I agree with treequeen. We've all lost and gained over and over. It's not like we don't have the dieting and exercising down. We want a lifetime solution, not a quick fix. Your mom will come on board, especially once you've lost the weight.

Kaiser Richmond question - pre-surgery goal weight
LisaM posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm nervous - I have my psychologist appointment on Thursday and I'm still have between 3-5 pounds to meet my goal weight, depending on when I weigh myself and what I'm wearing. I thought I read somewhere if I'm with 5 lbs of goal weight, I would still get my surgery scheduled. Does anybody know? Thanks. -

Congrats!! That is so great! I understand being frustrated about your weight not budging. I've been hovering for 2 weeks around 242 lbs and I have to get to 240 to get my appointment with a case manager to schedule my sugery. But I know it will happen. Your body sounds like mine, you plateau, then lose big chunks of weight! Again, Congrats to you, that's very exciting! -
I would look at a Walmart Supercenter with a grocery store. Walmart is related to Sams Club, so maybe they have them.

I had a little girl at my daughters preschool come up to me and say "there's a baby in your tummy". I guess when you wear fat babydoll tops that look like maternity clothes you get that...I laughed it off too. What can you say to a child? They just say it like it is! :-)

Kaiser Richmond question - pre-surgery goal weight
LisaM replied to LisaM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The answer for anybody who reads this topic is no. You don't get to meet the case manager until you hit your goal weight. I'm very close... -
oh no...!!! you didn't......!!!!!

Yes, you need to not take it personally. She's the one with the problem. I really think she is doing this because she is worried. You're going to lose the weight and she's going to be left as the fat friend. I had my psych appointment yesterday and the lady I met with said that she hates it that people label this the "easy way out" because it is NOT true. It's a huge lifestyle change. You can fail on this too. In fact 1/3 do. Just hang in there. If she doesn't come around, she's really not a friend to you. I support my friends even if I don't like the choices they make. -
I had my psych appointment today and I'm officially not crazy, woo hoo! Thank God my split personality, Sybil, didn't show up at the appointment, lol! I have 1.9 lbs to lose before I can get a case manager appointment so I can get my surgery date. I was really hoping to hit my goal weight today, but I didn't. Now I'm going to be obsessed until I lose those last 2 lbs.! Overall, this has been an extremely quick process, so I can't complain. I think Gods slowing me down a little for a reason...

My story... thus far a 19 month journey that's just beginning!

That is amazing! You will do great with WLS because you will already have good habits in place! You have much to be proud of, it's hard to lose weight, especially 90 pounds!! -
I'm so scared to go to Mexico now.
LisaM replied to msleesa's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I really think the media has way over hyped up the problems in Mexico. I've also read that there has been a huge improvement in Tijiuana and that Mexicali is very safe. Don't believe the hype. You could get killed going into the wrong neighborhood near your home. Second, WLS is very safe. There are risks with any surgery, but I wouldn't worry. I was told by my doctor that there is zero mortality rate through my hospital since they opened their bariatric department in 2002 and all they do is sleeve and RNY. If I were you, just don't talk to your mom about it until after you get back. Everything is going to be ok! -

I've only been put under once in my life, but it happens really fast - you'll have an IV and then you'll wake up and be like, what happened? I'll pray for you to overcome the fear. You will be just fine!!

Lookin' good! I like your hair too! Congrats & keep it up!

Hi everyone, I'm Lisa in northern California. I just turned 43 in May, have 6 kids (2 step, 3 bio, 1 adopted). I've been married for 19. Have my first grandbaby due next month! I have a psych appointment this week, then hopefully, I'll be sent on to the case manager so I can get my surgery scheduled. I'm hoping to have it done in early August. I can't wait!

I have a weight watcher's digital scale that is usually pretty accurate. I just make sure it's in the same place on the floor all the time. It is usually a pound higher than the doctors office too.

I need to keep my mouth shut!!!!!!
LisaM replied to MissBliss's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would just be blundt with her and tell her thanks but no thanks. I'd just say I appreciate your concern and I'm really happy for you, but I'm not interested and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't talk about it anymore. Sometimes you just have to be brutally honest with people. If she keeps on talking, I'd say, look it's not all about you and walk away. She sounds like a pain in the a**! -
I have a skinny husband too who has been the same weight his whole life - makes me sick! My husband is probably thinking the same thing, but I know he likes me thin. I married him as a thin woman and stayed that way until we had kids. Everytime I've lost weight in the past, he is very supportive, once the weight is off. But, he has gotten very frustrated with me for trying every diet in the world, including an Optifast diet through Kaiser that I shelled out $4,000 for, only to gain the weight back again. I told him that I've done my research, that it is not the easy way out and I'm not expecting a magic bullet. But, I also told him that he should be happy that I won't be wasting any more money on diets that don't work and food. I agree with a previous poster that a lot of men get insecure that their wives will all of a sudden start getting a lot of attention when they lose weight. They'd rather have them be fat, so they won't risk losing them (like that would even happen!) It is not a selfish decision to want to be healthy and that's the way I'm looking at having this done. I have also explained to my husband that he doesn't understand what it's like to be fat, that he'll never understand the struggle we suffer with food. It's just another addiction. We're using WLS as a tool to help beat the vicious cycle. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Wow, fabulous job! So exciting!! I love to see our foreign friends on the boards too. I lived in Belgium for 5 years as a kid, so I got to visit many countries and make lots of friends. I wish we had facebook or forums like this back then, I wouldn't have lost contact with them!
