  1. I was banded Wednesday July 6th and today I am 4 days post op. I spent 2 nights in the hospital due to elevated white blood cells which went back to normal a little slow. I did also have a hernia repair. I feel like my recovery is a bit slower from everyone else's I've read about. I am exhausted and very weak. I feel like I should be moving more which would help with the lingering gas pain but the little bit I move around wears me out. Yesterday I wanted out of the house and rode out to the lake and sat in a chair for about 2 hours while my son played in the Water, and I couldn't get home fast enough on the way home. I was in crazy pain and felt like I could barely move! I came home and slept the rest of the day and night. Today I woke up feeling a lot better and decided to take my dad to walmart (only walked to toy section to get a gift then to register) then took and my son to a birthday party where I walked in and sat for nearly 2 hours. By the time this was over I came home and slept nearly 5 hours. I probably didn't walk even 30 minutes total for the day and felt completely worn out. On top of being so tired, I am having the weirdest dreams ever! I keep dreaming of sneaking food, being mad at my husband for not letting me eat, and dreams of being in biggest looser temptation rooms and binging. I'm not even hungry at all! I'm doing everything I can to drink all my water and feel water logged. (only got in 40 oz today which is my best yet since surgery) I'm suppose to go back to work Wednesday but can't imagine having enough energy to get through a day at work. I keep reading people who are cleaning house, going walking, and feeling great their first week out. Should I be worried something is wrong??...
  2. That definitely helps. He told me liquids till my post op appt next Thursday and I assumed that since all I got in the hospital are clear liquids that that's what he meant. Definitely opens up some options if protein drinks and soups are an option. I am also feeling pretty weak not getting many nutrients from the clear liquids. Thanks for your help!
  3. I am 4 days post op today and starting to miss some food Need a little more variety! Am I limited to clear liquids or are protein shakes ok? Milk? Creamy soups? Getting tired of chicken and beef broth, but enjoying herbal teas. Any suggestions?
  4. I wasn't warned of the straw issue and today I am 2 days post op. I started using a straw thinking it might help me sip smaller but I have had a very difficult time drinking today and not until I saw this post was I able to put 2 and 2 together. I just described the feeling to my mom as if there is a funnel with syrup going down and there are air bubbles making it difficult for it to slide down like it should. I will be tossing the straws out right away. (maybe the small juice box straws dont suck as much air in.) anyways I am again thankful for the information on this site!
  5. So far up until today I have been very happy about my choice of doctor/surgery center etc, but today it may be because I'm nervous but I'm really irritated... I called the nurse who was suppose to call me and let me know a more exact time and pre surgery instructions. I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow (12 o'clock by the way) and today around 1:30 she finally called me back. She said ok so you have been following the pre surgery instructions right? To which I replied........... Uhm no. I havn't been given any pre survey instructns that's why I was told you would be calling me. So I found out at 1:30 today that I was not suppose to have any solid foods today and I was suppose to drink this magnesium stuff to clean me out. Really would have been nice to know since I ate breakfast and lunch today. Hope this doesn't affect anything tomorrow or cause any complications. I specifically asked the md on Friday if I would ne to eat differently or do anything and he said no. He mentioned they would do a bowel prep before surgery but he didnt say the day before surgery!!! Ugh! Is there anything else I should know or they have forgot to tell me?!?!
  6. Thanks y'all. That makes me feel much better!
  7. I'm having my surgery tomorrow too and you have done MUCH better than me! Give yourself a break, get a good nights rest and let's rock this surgery tomorrow Good luck and God bless!

    Numerology anyone?!

I too have similar number patterns in my life. I met my husband 1/1/11, had our first official date on 1/11/11 and he proposed on 2/1/11 and we got married on 4/1/11. For years I have always looked at the clock at 1:11. Kinda wish my surgery was scheduled for the 11th instead of July 6 but maybe I'll hit the ONEderland on 1/11/11!!! Between meeting my best friend, getting married and getting banded this year, 2011 has definitely been a great year so far!!!!!

    Tricare standard requirement??

Thanks y'all for the info. I definitely want to do what is safest and best for my recovery. I had just heard so many people state they were fine going home and I had not financialy planned for the extra expense since I was told ahead of time I wouldn't have to worry about it. I am so very excited and will probably be thankful for the stay. @Deborah Ann- from what I understand it depends what tricare program you are on.. I have tricare standard and had no problems getting approved at all. Not sure what all they looked at.
  11. I am one week from my surgery date and was talking with my mom about the expected recovery. I had minor surgery about 2 years ago (on my uterus) and found that I exoirenced HORRIBLE PAINFUL constipation from the pain medication I was perscribed. I also am a hospice social worker and know that we put our patients on stool softeners any time a new pain med is percribed.. My concern is this, Constipation is terribly uncomfortable, but it seemed like the meds I took to try to get through it make my stomach cramp something horrible. I can't imagine having that pain on top of stomach surgery. Has anyone heard of this being a problem or have any ideas of solutions I can prepare for ahead of time? I have preop on Friday and will ask my Dr. then, but thought Id check with you guys first. Thank for any advice you have! Kim
  12. So my surgery is July 6th and it seems everyones doctor put them on a pre-surgery diet. Mine did not. He said my insurance doesnt require it so I dont have to do it. I kinda wish he had said "It doesnt matter what insurance says, this is whats good for you so do it" lol Because he didin't it seems I have given myself permission to sneak in foods I know I wont be able to eat after surgery.... kinda weird to realize im as emotionally attached to food as I am. Anyways, so being that I am a week in 2 days till surgery, Im going to choose now to do whats good for me, and start a pre surgery diet... So tell me what YOUR doctor is saying is the right thing to do? Thanks Kim
  13. I have silently been reading post for a while and today I can't help but post and introduce myself.... I decided to start posting today because..... I'm FINALLY SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! July 6th it is! I am so excited and nervous and full of so many emotions I dont know where to start! I had planned surgery July 1 but about a week ago had a glitch in my health insurance and found out that my husband was seperated from the airforce after being on temporary retirement for nearly 5 years! I thought all my planning and excitement and planning was over but he knew how important this was to me and ended up paying for one more quarter of tricare instead of switching to my insurance and after checking with everyone today, the surgery is ON! Things are pushed back a week, (and a few thousand dollars having to pay for insurance out of pocket) but its on the schedule! SOOOO after thinking it was over, I gave a lot of thought about reaching my goals without surgery and decided in my head its do or die. Im committed 100%. Failure is not an option! So I know with surgery, I am mentally prepared for this...... but where are these nervous feelings coming from? Anyone else expirencing butterflys? I look forward to this journey with yall! 8 days and counting..... Kim
  14. Hi! My name is Kim. I am a 30 something female with one adopted son and I am now a newlywed as of April 1. I have thought for some time about getting the Lap Band surgery as I have been overweight since I came out of my mothers womb, but wanted to give it one last ditch effort to "do it on my own." I did that and lost 100 pounds from 320 to 220... divorce and 3 years later Ive gained back about 40 of that and as I get older it sure seems more difficult to do this. The last year I have really considered having the surgery but it wasnt until I heard that Tricare Standard covers the cost, did I ever really think it could be a reality. SO as of this week I have decided to go for it. (a coworker got "banded" about a month ago and she is leaving me in her dust as we have been workout/diet buddies for the last year) So where to start. Ive researched MD's in the area and In/Out of Network docs, etc and now ready for my first seminar and to get goin.. I'll take all the advice/help/warnings/encouragement ya wanna throw out there, so shoot. Kim
