Hair loss almost 6 months out
Roseib replied to HeresKimmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How much biotin do folks take? I think the extra falling out of hair has stopped finally at almost 11 months. Thinking biotin might help stimulate new growth. I have thin hair naturally and hair looks awful but sure don't want to wear a wig in san Antonio in the summer. -
I have severe osteoarthritis in my knees and need knee replacement. Yesterday for the first time in several years I was able to WALK around Wal-Mart and stand in a long line to check out for the first time in several years. That was so great not having to use an electric cart!

Good luck. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Easter Sunday - WHAT WILL YOU WEIGH???
Roseib replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You lost, Coops. That's four pounds gone forever. Yay! I didn't make it to my goal, either. Aiming for 4th of July now. Grazed for a couple of weeks after a close relative died until I realized it was my sleeve way of stuffing my grief. Then had to just be sad for a while. Important to know I can still stuff emotions with sleeve though and to be careful. Hi, I hope I have the correct Emma Louise -- from Ireland I believe? Haven't seen any posts from you for a while and have been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing. Seems like we had about the same amount of weight to lose if I have the right person. Just checking in on you. I'm 10 months out on the 29th April and have lost 135.5 pounds. Doing well hope you are too.

I read the title of the thread wrong. I was wondering why so many people ate sugar free candles. Was this some delicacy I'd never heard of? Du-uh.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR GOAL WEIGHT IS HIGHER THAN WHAT MY BMI SAYS?
Roseib replied to Godsfavoraintfair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor said at support group it would be good to aim for a bmi under 30. That people who have been carrying extra weight for years tend to have sturdier bones and the "right" weight for such a person can be higher than the ideal bmi or ideal actuarial weight. But he did say aim for under bmi 30. -
What if laparoscopic will not work?
Roseib replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weighed 385 with a bmi of 60 and was 62 years old. Surgery went fine. No problems. However there is always a risk when having surgery. Unlikely they would have to open you up though. Btw I also worried about that when I had gall bladder surgery a few years ago and my excellent and very experienced surgeon told me he had done X (a lot!- hundreds- an older guy) GB surgeries and could count on one hand the number of times he had to open someone up since it started being done laproscopically. I think the risk of open surgery is very low but again there is always that risk no mayyer what your bmi or age. -

The violence in Juarez is primarily between two drug cartels competing for turf. One controls drug trafficking near Tijuana and the other farther south than Juarez(don't remember the state). Also young women who have come from the interior to work in maquiladoras have been preyed upon. I would go there for surgery as I think their pickup system is safe. But there is akways risk traveling in any foreign country. Each person needs to decide if they can tolerate that risk.

Ps I mean available as various kinds of premade pasta not just flour
-
I like quinoa. Used to use it for pasta. But haven't tried it since surgery. It's my favorite white flour pasta substitute. I bought it at my local grocery chain. It should definitely be available at whole foods or other store carrying "health food"

At my one week follow up everyone - bypass, lapband and sleeves - were talking about not getting much sleep. it didn't last long for me. Maybe 10 days.

Missed this. Hope all went well! Sending positive thoughts your way for easy postop recovery.

Quick question about drinking
Roseib replied to Ms Lady in NC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor requires his patients to drink 64 oz per day right after surgery due to danger of dehydration. I was sipping constantly but I got it in. This was water only. The other liquids like broth and protein drinks didn't count. So no 38 oz isn't too much and I agree your swelling has probably gone down quickly. Water moves through stomach pretty quickly. -
Sorry I meant morphine works fast in previous message. Stupid cell phone. The first day was the worst but they did a great job of keeping me comfortable.

Yes they are good about pain meds. Pain is a stimulant and debilitating so they make sure people are comfortable. My doctor allowed me to have morphine orally every 30 minutes if needed. I didn't hsve a pump I couldny control like some do. The only pain thst was temporarily bad was getting out of bed (roll out on your side) and whenbthe assistant sqeezed my drain tube. Had to have morphine it hurt so badly but thstbmorogine works fast!

I need favor please (time sensitive)
Roseib replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone in the general Dallas or fort worth area but especially Dallas since Plano up the road might be willing. Need a header to get their attention. I 'm from san Antonio unfortunately for helping you. Would you need to stay with someone overnight or be taken to airport or to hotel?
