It's early in the process and there are plenty of options. I don't know why I go to the worst place first. Reading up on it has given me a better feeling that even in the worst case, I might just be able to scale back some and work through it.

So I went to the doctor today for my regular follow-up care visit and found I have begun to develop an enlarged heart from exercising. They ran a bunch of blood tests and an EKG on me to see whether I can continue or not. The doctor seemed to think that I would be OK to continue but I might need more frequent monitoring. Have to wait a week for the results and this week will be long because of that. I don't want to have to give this up.

Probably 15 months or so. I mainly run as part of my triathlon training but I'm starting to do more races. Started out with 5Ks, then moved up to the longer runs. I'm not real fast but it seems like my endurance is pretty good.

Must be a good day for running. New PR for me in the half marathon, 2:03. Still had a little something in the tank at the end.

Here's a little something to toss out... anybody else have 'runner's toe' or what I see as black or removed toenails? As I increased my miles, I've got some some of the ugliest toe nails around, which I show with great pride.

Nice morning to get out for a run today so I headed out. Lower 60's on the way to maybe 70 later. I'm really trying to work on my pacing. When I get into a race longer than 5K, I tend to try to run it at the 5K pace (which for me is about 8:30 - 9 mile pace). Slowed it down today and it felt really comfortable. 8.9 miles in 1:30. When you are older (like me) I don't have the endurance or speed of the younger runners physically but I still think I can do it mentally. Pacing is going to be my new motto...

Just do what you can. If begins with one step. Put some headphones on and listen to some music and make it about "me" time. Even if it just starts with walks.

Restricted list means that it is allowed but if its found in excess (I'm not sure exactly what that level is) you can be subjected to disqualification, assuming you are one of those subjected to peeing in a cup.

I went back to work basically on day 5. I was sleeved on a Monday evening, and jumped on a cross-country flight on Sunday to be a client's site on Monday. I was tired during the week but I plowed through it. Just plan on having little moments where you zone out :-)

Caffeine is on the list of restricted performance enhancers. Research has suggested that a dose of 2 mg of caffeine per kg of bodyweight before competition is the minimum amount required to produce an enhancement of performance. A dose three times larger—6 mg/kg—is believed to represent the ceiling of benefit. If you take any more than that, you’ll get no additional performance enhancement.

Like you said, it could depend on the weather. Currently I like my running tights but when it gets warmer, I still use anything with compression. I find the jarring on my body to be real bad without compression clothing. For the most part, anything spandex seems better for me. After 26.2 miles on Sunday, my body feels pretty much normal and I wore all spandex.

I've always believed that running clears the mind and gives one time to think while listening to your breathing. That's a perfect atmosphere for building discipline.

Excellent point!

Has anyone tried the Tracy Anderson Method?
massindex replied to Sassafras's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I knew someone who went on it and suffered dizziness and fainting spells before she quit it. The food discipline required, which is very strict and unchanging, is not for everyone. It also required 2 hours of workout per day so if that is not something you are up to doing, don't go with this latest fad out there. -

Question about drain incision, please?

Same here, about a week to ten days. It was still a little puffy when I pulled my stitches out. -
Happening too Fast
massindex replied to buffythefatslayer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will probably end up getting more here than you will from you doctors and nutritionists, in my experience. You doctor spends and average of 5 minutes with you on any given visit and your nut will spend a little more but not much. Sorry to say... -
Compression garments are great. Even at my maintenance weight (185, down from 437), I still wear them. With loose skin still, it helps retain the appearance. Go for it.

I was sleeved on a Monday and went back to work on the road the following week. I might not recommend that for everyone, though. It wasn't very easy. An extra week might have helped.

You gotta check this out!

PdxMan - Thanks for posting this. I was a lurker here on this forum for sometime before everyone's stories gave me the strength to start speaking out. The inspiration rests with this whole group. -
I haven't but I would get that checked ASAP. Could be a post-operation infection...

danyelleb - Glad you enjoyed the article. I'm not sure I'm worth more mention than any of us here, though. We all help each other so much. Here is the link to the podcast: http://www.knpr.org/son/archive/detail2.cfm?SegmentID=9672&ProgramID=2699 -
You never know. We are equally supportive of the LBGT community here. It's all about WLS...

Not here. My wife was 110% supportive.
