Ate a lot of soup tonight! Uh oh? Ok? Not sure? Help!
amjcal replied to RedheadGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hunger is really kicking in finally. I feel that is I drank 3/4 of a Protein drink (chocolate Peanut Butter flavor with banana baby food) in the morning I have a more productive day! Yesterday I was only able to eat 1/8 of creamy chicken, 7 bites if spinach dip ( well chewed) my post op instructions say anything that can through a straw, so my friend tested the spinach dip through the straw LOL!! Anyways I drabk 1/4 of a skinny margarita and 1 small Bloody Mary (yummy!) I had no problems, of course I drank tons of Water too. So my response to this post is I am able to get more down, day by day. The other night I got down a 3/4 can of cream of broccoli mixed with skim milk no problem and I was a little worried too! I am 9 days out and finally feeling better. So I think it is all part of our life changing journey! -
Day 7 post OP and not feeling much restriction or fullness tonight...
amjcal replied to RedheadGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post op and it takes me an hour to get down 4oz of a protein drink. I feel hungry, then slow sips and then when I am satisfied I stop and save the rest for later. I try not to eat until I am full, because after feeling satisfied about 30 minutes later I feel very full, I have been on liquids and blended cream soups, still have no desire for food, even when I am cooking for my kids. But I can only get down 4oz at the most at a time. Is this normal? -
I have no desire for food at all. I have had a little sugar free Jello which seems to work for me. The broth 5 teaspoons and that ended up a run to the bathroom. I am not vomiting, just spitting up the saliva before you vomit and then I am okay? Is anyone else having this problem? I drank 4 oz or so of a protein drink and that went down okay, The dr suggested tomato juice, because of the high protein and that ended up to another run to the restroom. Ice chips and small very small drinks of water are all I can handle. Is what I am experiencing normal, or should I call the doctor?

July 2011 Bandsters!
amjcal replied to lifeisjustbeginning2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery on Friday. The hospital experience was great. As for the pain not so good, been having problems sleeping even after the pain meds. It hurts the worst getting in and out of bed. I have been sipping on water and ice chips, until this morning I had a couple of small bites of Jello. I took pain meds last night with a few sips of skim milk, because the nausea is terrible. In fact I fell like vomiting several times, I can't vomit just the saliva built up in your mouth before you vomit is coming up and then I feel okay. I have suppositories for nausea that are really helping as well. Along with the liquid loratab, Ice on stomach has really helped with the pain, and today it only hurts to get up and down. I tried chicken broth last night (better than bullion) which is very good! I had 5 teaspoons and that was all I could get down. The gas hurts only when laying down in bed. Yesterday which was day 2 I went to the Walmart and walked around to get the gas out which helped a lot. Walking and doing everything very slowly is the key for me. During pre op stage I was so mentally hungry, after surgery I am no longer mentally hungry or really even hungry at all, I can not feel my port which is weird and my stomach is supper swollen and numb around the largert incision, I am so happy I made this decision, just wish the recovery was a little bit more on my side. -
I was banded yesterday, and I can't feel my port. Is this b/c my tummy is so swollen? Also the nurse in pre op said she was going to give me heparin to prevent clotting, however my friend and I don't remember me getting it. Should I be concerned? Also around my biggest incision it is numb? Is this normal? Thanks

What to expect at psych visit
amjcal replied to ms.lady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sent several papers in the mail, all questionnaires, I was asked to bring them to appointment ( I think one had like 300+ questions). He took the papers when I arrived, then we talked. He wanted to know what I knew about the lap band, what I expected, why i wanted, and when did I get to the point did I decided I want to do proceed. Then we talked about being successful and the people who aren't and why, then he told me about support groups and I was on my merry way. There was my visit in a nutshell. Good Luck! -
I love the charm idea as well and I like the ones at Kay Jewler's, Just thgught I would share. Getting closer to surgery I have a couple of days left!!

I am so thrilled you are all treeating yourself for your success. To be honest it never really crossed my mind that I should reward myself for my hard work. I know I have shared my feelings with my husband, friends and family, but I feel no who really has an any idea how much of a big deal this is for me to not be overweight, because it has been a constant battle my entire life, beginning in 3rd grade when I started counting calories. I am excited , but no one is excited for me and I think that is where I am having the most difficulty so far, I think I am going to think of something to reward myself. Thanks everyone for the en lighting!

Tricare Prime - Lap Band Denied Again, Again, And Again!
amjcal replied to AZArmyWife36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think you should go to a different surgeon in your area maybe they are submitting the paper work in correctly. Its worth a try. I have a high BMI with no co-morbidity's. I was approved the next day the problem was the refferal and the surgeon a complete mix up is why they denied me at first. I would seriously go to a different surgeon to make sure the paper work is submitted correctly before you pay out of pocket. We love are soldiers and it sounds like he is very supportive, my husband is too!! I wish you the best of luck! -
Ladies and suggestions??? I get so hungry when I am PMSing. Today I tried to stay busy, but I sit at work and that is when it really kicks in! Is there any suggestions on how to get past this, during the pre op and the post op ? Any suggestions will be helpful.

When I had my psych evaluation, he told me one of the hardest problems people face is the new reactions they get. People are not used to get looked at in a positive way, and when that changes all of the sudden it is sometimes hard to take in.. At least that is what the psychologist said. Not only this might be hard for you, it is also probably hard for your husband to know there are other men looking at you lustfully. Just some food for thought. Congrats on your success!!

I like unjury ordered online! They have an unflavored and I can mix it with low sugar items like pineapple mango great value drink mix and it tastes so good!! Plus if you add ice or Yogurt (fat free) it makes the shake like a milkshake and goes down slower makes you fuller faster!! So the unflavored gives you so many options . I have fortress shakes from Wal-mart Peanut Butter chocolate they are great too!! I mix all with 6-8oz of fat free milk or Water..

The Great Value drink mixes at Wal Mart have a pineapple- mango and they contain stevia, only 3 grams and not artificial sugar. This was a great discovery for me , b/c Splenda and Nutrasweet and most sugar free items give me a headache.. The other thing I would add to the list is a magic bullet! I love it and when you are done mixing you can use the cup to drink the shake. It is fast and easy and I think it will be perfect my mushie stage!! Also Multi- Vitamins and Iron if you are still of age to get your period. What a wonderful idea!! YOu go girl!!

Thanks Kay. I really need some stern support !! I am not allowed any food at all. Just shakes. You are very fortunate to have such a doable diet, I wish you the best and hope we can support each other!

How long did you have to wait...
amjcal replied to sassyfrass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once I got the referral to the surgeon that I wanted, I was approved the next day. The referral process took the longest because there is a dip@#** working as office manager at my PCM office. So to answer your question I have Tricare and I was approved overnight! -
WOW! What a great idea! Buy the bikini and put it on the fridge!! I am very surprised my surgeon has said nothing about me quitting smoking~~ Of course I have tried several times. And been successful for short period of times, but now that I will have the band as a tool to lose weight, I think I will be able to quit smoking without the biggest fear of gaining more weight. Because let's face it , last time I quit I gained 30lbs! Yikes! No more gaining for us July Banders we are on our way to losing and more losing. If anyone wants to be a band buddy that would be great I really need some support with this pre op diet! Thanks

MY doctor requires this as well!!
