I had my surgery November 7 th......I was able to go to liquid puree right after surgery.....that's for week 1-2. Puree meat. Puree veges and fruits cottage cheese. Mashed potatoes. Yogurt So I'm very careful. But I am still able to start making good choices for myself.......the dietitian wanted us to get our protien from regular foods....... Weeks 3-4. Soft foods....then on to regular foods............ Hugs Laura

I forgot to ask......do they allow people like me, soon to be banded in another state attend the support meetings?

Wish I could have used DR SAnchez in abq as I live in Santa fe.......they did not take united insurance and I have to travel to Denver 5 hrs away ........funny thing is I am a nurse in Santa fe and have to travel out of state for a bariatric center of excellence.......

Nov 7 for me too......and thanks Cheri ......the wisdom of someone that has been there is so valuable.....I bought that book bandwagon. It has lots of wonderful information, and is a great read......nov is also my birthday month.....that will be a happy birthday to me.....I'm hanging with this crowd....you know birds of a feather flock together.......I'm in it for the long haul........Laura

I also have UHC buy up plan.....first the Dr must be at a center for excellence or they will not cover the lap band......The hardest part for me was the 6 months working with a nutritionist .....6months is like forever.....I went to DR Thomas Brown in Denver Co. thru pres/St Lukes......they found out all the insurance info for me and if I would be excepted.....they did some nutrition evals, psych evals.....but I have to produce 2 years of my weights, not a problem, letter from my primary care, nutrition classes one a month for 6 months. BMI over 40 or 35 and over with comorbitities , All in all it was very pleasant there, the staff is wonderful........I thought the 6 months would kill me but it is half thru...I used the time to work on the hardest of my addictions, candy ,diet sodas ,sugar......I'm excited beyond words, Thanks for this forum., Where I can see the results If you use this tool properly......the ups and downs are important to know so I know I'm not alone and the bad days will pass........hugs Laura

I actually have a spinal cord injury and it's hard for me to workout but I find the wii let's me get cardio even with my injury.... I'm like you trying to get everything in place before my band.......best of luck

You know I wish I was in your shoes......I have to wait until oct......but for encouragement go to you tube and watch the lap band before and after videos......just know if you follow the rules your video will be on there for my encouragement........ Hugs laura

I have united healthcare.......I also was freaking out about dropping a few lbs...it was recommended to call the nurse at the band dr and ask about that........she told me they go from the first weight at the consult........and losing a bit of weight before banding shows the insurance company you are a good candidate for the band......it would be kind of stupid to have 6 months of classes with a dietitian and not lose a pound. Hi my name is laura and i was a Critical care nurse before i had a major accident and now I have a spinal cord injury and this weight is hard to carry around. My BMI is 38-39.9 and I am wanting to try and lose 1 lb a week until surgery...thats October, If i could do it that would be 20 lbs.........has anybody been denied because they lost weight and dropped their BMI......this as been a busy time ,I've done everything but the nutrition thing for 6 months......Everyone that has to wait for a 6 month nutrition consult knows it is hard to be patient..... My problem has always been keeping the weight off.......I'm excited that as I lose weight the lap bad will work with me to keep going and keep the weight off. I want to thank all the posters here.....I have learned so much. Hugs laura
