Something Funny!
emily_0192010 replied to june13sleever's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
It's true!! The difference though is that with our sleeves we don't feel like we are killing ourselves! -
Karma's way of kicking my butt? Strand me at the gym Due to a MAJOR freak storm I was stuck at the gym for awhile tonight Got home safe and sound!
-
Good idea! It will probably look funny, but I remember reading somewhere that serious runners will often lace their shoes backwards (so you tie at the toe) so that they can do this. Maybe i'll give it a try! Or at the very least loosen them. Would you loosen them allover or just by the toes (that's the part that goes numb for me). I would worry about loosening them too much because I wouldn't want to lose support.
-
They are lifefitness brand I already alternate backwards and forwards... I heard once that this helps prevent shin splints (not sure if it is true though). Thanks for the advice!
-
Thanks for the advice, the only thing is that I workout at the gym... so I can't switch brands or anything. Where would I get that foam thing? I don't know if I'll try it yet, I'm already very unbalanced on it so I don't know if I want to do anything to make it worse.
-
Oh wow! I cannot wait to try this!!!! I have never been a big bread person, but there are some things that just "work" better on a bun... like tuna or a cheeseburger. I am saving this for sure! I just hope sleevie likes these. Does the texture "sit" like regular bread? If I does i'm in trouble, but it is so worth the try!

Made It Through Surgery Today.
emily_0192010 replied to Pam2011's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Wait, you are still in the hospital? Did everything go okay? I am not surprised to hear that the veggie broth worked best. Broth/bouillon was the BEST for me. Anything slightly warm was good. If you are walking every hour, that is great, but it might be cutting into the time you are drinking. My surgeon said an "ounce every 10 minutes for an hour" before I could go home. I got a bunch of those little pill cups (they are roughly an ounce each) and lined up 6 of them. I would pick one up and sip, sip, sip, till it was gone. Then I would have a couple minutes until the next round. I was so happy to finish that hour! You CAN do it. Sipping, even tiny, tiny amounts at a time is the way to go! Good luck and thanks for the update. I hope you can go home soon! -
It's All About Perspective (& Slow Loss Is A Success)...
emily_0192010 replied to Pookeyism's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I think perspective hits us all at some point. What started my journey was seeing my reflection in a mirror and not recognizing myself. I couldn't believe that I was that big girl. It shocked me. Well the other day, after getting my hair cut I was shocked then too. But it was the opposite, it was a small person! I'm sure I looked incredibly vain for awhile because I couldn't stop looking at the mirror! -
Any Singles Out There.
emily_0192010 replied to newgrandmother's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do!! I want someone who is going to support me 100%! Being a sleever means that i'll never be 100% scott free again. I'll always have to keep an eye on what I eat, etc. I wouldn't want someone to judge me for that, but rather I'd want them to help me out! -
Why Are You Getting Sleeved
emily_0192010 replied to newgrandmother's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am already sleeved, and here were some of my reasons - at 19 I was already pre-diabetic - at 19 I had already done every diet out there - I knew that I wanted children in the future, fat mommas aren't always able to have children - I wanted to take back control of my life - I needed help, the sleeve is a lifelong tool to help me on my lifelong journey As for why NOW - I am out of school due to financial reasons, so I have way too much time on my hands (especially with the job crisis, almost impossible to find anything) and figured "why not take care of me for once" - My insurance covered most of it - why wait?? I didn't want to wait until I had full blown diabetes or other problems. I didn't want to wait until I was in my 30's, 40's, etc. Best decision I EVER made! -

Has Anyone Been Sleeved In Jacksonville, Fl?
emily_0192010 replied to FromBandToSleeve's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
It really is the first step! It was a day I will NEVER forget! I actually went on a whim. I decided that day to look up when the info session was... it was that night. I went and now, a year later i'm 8 months sleeved and 120 lbs down! You'll be on the loser's bench very soon! -
Has Anyone Been Sleeved In Jacksonville, Fl?
emily_0192010 replied to FromBandToSleeve's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I was very happy with Memorial You'll be in the new wing.. everyone has private room and they are HUGE! They were great about visitors. My mom could've stayed all night with me easily (but I have a 6 year old sister and I didn't really need her so I booted her out lol)! Also, if you have a slightly older nurse named Kim... she's the BEST! -
Yes you can I'm 8 months out and I drink "normally" again. I do have some limitations though... I used to be able to easily drink a bottle of Water... I can do maybe 1/4 at a time. If I drink too much I am uncomfortable for a few moments, but then it passes and I can drink again fairly quickly. Sipping is really the best way to drink though, because it allows your body to absorb everything you put into it. When you chug or drink large amounts at one time, your body is more likely to just pass most of what you are drinking on instead of absorbing it.

I Got Approved...! :)

Congratulations! It will be here before you know it! -
I managed to slow down by using one of those tiny shrimp forks... you know the ones with only three prongs and are smaller than a "kids" fork? Also, pre-op I would NOT cut up any of my food, I would do it inbetween bites. It forced me to slow down a little bit. For some people, forcing themselves to sit down at a table and focus on their food helps them slow down. But for me, its the opposite. I have to keep my mind focused on something else. For a few months I would always have something to keep my hands and mind busy while I ate. So I would color (with my 6 year old sister... okay, maybe not always with her, but that was my excuse!) or read, or do some sudoku puzzles or a crossword or a word search. I would have to put my silverware down between bites in order to work on those puzzles. For some people it doesn't work because they slip into mindless eating, but for me it was perfect! Now that I'm 8 months out, I know my limits really well and I am only super cautious when I eat new things. I don't eat super slow anymore. I can finish my meal at the same time that my family does... I just have less food. It's worth a shot! After your surgery, I can pretty much guarantee you'll learn! You'll learn the hard way though... you eat too fast, it comes back up! This CAN be avoided though! I have not had anything "come back up" ever, so being patient and practicing is really important, and it does work!

Weight Gain After Sleeve/gastric Bypass Surgery In 2009
emily_0192010 replied to DPFEFFER's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles! I am only 8 months out, so I can't talk from experience. But I agree with what some other's have said. Back to basics!! Focus on Protein and Water and exercise. And in the meantime, make sure that nothing else is going on. I also think its a really good idea to talk to a counselor or psych to help with any emotional eating. I think this is really important for ANYONE. Mental health IS physical health IMO, because of how strongly it can affect you. If I'm stressed out, I do NOT lose. At all! So it would make sense if something was off, that you would turn to food and gain a bit. You're sleeve is still there. It is just waiting for you to ask for help again! Take care of your sleeve and it will take care of you. Please keep us updated! ((hugs)) p.s. Happy Birthday! (you mentioned it was soon!) -
Completed 30 mins on the treadmill (C25K week 2 finished for the first time ever!)... AND 20 on the elliptical! I've NEVER been able to do more than a couple mins on the elliptical before
-
I havent had a full 10 days of it, but ive been under 10 many times! Ive been low carb for almost a year... low carb being under 30...generally im either under 15 or over 50 (on days i cheat lol). I feel fine on those days. I dont think i could do protein shakes and stay under 10, id have to pretty much just eat meat.

Congrats!!! It wont be long now! Im warming up your spot on the losers bench!

Wow, that seems really, really harsh! Especially for us sleevers because after the first few months are are capable of having healthy pregnancies. It's not advised, but it wouldn't be the end of the world. It would be dangerous with a bypass or duodenal switch person because they have malabsorption. In fact there are quite a few people who have come on these boards pregnant, less than a year after their surgeries. -
Let Me Get This Straight...
emily_0192010 replied to Magsnlucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone, at some point, goes through a stall near the beginning of their weight loss. For most people its around the 3 week mark. Its kinda our body's way of taking a break and dealing with everything we've done with it! It passes And it probably, most likely, almost certainly, will happen again at some point! -

No, I haven't been told this or heard of others.. but it kinda makes sense. We have so much extra estrogen in our bodies during our weight loss... that combined with being healthier all over... I HAVE heard of a few people who have been "surprised" with a pregnancy during their first year after WLS. -
Why Does The Elliptical Kick My Butt?
emily_0192010 replied to minaleigh's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Great job!! I am hoping to finish week 2 tomorrow and start week three wednesday. Are you doing any other cardio on top of your C25K? I haven't yet but I wanted to start with the hour a day thing (or at least, an hour on the days I exercise) so I was thinking of doing some elliptical and some bike if I can. -
Why Does The Elliptical Kick My Butt?
emily_0192010 replied to minaleigh's topic in Fitness & Exercise
My gym (JustFitness in jacksonville) actually has a "cardio cinema"!!! It is a dark room with a giant screen. They project movies onto it. Instead of chairs, its all cardio equipment! I haven't had a chance to use it myself yet, but I can't wait!
