Hi MaryKate, I am 57 years old and can completely relate to your story. I had my sleeve last Tuesday and was questioning my decision up until the moment I was put under. I too sort of "gave up" at about 50 years old - decided that I was tired of always thinking about my weight and dieting/not dieting - but taking it out of the forefront of my thoughts didn't really work. Every holiday, every picture, every opportunity to see old friends was another reminder that I didn't like the way I looked or felt. I continued to gain until at my highest last year, I weighed 257. Only my adult children and my sister know about the surgery. I considered sharing it with a co-worker that went with me to the first WLS seminar but didn't because I was afraid she'd tell others. This is a personal journey for me. We never talk about being overweight so why share this? And yes, of course, I'm scared that I may fail and then what? I'm a private person and don't really want the attention that I know it would cause if everyone at work knew about the surgery. This is Day 10 and I'm feeling a lot better, more energy, almost back to normal.

I've tried both the Strawberry and Chocolate Bariatric Advantage Protein Shakes and really like them. Pre-op I used a blender, added ice and they were delicious! I'm only 3 days post-op so today I tried my first one, not blended. Not as good as that big frothy drink from the blender but I know I wouldn't be able to drink it all now. It took me over an hour to finish the 6 oz version.

I got sleeved yesterday and this is NOT what I expected. I've always been the "tough girl" type. I thought I had a very high pain tolerance, but I guess not! The worst part is the bloating and pain that radiates in my shoulder. Thanks to the advice of everyone on here, I've trying to walk as much as possible and that seems to help. Just tell me it will get better soon!!

Thank you so much for the advice. I've never, ever posted to anything but have been here "lurking" for too long. Everyone here is so helpful and I feel like I know all of you. -
I was sleeved yesterday (July 20th) and I'm still in a lot of pain. When I first woke up, I totally thought I must have been crazy to do this. It's slowly getting better.

Will the Gas-X strips help with the shoulder pain? That's the worst part. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I need it!!
