  1. When my surgery was rescheduled from April 19th to June 21st (due to anemia) I thought I would absolutely never make it that long but now it is only 4 1/2 weeks away. So ready to get started on the new me. Maybe June is a good time to be sleeved. We can sit out in the sun while we recover and go for walks outside. Can you imagine how great we will look by Christmas/New Years!!!?? We should be seeing such major changes by then. I bet 2012 will be our best year ever! I am expecting good things for all of us June people!

  2. Well Darn it ! I just had Mirena put in last week to try to slow down my bleeding. My periods are so heavy that I have been extremely anemic. So anemic that my April 19th VSG was postponed until June 21st to try to get the anemia under control. Hope I have not made a mistake!

  3. Well my sleeve surgery is rescheduled for June 21st! My GYN said it is okay to wait on the hysterectomy. The uterus does have to come out but it is not going to get worse over the next 6 months and the hysterectomy will actually be easier when I have lost weight. I am staying on the Iron pills to get and keep my RBC's up and as long as they stay up I am good for my June 21st sleeve!

  4. My heart it broken! Went for my pre-surgery testing today. The hospitalist says my red blood cell count is 7 (1/2 what it should be) and my blood sugar is very low too. My April 19th surgery date is canceled. I cried and cried and thought I was going to lose my mind. I finally got thru the hurdle of insurance approval so I thought I was good to go. This is a devastating blow for me. I have worked my whole life around planning this surgery. I have bought all my post-op foods and supplements and planned every last detail about how I was going to make this work. Doctor would not even discuss rescheduling until they figure out what is wrong which is good but I feel like I have been shot in the heart right now. SO disappointed! :(

So not sure if you guys remember me from the post above about a week ago but wanted to give you an update. I went to see my ob/gyn. They did ultrasound and found out for sure why I am so anemic. My Uterus is 5X the size it should be and I have 2 large fibroids. He does not think an IUD or ablasion will help. He said I need a hysterectomy. He said uterus is so big that it will have to be an open procedure instead of lap. That is okay by me EXCEPT IF IT MESSES WITH MY SLEEVE SURGERY! Ob/gyn said to get my Iron level checked next week and if it is up enough he will talk to the bariatric surgery about doing the sleeve and they hysterectomy at the same time. What do you guys think about this??? So confused and a little scared. I want my sleeve guys! Advise needed!

  5. I was scheduled for the 19th but got it moved up to the 14th :D ... Seeing the post about the anemia was a great reminder to pop a couple of my Iron pills, but I really feel sorry for you ASBgirl!!!, but don't worry, anemia is usually an easily diagnosed and fixed thing... mine is from my Ventolin asthma inhalers... BTW: if they give you an Iron supplement, make sure not to take it within 1 hour of consuming anything with caffeine or milk (they both bond with the iron and prevent absorption) Good Luck!!!!

Oh no! I knew not to take the iron with caffeine but I did take it with milk darn it! Good luck to you on the 14th. Keep us posted! :D

  6. I'm scheduled for the 21st. Super excited. I know what you mean about knowing there are others going through this around the same time. We're gonna do GREAT!

Hey guys! I went for my pre-op testing Monday. I am so anemic that they canceled my surgery. I am devastated to so the least. I had everything ready. Work arrange, post op supplies purchased, day care arranged, etc. They will not even talk about rescheduling until they figure out why I am so anemic. Going for further testing next week. I am beyond words disappointed! :(

  7. That's just completely shitty, I'm sorry. Is it your Iron count? I have low Iron all the time because I have very heavy periods and I'm always bleeding. It may not be serious. Maybe if this is also the case with you you could explain this patiently to your doctor.

Iron levels take about a month to bring up if you're religious about taking your pills. I never do because they make me incredibly sick. However *if* the problem is iron anemia and it's because of the problem mentioned above, go to Whole Foods and get a tincture of Shepherds Purse which slows bleeding to a normal level over time so your levels don't get so. Also you can go and get another blood test in a week and call your doc --

It's 130 dollars to do this and they have places all over the country.

Yes it is my iron count. I think it is from heavy menstrual bleeding. I am going to OBGYN to try to get an IUD. I wanted to get one anyway and my sister said she NEVER even has a period at all once she got hers. If I can get the bleeding to slow down or stop plus I am taking my iron pills hopefully I can reschedule sooner than later. I just did not think having low iron was that serious of a thing but I guess it must be.

I am trying so hard to just take actions to get myself better now instead of dwelling on how broken my heart is right now that I was supposed to have surgery in 14 days and now I am not. But taking the emotion out of it is hard for me. I go from being pissed to being sad to being thankful that they caught it before surgery. I don't know just a mix of emotions plus I am so drained and tired anyway. Going to take it easy for a few days and hope the iron pills start kicking in.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes!
