  1. Anna, I know that you've been to a lot of doctors and been on lots of meds. But, have you been to ongoing counseling with a mental health counselor? Some people need meds (and maybe you do), but for me and a lot of other people, meds didn't work. What I needed was a counselor to help me work though issues that were effecting me and causing my depression. Working through those issues, whatever they are, is hard and takes time. But, it's worth it.

    Diaries of a man *****

No, they are not allowed to post in the man room. If you want them to be able to join the discussion and add things that are informative, then there are plenty of other places to post stuff besides here.

    Losing my MARBLES!

What a great idea! I'm sure it's a great way to stay motivated, and it is rewarding everytime you get to move some marbles.
  5. My stall that hit at 2 weeks out lasted for 10 days, and that seems to be what a lot of others experienced. So hang in there! My stall finally broke last week, and now I'm back to losing about a pound a day.
  6. Haha, this thread reminded me of this story that goes along with this pic: A man came home from work and found his 5 children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around garden, The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and no sign of the dog, walking in the door, he found ...an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, In the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, Breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of Water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel... She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?... ''Yes," was his incredulous reply.. She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.
  7. Congrats! I'm sure you'll do great!

    Disolvable sutures...

My surgeon said it could take mine 2 or 3 weeks to disolve, so I wouldn't worry about it!

    10 day post-op cheating :-(

As long as your stomach is handling it fine, it shouldn't be a problem. Just try to get in plenty of protien, watch your calories, and try to get more water!
  11. If he'll do it and it won't cost a whole lot extra, I would go ahead and have it taken out!
  12. My doctor said that not enough people have problems with them for him to automatically remove them. The only time he removes them is if the patient is already having problems. He said that most people who have problems with it after VSG don't have issues for at least 6-9 months after surgery. Since I'm just a couple of weeks out, that puts it at 2014 when I would probably have issues, so I am planning on reducing my deductible on my insurance starting at the beginning of the year, just in case!
  13. Hang in there! I am 4 weeks out, and just ended a 10 day stall, so I know how discouraging it is. Just keep the big picture in mind: You've probably spent years overwieght, maybe even decades. Not losing for a week will make very little difference in the grand scheme of things. We will probably both be skinny in just a few months, and the sacrifice now is worth it to get there!
  14. I'm 4 weeks out, and have been in a stall for 10 days. I have been so frustrated! Yesterday my frustration culminated in me compltely blowing my diet. I ate a bag of M&Ms, and a piece of cake. I thought I was done, then I came home and somebody had left a whole plate of cupcakes on my counter for me. I knew I couldn't get them all down, so I just ate the frosting off of them. I got up this morning, and guess what? After no losses in 10 days, I lost 3 pounds! Crazy! Now I don't feel quite so guilty (although I know I shouldn't do that again!).

    More gas than chevron!

Haha, I think that's normal. I had that too, and I figured out that one of the kinds of protien shakes I was drinking was a big culprit. My doctor told me to get GasX and take for the first couple of weeks, because it seems to be a problem for everybody.

    Totally Blew It....

Haha, don't do it!! (get the food, or yell at me!)

    RNY to sleeve?

I was just sleeved on May 3rd. I had about 120 pounds to lose (I've already lost 41, at just 4 weeks out!) To me the obvious choice was the sleeve. The surgeon said (and I've seen this other places) that the most recent studies show that people with the sleeve lose JUST AS MUCH wieght as those with RNY. And with the additional complications of RNY, I seen no reason to go there. My surgeon said that if he needed WLS, he would do the sleeve.
  18. I am almost 4 weeks post op, and I had a big BBQ at my house tonight which I do regularly during the summer. I thought I might be miserable, cooking all this food and not being able to eat it. I actually had a great time. I was able to take a few bites of some things I enjoy, but I didn't miss the rest as much as I thought I would. I had about 40 people over, and it was nice to be able socialize without constantly sneaking in trips to the buffet to shove my face full. It gave me a lot of confidence that I can do this!
  19. I can relate! I felt the same way being self pay. I kept thinking that there are so many other things I could use the money for. But, what is my health worth? A lot more than $5000! In the end, what ended up making up my mind was this: I know that I will save a lot of many on food. I'm just 4 weeks post op, and have already noticed a difference. So, within a few years it will have paid for itself. And trust me, no matter the cost you ARE worth it!
  20. I had about 40 people over, and cooked a bunch of food. It was better than expected. I enjoyed the people, without worrying about the food. There were enough people that nobody noticed I had hardly eaten anything, but I did get some compliments on how I was looking good!

IT'S BEEN A YEAR! PICTURE UPDATE:)

    Great job!!
  22. You should probably talk to your surgeon. Sometimes they take out the gallbladder during VSG surgery, so maybe he could just take it out while he's in there. It is really common for people to have gallbladder problems after rapid weight loss, so if you are having problems now it will probably be worse after surgery. Its something that's worth talking to your surgeon about. Good luck!

    Down 130 (!)

Congrats! You look great! I'm just 3 weeks post op, and I started about the same as you, at 300. I hope I look as good as you in a year!
  24. I'm 3 weeks post op. It had been going great, until this week. Over the last 4 days, I have gained 4 pounds! Everyday the scale has gone up by a pound. I'm still only eating about 600-800 calories a day. I don't see how I can gain a pound a day when I'm not even eating that much. Did anybody else experience that?

Great job! I'm 3 weeks out, and down 39. (same as a few days ago....I hit my first stall). I hope that when I'm six weeks out I'll be down almost 60 pounds like you!
