    Triathlon Nsv!

Congratulations! Which one are you doing? I'm looking for my next tri myself.
  2. This was just a rustic whole wheat with a crunchy natural Peanut Butter and homemade blackberry jam with Splenda. The ride was just over 6 hours so it really wasn't all that much food if you look that I burned 4,500 calories for the ride, You hike was pretty spectacular I have to admit. That's not an insignificant climb espcially over a 3.2 miles. That's a 13.4% incline. That's hard!
  3. Chocolate milk is supposed to be good but it can he hard for some people. Anything with electrolytes, like G2, would be good. Also, oranges are easy to carry in a baggie and bananas are good also. I wouldn't worry about it too much except to say make sure you have more than less. For my 100K bike ride, I consumed 1 PB&J sandwich, 1 orange, 1 1/2 bananas, 3 Gel shots, 3 Red Vines and 3 liters of fluids. That was for a 3,000 foot elevation gain over the first 50K.
  4. I think you already knowbthe answer. Start with the Boot Camp and go back to square one. Five days of liquid only and start back on the road that made you successful. You can do this!
  5. Be very careful here. It is very easy to get dehydrated. Your sense of smell and taste buds will return but you have to stay hydrated.

    Frustrated!

I haven't had any Achilles issues, which is amazing since a torn Achilles ended my college football experience before it really got started. I did recently have had some rotator cuff issues in my shoulder which held up my triathlon training. I have 3 sports to train for so it did allow me to focus on the others. Weight training / core training is really good for you though and should still benefit you in running.

    Is Apple Juice Bad?

I would agree that leaning towards no-calories drinks can cause you to not have any energy. However, most of us have food addictions and since we can't go cold turkey on food, I try to always counsel people that if you can avoid calories through your choices, your chances of success increase. The sleeve is not a guarantee and we have to make lifestyle changes to succeed. Some people can handle the exceptions and some can't.
  8. Yep, Pdxman helped me through this issue. I just finished a 100K bike ride today and did a triathlon last weekend. In the week before a race or very heavy workout, I up my carb intake to between 200-400, depending on the distance. Then during the race or event, you have continue with carbs every 45 minutes. In a 5K, where it a run will usually take less than 45 minutes, you don;t have to do this but it's important to take in carbs as part of the healing process also.
  9. Rode a Metric Century (100K) Bike Ride in San Diego this weekend after doing a triathlon last weekend. Who is this person who likes exercise? :-)

  10. So it was actually a good thing she had the sleeve and had a couple of problems? They might not have seen this until it was too late. She is in my prayers. I wish her a speedy recovery.
  11. I'm assuming when you say you are 6 weeks out, you meant 4-24-12 and not 2011?
  12. I'm at maintenance and I'm 16 months out. Sure you'll be able eat more but the surgery is a tool to prevent you from over eating or eating too fast. You can still eat the wrong things (sliders they are called) that won't bother you but it's usually a good thing to have this stopper in place.
  13. That can happen, especially at your stage. Try eating half of that amount, waiting 15-30 minutes and then eating the other half. It's probably too much for your stomach to take at once so let it process it and then finish it later. This is our new self-regulator
  14. I went the same route, same doctor as both of you. I had ALL the tests done here in the US just because it wasn't required in Mexico. My doctor wanted to be sure before he sent me away. Although I was self-pay, my insurance company did pay for the tests here and my doctor fully supported me going to Mexico to save my life. Oh, and nothing wrong here :-)

    16 Mos Out...disappointed

It just goes to show you that there is no one right answer. The right answer is the one that works for each of us. Just have to keep trying things and mixing it up.
  16. One trigger for nausea is in fact your stomach saying you should eat something. Try a little something, even broth, and see if that helps.

    What Workout Attire

Also compression tights, shorts, shirts, etc., help a lot at that stage.

    16 Mos Out...disappointed

I agree the jerky is a good way to go. Fruit and vegetables, while important, should be a low second on the list to Protein. Protein is so much denser and takes longer to process. 2,000 calories? Really? That's a huge amount considering everything. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've exceed 2,000 calories and I do triathlon training, burning 1,500 to 5,000 calories per workout 5 days a week. It sounds like the food addiction still has ahold of you.
  19. Do your taste buds go back to normal? Yes, and no. There are a few things I just don't like anymore but for the most part, I can eat everything, just in small portions.

    Difficulties In Training For Triathlons?

Oh, and be prepared for the costs . Between the swimming, biking and running equipment, there are USAT fees, race registration fees, club fees, wetsuits, etc. Its really worth it though. You don't need a really expensive bikes to start with, for example. Just start with a simple road ride ($200 or so) and get used to it. See if you want to do it before investing a lot of money in the sport. I found that it is kind of addictive.

Not Sure I Can Do This

Most all of us suffer from food addicition and this is why we choose this route. Who else would have 85% of their stomach removed to save their lives? This is a 12 step program in a way. We just try to get through one day at a time until we learn the habits we need to lead a happy life. You will make steps forward and steps back. But remember that you are trying to save your life. It will get easier, I promise.
  22. Any liquid is good liquid. Crystal Light is fine if it's easier for you. It was for me.
  23. PR'd my swim and bike this morning in the triathlon but the run kicked my butt, as I expected. Still all in all, it was fun. 4th in my age division.

How Slow Should I Be Eating?

Need some more information. Where are you timeframe-wise post-op? is it everytime? What are you eating? Are you tracking everything you are eating? Are you drinking while eating?
