my body had lost so much the first two weeks it needed to stabilize itself. She suggested to try to eat more protein instead of the shakes. Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to get it going again? -

Need help and advise...
susnl replied to TheNewMe11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in exactly the same spot as you. I feel your pain and frustration. I was sleeved on 05/09 and had lost 15.4 as of 05/21. Then over the past 7 days, I have gained 1.2lbs. Gained!! I am follwing my plan, carbs < 30 a day, I was on 1/4 cup of mushies and not even doing those three times a day. I wasn't expected the stall until this week. I had come out today to get some help, but this seems it is the norm now. So, I will up my Water intake to over 64oz a day. Also, try to eat more Protein instead of drink. Good Luck. We can do this. -
4 MONTHS POST OP TODAY AND DOWN 68 LBS
susnl replied to Godsfavoraintfair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats!! That is awesome. -
Yes, lovely water weight. I gained after surgery but was down all the water weight plus 11.5 lbs by 8 days out. However, I am dealing with it again this week. I called nutritionist on Friday because I had actually gained a pound this week (week 2-3). She assured my it was just fluid retention and I had dropped over 15lbs in the first two weeks, my body was just catching up. Good luck.

My doctor says coffee is not a problem. I started with my one cup in the morning at two weeks. Now, I don't make mine very strong at all.

Oh, I just made the ricotta bake for lunch. It was heavenly. Of course, now my tummy is singing to me.

how long will i need help with my kids post-op?
susnl replied to valentine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my goodness. That's a haul even without having surgery. I was sleeved on 05/09 and pain was not really an issue for me. I didn't even use the liquid pain meds after I left the hospital. However, I do have an almost 4 yr old and at almost three weeks out, I don't know if I would try flying half way across country with only one child much less two. My biggest thing is energy, I still get tired. Also, I am trying really hard to make sure I don't pick up anything heavy. My dr. said it's really not an issue but I would rather be safe than sorry. With a one year old, I would be concerned about having to lift and carry, causing undue strain on your body. Is there anyone who can fly with you to help with the kids?
