So after researching sleeve surgery and just assuming that I didn't qualify through Kaiser because I'm a 36 BMI, I had planned on self paying and being poor. I went to my doctor today, and the bad news is I actually have high blood pressure, so she (doc) prescribed a Water pill for me. I asked her about weight loss surgery and she was all for it! She began telling me about some of her other patients who have had it with much success and no complications. She signed me up for the orientation class on May 24th and then will refer me to the surgeon. Wow, and all I had to do is ask! Woo hoo! I'm really happy!

My Kaiser PCP is going to refer me!
LisaM replied to LisaM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Woo hoo! Congrats on getting the call! It's exciting to see how quickly it's going others! How many days was it between the referral & getting the call? I'm going to be sad if it takes longer for me, lol! -
Wow, people are pathetic! You know these same people talk crap behind your back because your fat. Nobody gets what it's like to be obese and yo-yo diet your entire life, unless your in our shoes. I went through amedically supervised protein liquid diet and spent $4K on it. After losing 50 I gained it all back, so I know people are thinking or talking. I'm not telling anyone except my close friends. The rest can KMA!

Good luck!! You are so lucky, you get to have your whole life ahead of you as a thin & healthy person. I wish I would have done this a long time ago (I'm 43). -
For all of you who have gone through Kaiser to get your WLS, how long was the process from start to finish? Can you also explain how things worked from the time you went to your PCP to the surgery date? I'm confused on how things work. I'm going to go beg my PCP for a referral tomorrow morning, so wish me luck. If I get shot down, I'll just do Plan B, self pay. Thanks! Lisa

Self pay sleeve with 36 BMI no comorbidities
LisaM posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi all, will a US doctor perform a sleeve on me if I self pay, but am under 40 BMI and have no comorbidites? I'm healthy, but 90-100 lbs overweight. Just wondering if the FDA regulates doctors as to whom they can perform the surgery on. Thanks for any thoughts. Lisa -

Hi Shelly, I live in Sacramento, where are you? So you have to do a five hour orientation on top of the intro class? I thought it was just the overview class and then you get a phone consult with the surgeon. This whole thing is confusing. It's funny because when I asked my doctor how long it would take until I could get the surgery, she said it was really fast. She looked up another patient and said she referred her to the surgeon in November and she got the surgery in April. To me that seems long! But, whatever, I'll take it, since it's no cost to me! -
Self pay sleeve with 36 BMI no comorbidities
LisaM replied to LisaM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went and checked my blood pressure today and it was way up! Not good! I've had blood pressure spikes off and on the past few years but have never been officially diagnosed. But, I've made an appointment with my doc tomorrow to see if this could possibly increase my chances of getting the surgery approved through kaiser... -
Hello...My name is Cheryl

Hi Cheryl! Your title to your message sounded like an AA meeting, lol! Hi, I'm Lisa and I'm a future sleever! I have only told one person my thoughts on this, and it was another overweight friend. Nobody understands what it's like to be obese, except all of us. Welcome! Lisa -

Griselda, I'm 5'9", 245 lbs and my healthy weight should be between 135 - 165. So, I'm anywhere between 80 - 110 lbs overweight. Thanks for the info everyone! Lisa -
Heck, if your Bridesmaid dress is loose at the wedding, put safteypins inside on the hems. Tell your sister not to be a bridezilla, everything is going to be fine. Plus her wedding pictures will look nicer with a skinnier you in them!

Starting Journey with Kaiser Fremont

Hi Lynda, were you at a 38 BMI, when you were referred to have the surgery? My BMI is 36.7. I'm a Kaiser member and I'd really like to go through them, but don't know where to start. Suggestions? Lisa
