Can anyone tell me how to change (move) my ticker?
-
Hi Everyone! I would love to join the low BMI group! My BMI was 36. I am 5'9" and weighed 246 starting out. I did a week of the South Beach diet as my pre op diet and lost 14lbs! YEAH!!! I couldn't believe I lost that much in a week...I know a lot is water, but still!! I had my surgery on February 14th and I weighed today and I weigh 227!:clap2: I am thrilled to death! I am doing everything by the book and I am starting to get sick of broth, protein shakes and soups already. I keep looking forward to getting to add new foods to my menu! I am looking forward to chatting with you other low BMI bandsters! Oh, by the way, I am a self-pay too...it is sooooo worth it! Melissa

It was the Right Choice for me!!
mommyofthreebs replied to Mommy0105's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi again! I wanted to let you know that I ended up telling my mom. I didn't write her like I thought that I was going to. I told her over the phone. It just came out! :nervous To my surprise, she was very understanding! She thought that she might even consider LBS. Surprised me a little because she had told me before that she thought it was "the easy way out". That was before I explained to her what the band actually does and that it is just a tool to assist me in my weight loss. Unfortunately, my mom is very competitive with me and I think that it scares her that I might be smaller than her soon!! She weighs about 30 lbs less than I do. I do wish that she wasn't that way, but I know that is why she is thinking about doing it too! I would actually love it if she did. We could support each other and motivate each other. We'll see! Thanks again for giving me the courage to tell her! I really appreciate it! Melissa -
Terrible Headache After Being Stuck and PB.
mommyofthreebs replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am about to have LBS and reading these things scare me a little. :omg: Not quite sure what the "golfball" feeling is about. Is it about eating the wrong foods or not chewing good enough....???? -
Has anybody with an autoimmune disease had this surgery?? I have Grave's disease (affects my thyroid). The surgeon did not seem to think that it would be a problem at all, but I am still going to talk to my endocrinologist on Jan. 22nd to see what he thinks about me having this surgery. I have done nothing but gain weight since I was diagnosed and treated with radioactive iodine for Grave's disease. (I had radioactive iodine which killed part of my thyroid and made me hypothyroid instead of hyperthyroid.) I am really wanting a solution to my 80 lb weight gain. :help: Thanks!!

UHC Choice plus-won't cover?
mommyofthreebs replied to Annakris1973's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thanks for the replies. I have talked to 3 different people and looked it up myself and it looks like all WLS are excluded from our plan...Bummer. I am still going to do it though. Losing this weight is my top priority right now...other than my children and husband! Thanks again! Melissa -
Lap-Band and autoimmune diseases
mommyofthreebs replied to mommyofthreebs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all of the replies. I had my appointment with my endocrinologist yesterday. He said that he did not think that there would be any problems because of Grave's disease. He actually thought that it would be a good idea to have it done before I develop Diabetes, high choloesterol, or heart disease. I weigh about 245 right now and I am 5'9". He asked me what my goal weight was and I told him around 165lbs. He told me that I was being optimistic and I should not expect to lose that much. Talk about being bummed and a little angry that he wasn't a little more optimistic himself. What do you all think about him saying that? It was like he was trying to encourage me at first and then trying to discourage me later telling me that I probably won't lose much weight. Oh yeah, then right before I left, he gave me another lab sheet and told me to have my thyroid levels tested again when I lose around 30 lbs since my medications might need to be adjusted at that point. He was all over the place! Maybe he was trying to test me. I don't know...but I came out of that appt. pretty depressed. Let me know what you think. Thanks!! -

It was the Right Choice for me!!

Wow...I couldn't have said it better myself. I feel like we are (or were) living the same life. I am 33 years old, have 3 children, weigh 240, and I feel like I am out of control. I am going to have LB surgery soon, don't have the date yet...am going to the Phsyc. evaluation on Thursday. After that I will make my pre-op appointment. So, I am close!! Yeah!!! Anyway, I do have my husband, mother-in-law and a couple of friends as my support group. I admire you for having the courage to tell your family. I still do not have enough courage to tell my own mom! I find myself wanting to, but talk myself out of it. My mom and I are close, but she once said that she was not for WLS, so I am afraid to tell her. So, after your letter, did your family support your decision?? Soon to be banded! Melissa -
UHC Choice plus-won't cover?
mommyofthreebs replied to Annakris1973's topic in Insurance & Financing
I also have UHC choice plus as does my friend who is having this surgery. She is covered and I am not. My husbands company chose the insurance plan that does not cover this kind of surgery. :tired I was sooooo disappointed... Anyway, I don't want to go to HR and tell everyone that I am having this surgery. So, I guess this means that I am going to be a "self-payer". After reading what so many lapbanders are saying, it seems that it will be well worth the money. Good luck and let me know what you end up doing. Melissa
