I have been researching WLS in Mexico and would like some updated information on Dr. Guillermo Alvarez. Everything I've found on this website seems to be a little dated. My second choice would be Dr. Aceves and there seems to a lot of info here on him. Thanks in advance for your help.

The hospital is called both. When you go inside one side is for Oasis patients and the other side is where Dr. Kelly does his surgery. When you go, if someone goes with you, be sure to tell them they can have the cafeteria cookmanything for them. They mostly serve vegan but will special order

I loved Dr. Kelly. I had my surgery in February and I have been so blessed with good results. You will be happy in your choice.

Recently decided to get sleeved!
DonnaG replied to Flip Flop Momma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Kelly did my sleeve in February and I am doing great. He is a very nice man. Trish was wonderful. -
Has anyone done the Body-for-Life 12week challenge since surgery? I'm thinking about it but know I can't do the food part...way too much food per meal. Any ideas? I've hit a month long stall and it's my fault because I haven't begun exercising and it's time to do something

For anyone who went to Tijuana, regardless of surgeon
DonnaG replied to Griselda's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Actually the cafeteria will cook just about anything you want. They made protein shakes, egg sandwich and other foods for my sister. She is not a vegan and they were very accommodating -
For that kind of money you can have the surgery done in the Dallas, TX area

Be careful where you get the HCG. dr. oz did an episode on it and I decided to do some research. The stuff you can get without a prescription only contains a trace of the hormone because it is controlled by the FDA. So don't get ripped off buying it online and make sure you have a doctor monitor the process

Calling card for Mexico to the US
DonnaG replied to mandems mom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you check with the US Embassy before traveling to Juarez. They were warning Americans about crossing the Texas border. I had my surgery in Tijuana and think that is a much safer area. I'm originally from Texas and I wouldn't even consider Juarez right now -
My sister used Dr. Vuong. She was happy with him.

I went to Tijuana but I used Dr Kelly. Dr Kelly does surgery at a hospital where you would spend at least two nights. He does over sew on the suture line. I didn't have sutures that needed to be removed after as he uses surgical glue for the incisions. I would be happy to give you my coordinators name if you want to check out Dr. Kelly. He is a Christian and a very nice man. He was born in the US and served in our military before going to Mexico to practice medicine. Send me a private message and I will send you the name and number for my coordinator. There is also a physician for after care once you get home you can call at anytime with any questions. He is very nice and knowledgable as well.

Sorry for this dumb question... How do I take Tylenol?
DonnaG replied to Smof4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Tylenol Jr melt aways, I just take 2 of them and they melt in my mouth. I've been taking them for years...long before WLS -
Love Dr Kelly!!! I was there Feb 17th and I have had such a good time of it, I don't even feel like I've had surgery. This is great!

I got home from having surgery at florence Hospital in Tijuana, Mexico on Sunday and I have some suggestions for you who are having surgery with Dr. Kelly. The hospital is clean and nice but here are some suggestions, they helped or would have helped me: Ask your driver to stop at walmart and buy yourself a foam mattress pad. The beds are old and very uncomfortable. Trish went out to buy me one but it would be faster to take it with you. Take a robe or pajama bottoms. You will need them to walk the hospital halls. Make sure your room has a recliner or buy a double size foam pad for your guest. Their beds are very hard. If anethesia makes you sick, take your own supply of phenegran or something. Dr. Kelly uses Zofran (it didn't work for me). He also does not use narcotics so if you need something strong you will need to ask him for it. I didn't experience any pain at all. The hospital does have Vonage but some rooms do not have phones. Make sure you ask for a phone so you can call home if that is important to you. You do get some San Diego channels on the television so you don't have to be completely bored to death.

theres a lump under my incision ????
DonnaG replied to sadie_mo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sadie, I have the same thing under one of my incisions. I think its the one that they used to hold the liver out of the way. I think it will go away soon. How are you doing? How are meals going for you? Donna -
The story of an impatient chick in Kansas City

I am defintely interested in a KC support group. I had to self pay for my surgery and went to Mexico so it would be wonderful to have some people locally for support. -
leg cramps on liquid diet
DonnaG replied to big2twig's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad the suggestion helped. I called my patient coordinator with that problem and she suggested it to me and I did some research. Health911.com: Mustard For years coaches have given mustard to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Mustard has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a spoonful or two of mustard. Pickle juice As with mustard coaches have given pickle juice to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Pickle juice has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a few ounces of pickle juice. -
I had the exact same problem. I called my aftercare doctor and he suggested that I take my blood pressure in the morning before my meds and if it was normal not to take my medicine and then to take my blood pressure around 6 pm and follow the same regimen until I could get in to see my PCP. My blood pressure had been perfectly normal and I have not resumed my medicine since 2 days after surgery. I am 10 days post op

leg cramps on liquid diet
DonnaG replied to big2twig's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same problem. If you can stomach, pickle juice is the way to fix it. -
I ended up going to Tijuana, Mexico and having Dr. Kelly do my surgery. Best decision I've ever made. I love the doctor and I couldn't beat the price.

WTF did I do to myself?
DonnaG replied to MustangAli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better. I didn't have any pain but I did heave my guts up because of the anethesia and at one point wonder why? I am a week out and I am so incredibly happy that I did this. Walk...walk...walk. I kept telling everyone to shut up about that but OMG I cannot believe how much it helped pass the gas and relief the discomfort. Hang in there, it is worth it. -
I am 1 week post op. I, too, was an eater even when I wasn't hungry. But now I have to remind myself to eat or drink. I do have the growling stomach and that is how I know I have waited too long between meals. I actually have to set a reminder on my cell to let me know I need to eat. As far as overeating, it causes a very bad pain in your chest it you over eat and if that's not enough you will hurl.

Here in Mexico with Dr. Kelly
DonnaG replied to sadie_mo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a bad reaction to the anethesia that caused 24 hours of dry heaving vomiting. While trying to explain to Dr. Kelly he misunderstood and thought I was saying that the pain meds weren't working and said that they don't use narcotics. The pain med he uses is Toradol. I didn't need pain management. I literally had no pain. My sister was amazed. It never bothered me to get up and down out of the bed and the drain never bothered me. I had more interaction with Sam, Dr. Kelly's son, because Dr. Kelly had to go out of town on a family emergency and Sam removed my drain and took me to my leak test. I never felt him remove the drain, I did feel him snip the stitch. My recovery has been amazing. I am back to work full time. The only problem I've have had is to remember to "eat" and drink. Dr Kelly ROCKS!!!! -
your bed is a twin and the guest bed is a double. Trish bought me a double and she and my sister folded it in half and that made my bed nice and comfy.
Good luck with your surgery
