  1. Statistically people lose most quickly during the first 6 months or so. Individuals will differ of course. People who need to still lose after that but it tends to slow down more. You're in good shape if you are halfway there after one month.
  2. I didn't get my "taste" back until about 3 months out as I recall. Maybe four or five. As time passes the first several months you'll find yourself getting back to things tasting good and wanting the food. Everyone is a bit different though in terms of how long it takes. Sounds like where I was at about 2 months out. Enjoy it while you can. Gets more appealing (and harder the farther out you get.
  3. Wow. I didn't think that could happen so far out. Wonder how he managed to eat that much.

    I like this GIRL!

I'm glad CNN picked up on it. I like the way the passenger handled the situation.

    worries

Re: our stomachs stretching. Not likely. They take out the stretchy part and leave the part with muscle. If they can stretch it is VERY little. Some say they don't stretch at all. If you overstuff, it will come back up. But still not good to overstuff. Just do what folks above suggested -- do the pouch test and get back on track. Your stomach is still tiny. However, grazing will get around the size restriction.
  6. Hi, Tiffykins and some others are the role models for us, having reached goal and maintaining. I still have a ways to go, but started at 385.5 at age 62 (now 63) and have lost over 140 pounds at 11 months out. I plan to keep going until I reach goal (150, but I'd like to be at 140). Might take 2 years or more, but I will keep at it. Btw, I have been up to now able to workout very little - -just used seated exercise videos b/c of severe osteoarthritis in knees. I stay between 600-800 calories a day although I was told in February at 8 months out I should be taking in 800-1000. The reason I'm lower is the doctor wants us to eat only 3 meals a day and with my restriction, I can't eat enough even this far out from surgery to get in more than 600-700 calories most days. My summer schedule now permits me to do Water aerobics and land exercise at a fitness center and meet with a trainer once a week and I am more active, but that 140 plus pounds came off without vigorous exercise. Water aerobics has been great for my arthritic knees. The hot spa pool after aquatics also helps with the pain. Wish I could have exercised more vigorously early on when I lost more quickly, but I'm happy with my first year loss.
  7. Hi apw. I had a three week stall during or after my 2d month. Very frustrating but I just stuck to the food plan. Was doing and able to do only very light exercise due to severe osteoarthritis in knees. Just keep doing what you can. You will start losing again.

    How to calculate fluid intake?

Ask your doctor. Mine says 64 oz water. May be flavored with crystal light. Nothing else counted. Starting out water more important than protein. Protein shakes are in addition to water- like food to him. Doctors are different on what counts as liquids obviously. Does doctor have a nutritionist you cam ask?

    What did I do???

Sounds like what happens when one eats too much. I did that once and felt like I would faint. No vomiting. Just stayed there for two or three hours. No hiccups but felt AWFUL. Water didn't help. Have been careful since. I think a lot of us do that - once.

Wow bad spelling. Hopefully autocorrect on cell phone! Ogg=off. Lose=loose.

    Clothes

I wear a lot of peasant type skirts and knit tops to work. I get them with elastic waists and can usually buy small and wear for a long time. I've even tightened the waist band with safety pins to increase wearability. I wear the tops until they start falling ogg my shoulders but they look ok until then - just lose.

    My Fav Compliment so far

Coops that is so cute. One of my students who has been out taking classes at a community college for a couple of semesters and hasn't seen me for a while walked in for advising last week and got a shocked/surprised look on his face. "wow! You look great!" the look on his face was really funny. I don't get many comments from students either. I think they think it is impolite to say anything. Seems a number of us on this board are teachers.
  16. What is/was your losing plan: How far out from surgery you are what percentage have you lost? 10-2/3 months out; 59.5% of excess weight lost, counting the 19 pounds from two week pre-op diet, I started at 385.5; now 240. No way I could have lost 50% of my excess weight in 4 months. That must be wonderful. How many times a day are you eating? three What is the amount of normal food (non liquid) you are now able to get down? depending on food 1/2 c. or a little less with dense protein; I expect that will increase more though. The surgeon said at support group last night that "normal" amount for most will be about 1 cup at a 20 minute sitting. What kind of supplements are you taking? Types and Brands Bariatric Advantage Multivitamin 2x/day; BA calcium 3X day; Vitamin D 4,000 units/day; sublingual B12 3X/week; Biotin for hair re-growth How much Protein are you supposed to be getting and how much are you actually getting in daily and what are your sources of protein (brands of shakes etc), 60 minimum usually get more than that; I use food sources now; can't stand protein shakes How much Water you are actually getting down each day 96 oz What is your exercise routine, type of exercise, and how often. up to now seated exercise DVDs (bad arthritis in joints) 4X/week, but starting water aerobics next week How is your energy level? Great
  17. That's great! I was just thinking today myself that I've lost a person and now need to lose an obese German Shepherd. You look fantastic.

10 days post op over the moon

Wow! You are doing great! Sorry you had to be on clear fluids for so long, but it sounds like you adjusted well. It is so motivating for the weight to come off quickly, isn't it? Congratulations!

    Cheese Crisps

shredded parmesan. Can't stand the fat free and I'm more worried about carbs than fat as long as I stay under 30 grams of fat for the day. If I go a little over on fat I don't worry. Carbs I have to keep low or weight loss slows. Good thing about cheese, no?
  20. Wow! What a difference! Look great in those jeans.

    Tough Topic

Yes if writing a letter gives you some peace of mind do it. I am single no children. I did a living will to make sure my practical efficient nurse cousin didn't pull the plug too soon. I made another cousin the "decider". Hehe. But I made it through in great shape age 62 and BMI of 60. Sounds more like fear of the unknown than fear of surgery per se. Crosswind is right about the very low risk of any complication. If I made it through find at my age and weight, you will too. Wish you peace of mind.

    Bulging disks?

Yep my back is better - have 3 hd's - and my end stage arthritic knees are a lot better too. I still am careful but haven't had a bad flare up in months.
  24. Yay! A real milestone! You are doing great.

Sonic Drink Hope on a Hot Day!

Thanks for the reminder. I used to drink those a lot in the summer here in hot San Antonio. I had actually forgotten about them. They really quench the thirst too
