    Post opps and Mushy Foods

Thanks for the words. It is a bit challenging at times but in the long run it will be worth it. Just get use to my new reality of very very small portions. I think adjusting to the new life style is difficult as well. I will say this. Before the surgery I was a diet coke-aholic. Now it is so far off my radar. Really surprised I don't miss that a bit.

    Post opps and Mushy Foods

For the first week out of surgery my doc kept me on the pure liquid diet for another week. Then I switched over to the full liquid diet. The first week was not so bad but once I started on the full liquid (creamy stuff) I did noticed I started feeling hunger again. Then shortly after starting full liquids he changed me to the mushy foods and that is where I found my biggest surprise, that of feeling hungry all the freaking time. That is where I am at now in my Journey and really trying to deal with the hunger pains. Here is the situation, I call it the catch 22 situation. My restrictions mushy foods 6 times a day that have to fit in this 2oz cup he gave me. Also nothing to drink 15 min prior and 15 min after eating the mushy stuff. Now that I am a eating I find myself more hungry than when I could only have the broth. It is as if the 3oz don’t even slow me down a bit. But here is where the catch 22 comes into play. I did say to heck with it and doubled my portion to see if that would stop the hunger pains. Well it did and it didn’t Soon after eating it WOW the pain. I karamba!!!! Breathing was hard the chest pains were unbelievable and to further irritate me I still was not full just in freaking pain. Ok that is a mistake I only make once. So there is my catch 22 for now Eat to little no does nothing for me, Eat too much and yikes that is even worse. I gotta figure out how eating just a tad bit will help me feel fuller. I been doing mushy foods for a week now and I put back on 2 lbs. I am suppose to start my full foods this week but to tell you what I am pretty apprehensive about that. I mean two pounds on soft foods and the pain with two much........ Its got me scared a bit. Just dealing with a little disappointed in the past week.

    2 Weeks of Fluid

That is how you loose the pounds is the liquid diet. That was a tough time too. But you do survive and what is two weeks of you life anyway? But a blimp on the radar

    Frustrated

Great thread, Although I am not far down the road from banding I am experiencing a similar thing. Very helpful
  5. I am two + weeks post opp and my doc has escalated me to the mushy food diet. Hurray , sort of. Here is the deal the first week out of surgery (when I was still doing the liquid diet) I was ok; somewhat hungry but really ok. But now that I am on the mushy foods let me tell you I feel hunger just about all the time. It this normal - If so what did other do to combat this? It seems that little 3 oz of mushy stuff does not even slow me down. Signed Hunger in Houston!!!!

    2 Weeks of Fluid

And when the surg is over it is much easier not to want to waver as I could only eat 2 0z of jellio and I was hurtin full.
  7. Funny how we view ourselves aint it?

  8. THANKS. Those were really encouraging words. It's so funny because I ran into a past employee last night in Wal-Mart who has not seen me in about a year, and she did not recognize me. She said "OMG I did not know who you were speaking to me- honey you look really good" I smiled and thanked her for being so kind.

    2 Weeks of Fluid

Wow I don't know about the rest of you but man the two weeks I spent prior to my surgery was no walk in the park the first few days. I just kept telling myself hey this is for the greater good and if I am going to do this I want to give myself every opportunity to succeed. It was rough but I got past it and so if you are struggling remember "The greater good"!!!!!!!! The new you, the long life, the great times you can have with your spouse, the new found energy or whatever your modification is. Time does not stand still and sooner or later surgery day will come.

I feel like my weight lost is stagnate!

i hear you. Funny thing is for the longest time i saw myself as that thin kid in high school who was 185 LBS and playing basketball everyday. I knew I weighed more but mentally that is who I saw and who I thought everyone else saw. Then somewhere along the way I accepted my new reality and started seeing myself as heavy (not fat). But that was not the full truth as I was fat!!!!! I knew things were bad when I hated having my picture taken. When I saw myself in pictures I could hardly believe it was me. So I didn't. Consequently every so often I would go up a shirt size believing I was heavy. Denying Denying and Denying all along the way. It was not until I would stand if front of the mirror with my birthday suit on that I realized how big I had gotten and accepted it. I hated elevators with mirrors on three sides because it made me deal with the reality. Now that I am a week post opp and due to the liquid diet before and after I have dropped 30 pounds and everyone around me says man looking better. But I don't see it, I still see the old me. Granted I got a ways to go so I am still see the belly big time. All this to mean It will take time for you at your new weight to accept it.

    My Reasons

The intent of this blog is to chronicle my journey through the lap band life cycle or should I say "Life Style" Let's start at the beginning and state the reasons I did this. 1. For those of us who have struggled with their weight the answer is simple, I need something to help me loose the weight then KEEP IT OFF. Over the years my love affair with food has simple gotten out of control. If I can't control myself maybe I can re-teach my stomach (and brain) a proper way to eat and feel full. 2. I want to do this is for healthy living going forward. I don't know of many 65 yr men who are alive and obese. 3. I would like to look good when my daughter gets married so she can be proud when I walk her down the aisle. 4. I would like it NOT to me a struggle to tie my shoes or put on socks. What a freaking novelty that would be What I hope to gain though this is control my appetite so I take in less than I use in a day . I have inserted a pic of me when this all started.
  13. Well just got approval from my Insurance and get banded on the 6th by Dr. Storey. This fluids thing aint all that great but hey what is 10 days of my life. Any suggestions? My BMI is in the 30's somewhere... Just sick and tired of being sick and tired.
